Hi, @delvinrodriguez. Some spiffing tunes today ( in my Delvin voice)🙂 but, “The Champion,” sounds like someone gearing up for a fight😂Who decides where the director of music goes? I usually see this one in the next to last rank. He’s up closer today

@@charlottecunningham2141 Hello Charlotte! Hahaha, Yes Indeed! Some Spiffing tunes! I originally was going to say something along those lines haha, but I don't want to seem repetitive. 'The Champion' does sound like that, very powerful march indeed. Usually the location of the Director of Music (DOM) or in today's case the Bandmasters (BM), depends on what spaces are open. Traditionally we see them march In the Percussion section or just behind. But, I believe last year or the year before that, the DOM of this Band started to march in the second Rank from the Front. It seems it stuck. In the early 1900s the DOMs and or BMs would actually march on the outside of the Bands, near the Percussion section. But, this was later changed and they started to march within the Bands, over the years the tradition was to have the BMs or DOMs in the last few ranks behind the Percussionists. But, it really depends on what spaces are open on the day. If there's a full Woodwind section, it becomes difficult to have an open space in the rear, so the DOM or BM gets bumped up the ranks. I hope this helps and makes sense! If it doesn't please don't hesitate to ask again! Stay safe and Take care Charlotte!

I agree with you Delvin, it’s great to see ASDM Fitzgerald, despite some disparaging remarks made by some. I think he’s in fine form here. He exudes a calm authority as he marches in his stately way and looks quite splendid 👍

You have some really good recording equipment to get this clarity of visual and audio! There are some super marches here, but, for me, the standout one is “Grandioso” at 3:36 , it’s positively glorious! Love it🥰 Thank you for recording and sharing this video👍

What a pity the Drum Major can't march to the beat of the music

He never could ... it's even worse when he marches alongside 3 or 4 other Drum Majors in Massed Bands gigs. Then, you can see he's REALLY slow with his arm movements compared to the other Drum Majors. In fact, a perfect example is here when he's marching and you can also see the Bandmaster marching within the band. His arm is at least half a second slower that the Bandmaster's arm. Excellent camera-work / video-work from Lenny Windsor ... thanks for the superb "no-shake" videos. May be wrong but I think the Welsh Guards Officer you see marching TOWARDS Windsor Castle is a different one to the Officer marching back to barracks. The first one marches elegantly and with a Military style & purpose ... The second one must have been a farmer in a previous life ?

@@supernutkin5122 Yeah, I'd noticed it before. As an ex-serviceman you really pick these sort of things up. I'm surprised the D.Is dont pick him up and sort it out

With all due respect for the service of DM Fitzgerald, I have the feeling it even got a bit worse over the recent months. While I do like his general style, hand signal and mace drill, him being out of step by about a quarter of a beat has been bothering me for quite some time now ...
@RodD-p1i2 ай бұрын
Well said Supernutkin. I think the real issue for me is his somewhat wooden style accentuated by his habit of bringing his unoccupied arm down to the vertical as opposed to the more natural style of a movement of the arm to the rear prior to the it being swung forwards under a natural momentum. If you seek out a recent post by MrBaton74 called 'There and Back, the non synchronisation with the other DM's is plainly obvious and has been commented upon by others viewing that particular post.
