I'm thinking about making a Q&A or orchid chitchat video. In case you have any question you'd like me to answer in such a video concering Phalaenopsis or other orchids, an update on an individual plant, growing habits and so on, just reply to this comment. :)

Bumblebee that would be lovely!;) I found a fertiliser (Amalgerol) that Gigantea absolutely loves! It grew an inch and a half in 6 weeks and I know it is a slow grower otherwise... It's made from minerals from the Dead Sea and some minerals from the Alps. I noticed all my orchids react very well to it so I think that is the fertiliser that I will be using from now on... yuck 🤢 smell (petrol) but it does the job. If you want I can send you some in summer after my wedding... ;) PS: it can only be bought in Romania 🇷🇴...

Hi Anca, that sounds great! My gigantea is working on a new leaf as well. Petrol smell? Uugh. :P I thought the MSU formula might be something "magical" worth trying, but I became tired of reading fertilizer articles and kept using the ones I have here. :D

Such a beautiful display, Bumblebee! They look amazing. The one that took 12 years to bloom again looks very pretty, and those spots are so vibrant, such strong colours! And the Phal. Bronze Maiden looks so fantastic this year, with so many blooms! so pretty! the others look very nice too, and I love Princess Kaiulani's colours. Thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend! 😊🌸
@bumblebeesorchids34087 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Andrea! :) I'm so glad I kept this Phal and it decided to bloom eventually. Phal. Bronze Maiden is really pretty this year. I hope it will manage to grow a leaf next to that spike that came out of the crown. Is your Princess Kaiulani doing well? Have a wonderful Sunday! :)
@orchidsadutchy49407 жыл бұрын
Bumblebee Did the spike grow like a terminal spike? I hope it will continue to grow from the top, otherwise it might make a basal keiki, I think. The blooms count looks great, there are so many blooms and they look so dark and beautiful. I love the patterns on the sepals and lip. My phal Princess Kaiulani is doing fine. I moved it to a place with less light, because I was afraid it was getting too much light. She is still quite white in the middle. My phal. Corning's Violet started to grow her tiny spike again. It had stopped in the winter, but the spike is getting a little longer. I hope it will bloom 😊 Today was a nice Sunday. I'm feeling tired now, but I watered the orchids, repotted some plants, cleaned the house, and buildt bird houses (bird nests made of wood, with a little round entrance hole) with the neighbors from our building. We made 6 nests/houses and we hung them on trees around the building. Less than an hour later there were birds already checking them out, and going in. I'm glad to see so much interest from the birds. I means we buildt them right. 😊 Have a great Sunday evening and a wonderful week!
@bumblebeesorchids34087 жыл бұрын
Yes, unfortunately. But we'll see. The plant was a basal keiki itself, so I think it'll be fine either way. YAY on your Phal. Corning's Violet! My Phal Corning's Bell does the same at the moment. I'm looking forward to blooms on yours! :) It's so fantastic that you and your neighbours made wooden bird houses, and so many of them!

Oh wow, that's one stubborn Phalaenopsis. :) I should stop complaining about one of mine skipping blooming this year. And I also should stop watching orchid videos, because I've just added another one to my wishlist. Your Phals are truly gorgeous! Thank you for sharing them with us.

I'm so glad that it decided to bloom eventually. :) But I absolutely understand if you complain about those that skip blooming. If a plant only blooms once a year and skips a year it makes two years without flowers - ugh. Which one is new on your wish list? :D

Awesome display! I love that you have so many phals, as it is my favourite genus. Your Phal. Sweet Memory (Liodoro is a variety of it) looks amazing. Mine has 2 blooms and 3 buds and it has a new FS just poking out so I'm very happy with this plant, and I'm totally in love with the fragrance (a bit different each day, love that). The thing with a lot of the primary hybrids is that the varieties used impact them A LOT. Some princess kaiulani are deep burgundy, and don't show pink nor yellow. I don't like that one because I don't like those colors, especially together haha but I understand it is a very striking pattern if you like it. I thinking about making a haul and cornu-cervi is in it. I hope I snatch a fragrant one, but one of the things I like more is the appearance of the spikes, looks kind of like a cactus. Sorry for always posting long comments, hope you can show us more beautiful displays :) PS: I could not wait 12 years for a store phal to bloom. Paraphrasing Astrid..."if you don't bloom you are going in the trash" haha maybe not that much but...you know
@bumblebeesorchids34087 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have waited 12 years for any other complex hybrid. But since it was our very first one ... ;) Liodoro, Liodora, Sweet Memory - last time I checked it on the RHS website they were all the same if I'm not mistaken. My tag said Liodoro, that's why I stick with it. But it seems as if only Liodora and Sweet Memory were still synonyms. :/ I know, Princess Kaiulani is a primary hybrid that varies a lot. I wanted to have this particular variety. :) Don't be sorry for posting long comments. In case I don't answer it's not because it was long, but because youtube doesn't send me reliable notifications anymore.
@MissOrchidGirl7 жыл бұрын
haha my pet peeve :)) it's cross (as in genes crossing) not a multiplication ;) so.. a big NO to times :P and yay on the Liodoro, will definitely keep the spikes on ;)
@bumblebeesorchids34087 жыл бұрын
Haha, I knew some people dislike "times", but I didn't know it was a pet peeve of yours. :D Would "by" sound better? Probably not, but "crossed with" is so long and inconvenient. Thanks for stopping by, Danny! :)
@nataliablumke56087 жыл бұрын
Very beautiful display. All of your videos are really nice. You have a great collection. X stands for cross between two species. Example; 1x2 would be cross between 1 and 2 but whatever you say, everybody understand :) Thank you for shearing.
@bumblebeesorchids34087 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, Natalia! :) I know what the X stands for, but I don't know how to READ cross names correctly. For example, should I say "Phalaenopsis schilleriana TIMES mannii" or do I have to say "cross between schilleriana AND mannii", because the term "TIMES" is only used in maths? :D
@nataliablumke56087 жыл бұрын
Bumblebee Yes, cross between schilirianna and mannie would be right :)

@@bumblebeesorchids3408 I’d just like to add to these comments, generally when you read a name of an orchid CROSS you would say….first name “BY” second name…or you can say it the long way ….first name “CROSSED WITH” second name. I’ve notice a few people refer to the cross as TIMES but it’s not quite grammatically correct. At the end of it you can say whatever you are comfortable with. I’m new to this channel, the phalaenopsis caught my eye. A beautiful video with gorgeous phalaenopsis, all of them.

I think it's better to say "crossed with." So for example "stobartiana crossed with bastianii," is more proper. Although I have heard others use "by" as in "stobartiana by bastianii." By the way, the double vowel at the end is suppose to be pronounced as two syllables. In American English, bastianii would be read as bas-ti-an-ee-eye. But I think Europeans have their own rules that extend for their native language and pronounce it as one vowel. There isn't a totally standardized way to pronounce botanical Latin but treating the double i at the end as two syllables comes from another forms of Latin.
@bumblebeesorchids34087 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the explanations! It's difficult to decide whether to stick with the American English ee-eye-ending or switch to the Italian one syllable ee-ending. The terms "times" or "by" are so convenient, because they are short, but "crossed with" seems to be most accurate. Thanks again and happy growing! :)
