Pretty easy to do with some help a couple good buddies. Using OER Sealant Tape Kit for the second gen F-Body. Front windshield install and rear glass too. Using the OER sealant tape that is similar to the butyl tape used by the factory. No mess! Urethane sealant is a modern and popular way to install your windshield but it requires dams and blocks to set the proper height. The goo can squish inside your car and mess up your trim. This tape just sticks on the glass and then you line up the windshield and set it in. Push on the window to seat it and move on to your trim. I did it, so can you! Let me know if you have any questions. Drop me a comment and please hit the like button. Thanks!

Thanks buddy, i feel the same way. I just love that it has a really different tone in different lighting conditions. Ive been driving it and its kinda dangerous in the parking lot... lol... meaning that as im walking away i cant stop looking back at it. Bout got hit the other day> Probably end up tripping and falling one of these days.

Nice work. I contemplated doing this, but I decided to have a pro do this with the urethane today. Same glass you have, love it. One pisser was my antenna was missing the coax connector, so I now have to see if I can fix that :(

wow Nath, you have made the install look so easy - same here - i have removed many glasses - installed none - lols - what's the go between the metal & plastic trim clips ? did i see you use plastic ones in the rear ?
@HeavyPedalGarage
@HeavyPedalGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Buddy. so i used the metal clips on the front and back. they were two different kits, so for some reason they were different colors. I liked the metal clips since installing the trim can be kinda tough. I would be afraid of breaking the plastic ones.

Great video. Thanks. For your rear glass, does your headliner wrap around the pinch weld lip? Were there any concerns with that and the OER tape?
@HeavyPedalGarage
@HeavyPedalGarage Жыл бұрын
I had no issues with the headliner. It tucked up under the interior trim, no problem. OER tape and glass didnt touch the liner at all. This is one of the reasons I went with the tape. It doesn’t squish into the car like a urethane sealant from a tube would. With the tube stuff, dams and spacers need installed to try and keep the goo out of the interior and also to set the proper depth of the glass. The tape seemed much simpler for a DIY.

Good video. I noted that the only setting blocks you used were at the two bottom locations to set the gap at the top of the window. Didn't you use any setting blocks around the window to ensure that you did not compress the butyl too much? You don't want the glass sunk too far down or else your trim will have a gap to the glass. If you didn't use the setting blocks, how did your trim to glass gap turn out?
@HeavyPedalGarage
@HeavyPedalGarage 8 ай бұрын
I only used the two at the bottom> From what ive read, the butyl like rope will squish just right. My trim turned out good. I think you only need the blocks to set the depth if you are using a urethane sealant from a caulking gun.

I'm working on a 1975 Firebird Formula just like yours and I'm ready to install the windsheild and back glass. Two questions. 1. Which type clips for your front and back glass did you use? The plastic or metal. 2. Wher do you get the OER sealant tape for the glass?
@HeavyPedalGarage
@HeavyPedalGarage Жыл бұрын
I used the metal clips. Search google for “oer windshield back glass sealer K4122”. Amazon summit JEGS classic industries and other places cary it.

Hello in wondering about something I’m pulling my rear glass to reseal it I also think it was sitting to low and my mouldings were not sitting flush with the glass anyway did you put that filler panel that covers the torque rods for the deck lid on before you sealed the glass it looks like it’s on just wondering if it matters thanks mike
@HeavyPedalGarage
@HeavyPedalGarage Жыл бұрын
I did have the filler panel installed before i did the glass. i think it would be best to do it this way, as some of the glass may overlap the lip of the panel. Also, the screw locations that hold down the filler panel could be difficult to access with the glass in. If you shoot me an email to heavypedalgarage@gmail.com ill send you a picture of where the glass meets the filler panel so you can see how tight a fit it is. thanks, that's a good question.

Isn't pinchweld primer needed before installing the windshield? It's made especially for buytl tape
@HeavyPedalGarage
@HeavyPedalGarage 9 ай бұрын
i cleaned the pinchweld with solvent. I think the legit primer is for the urethane type sealant that comes in a tube. Don't take my word for it though. if you are doing this process, i recommend following the manufacturers recommendations for whatever system you are using.
