This is the second video of my visit of Schwerter Orchideenzucht.

Our local nursery doesn't bother to wrap in summer...just puts them in a plastic tray on off I go in the outside with the wind, rain, etc. In winter, they wrap them with the dry cleaner style plastic, which is just aweful again in the wind and the snow, etc. I don't know how I made it home recently with a tall phrag spike still intact despite all the elements. It's really hard to pick from any of those numbered primary hybrids. Yours was quite lovely. Thanks for sharing your visit to Schwerter.

I narrowed it down to 1,2,6,11,12,15,18,19,22,27. 🙄 lovely primary!!! Great addition to your collection. I have never been to a nursery, or orchid show but will attend the big San Diego one in March. I like 2 nurseries on other side of States, one has so many new primaries/ species phals...alas...cold weather ( not here!) Prevents shipment. 😫 so in a way, good..am taking this time to acquire Other Than Phals , really expanding variety & this is great. 👏 breaking away from compulsion for phals is good thing, and there's the March show.....👌😁 I love your videos, please keep them coming! Must've been hard to watch your new chid being wrapped badly. Now in your good care. Sorry so chatty here! ( lots coffee)

If it's somewhat similar to the orchid show I visited in Dresden I bet you'll be overwhelmed by all the orchids at the big San Diego orchid show in March. Omg! Spikes and roots in danger from careless clerks... my pet peeve too!!! This girl at Home Depot check out said to me, “that’s so pretty! Is it real?”, as she dug her long thumb nail into one of the leaves of the Cattleya I was purchasing. She said, “oh, yeah, that’s real alright.” I just bit my lip, since at that point the damage was done & it was very minor, but still!! I wonder how long I’ll have to look at that half inch long parentheses mark on my beautiful leaf. 🙄. Thanks for a great video. (#3 was my favorite)

aaah haha you and i love the same rounder form with deeper color. i picked no. 2 straight away, while still seeing similarities with nos. 5, 14, 18 in terms of form and coloration but i stopped comparing when you reached no. 20. i thought it is good that these are seed grown so that they contain so much variation as to appeal to many different people. not to mention how amazing nature is.

what a treat thank you so so so much i'm really mesmerized , i loved the luddemanianna x wu ! my favourite primary hybrid was 14r , i love how the top contrasted with the bottom lip area, it seemed more spotty and the background more white! could have been the lighting too :) , this all contrasting with the blotchy bottom sepals and lip ... oh and i am a sucker for phals!!

The lighting wasn't ideal for filming. The background has a creamy tinge, but it's not as yellow/greenish as it appeared on camera. #14 was rich in contrast, indeed. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one adoring Phals. :D

Great video, I enjoyed watching it a lot. I love the hybrid you picked. I would have chosen the one with lots of spots and colour , more like stortiana too! I liked also the ones with twisted petals and stortiana shaped lip, but all the good traits did not go in one hybrid. Thanks again for filming the phals at Schwerter, but don't they going to do any thing about mis labelled orchids? Have you ever talked to anyone in there about it?

Hi Mary, thank you! :) If I remember correctly we have talked briefly about this topic a few years back. They seem to receive many plants from abroad with mistakes on the labels. It bugs me personally, but I guess for such a huge nursery it's just not top priority.

What a beautiful primary hybrid! I have a stuartiana punctatissima from Schwerter and some of the flowers are indeed very similar, personally I would have picked number 7 or 12 :)

I am astounded by the lack of care Schwerter puts into their wrapping / packaging ... my shipments all came with substantial damage & I spent serious €€€ as well as give them the benefit of the doubt 3x ... not a single plant was in adequate condition (I’m German living in Spain) ... I am now even more shocked to see that a ‘pick up’ has similar results while being packed! And attitude 😳... kinda explains it all! I left feedback on their web page on my first order (not direct email so as to test their customer service via webpage and heard nothing at all! I have not complained directly because I’m not that kind of person... but if someone takes the time to leave feedback then the company should acknowledge it) Schwerter are overrated imo and I’m also angry for what I see / hear on this video ! I’m sorry that the joy of a new orchid was somewhat tainted by their lack of care and lack of discretion toward you as a customer! It’s a beautiful cross!! Thank you for sharing .... honestly... I thought I was the ‘only one’ annoyed with Schwerter ... still happy growing 🤩👍🏼

I appreciate their huge choice of beautiful plants, the fact that I've never found any bug on them and a few helpful and interesting greenhouse chitchats with the owners. I'm frustrated by a couple of things like mislabeled plants and the careless sales assistant and I'm very sorry to hear you've had negative experiences with shipped plants. I don't know why they haven't reacted to your feedback on their webpage. Maybe try emailing them in case they haven't read it and get another chance to atone for the mishaps? I've emailed them a couple of times and they answered fast and reliably. Overall I've been quite happy with their customer service. I hope your plants will recover. Happy growing to you as well! :)

I didnt have issues with shipped plants from them personally, I live in South Spain. But it is true I stopped getting from them because I friend hand picks the plants for me and then he sends them. To me it is indeed overrated, and the amount of mislabeled plants is outstanding, but they get a lot of stuff and many times they have good plants. And yeah, as Bumble pointed out other nurseries I know in Germany can lead you to having a zoo on a new plant you get.

Ohhhh where do you live? (If you dont mind telling me) Personally I love Elsner, because everything I got from her is super legit, never had a mislabeled plant or anything bad from her and always got plants packed really well, even with spikes. She often has rarer stuff that Im into so theres that as well. The owner does all the work mostly alone which is praiseworthy in my opinion. I never ordered from that nursery but I am glad that they work well for you :) As I said in another comment I have a friend that lives in the Ruhr area, so now I have a sort of personal shopper so I can get plants from several nurseries into one parcel. Im so spoiled!

Very nice video. I am surprised about the attitude of the person packing the orchids. I recently ordered a flowering phal liodora from schwerter and thankfully it came in very good condition. I am sure your plants will do great in your care. Fingers crossed...

Wow! Impressive how much variation of shapes and colours between each individual plant of phalaenopsis virides x stuartiana punctatissima! It's difficult to choose, but I think I like best number 27. I liked also 2, 5, 11, 14, 17 and 18. Others were nice too. Very hard to choose! I like the spots! I also like the p. equestris alba x lindenii, it's so pretty and delicate! I like a lot the plant you bought, it's one of those I liked best. Looks very pretty under the light at your home. The colour is softer than at the nursery's light. Such a pity so many roots were damaged! She wasn't careful enough. But the plant will be ok. Nevertheless, it's such a pity because they were good looking roots. Do the flowers have a fragrance? beautiful orchid! :) Thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend!

Hi BB. I liked them all and it would have taken me ages to make my selection. I think I liked the wavy edged ones best though. Your pick is gorgeous. I just wish we could a see little of the variety you have in Europe. In Australia, we are sadly lacking and it’s so expensive to order from abroad, the prices can be prohibitive, not to mention the time they spend in quarantine, up to 3 months or so.

nice plant you got! I purchased a stuartiana x viridis as well when i visited Schwerte. After a few days at home the flowers developed an amazing scent, they smell a bit like roses! Is yours scented as well? I thought that neither Phal. stuartiana nor phal. viridis have a noticeable scent, therefore i was pretty surprised by that!

I like the plant you took, definetly would take one favouring stuartiana for this cross :) If you dont live too far from Schwerter, I would simply tell the clerk to not wrap the orchid. Maybe that works? even if its not true say you live nearby and you prefer not to waste wrapping etc. Personally they always packed the plants well for me, but I guess I was lucky with the one packing my plants? At least during my visit in September. Im so sorry for your plant and I would be VERY angry. To be honest sometimes I dont get German people and their ego, I know this is not everyone, but its not the first case I know when you tell a clerk something being nice and they get all defensive and angry :( Like to see what you like etc on your videos. And yes many of those plants you showed are mislabeled for sure, truly a shame!

I like the larger blooms with the subtle spots on the P.Virides x Stuartiana punctatissima, but Phalaenopsis are not really my favorite, I have a few and that is plenty! you picked a pretty one, you'r paying for it, it's your orchid now, don't brake my roots or spikes, what if someone came into your home and was picking up your orchids aggressively, braking off your roots and spikes you have worked to achieve, would you not say something to them? even if they were in a bad mood or gruff enough to say I have been doing this for 25 years? I'm the paying customer, don't you want me leaving happy? I'm sorry, I had to rant too! I purchased two orchids from a well known nursery here in The States, two small Vandas! both had every root broke from them , and one every root and every leaf broke! it was ridiculous, one has passed away the other, I 'm working so hard to keep it alive, it will be years before it looks ok, I was going to do a unboxing but decided not to! but you should not have to pay over $50. bucks to get plants in this condition! maybe that Is what needs to be done ! shame them, what you are sending people might just get put out over the internet for the world to see how you treat your customers. and do others want to purchase from you at the risk of getting broken plants! sorry! I'll stop ranting now,

The Cattleya I bought there whose roots were bent is still recovering. :/ I'm very sorry to hear you've received two damaged Vandas from an US nursery, what a pity! This happened over the summer, the V.Coerulescens has passed away, V.Testacea has only 2 broken leaves on each side and lots of broken roots but she has a green new leaf emerging, that is my only hope, if she survives maybe she will look ok in about 2 years! It is a Family business and I think they should be told this is how they are sending their plants out so they can make changes so it does not happen!

My god! Next time pack your plant yourself! No matter that smb is angry or has 25 year experiens in damaging plants. Just dont let them ruin your plants! Show that you are angry, you have all the right to feel it - they are spoiling your puchase! If you are buying a fragile plate, and because of smbs hands it breaks they have to change it, with a plant is the same, all the roots and stems are important! Be firm, do not just sadly watch what they are doing, act stubbonly! Say that you have 26 year experiense but grabe your plant and keep it safe! You have to protect it! Since you've chosen it is your responsibility to keep it ok.

You Pay more per spike? And they give u the plant like that... My god, i would be mad if i had to Pay 30 euros for it.. And they call themself professionals.... I bet they did it so, they would make u go back to buy a New one for 10 euros extra LOL.. Here in denmark u buy via plant size or age and how rare it is.. Not spikes LOL.. All Them Flowers could blast before u could get home.
