Wow, I mainly came to learn a bit on how to make tutorials. Incredible how you manage to explain something so complex in such an easy and understandable way. It's really a skill that you cannot copy. Big props!!!

Hadn't heard the "back elbow on the boom" tip before - seems like a great one for me to try, who tends to lose it with too much back arm pressure half way through still! You're still keeping hidden Shaka Tip gems from me like that one, after all these years (and f' bombs 😅)!?!

Haha, always new key adjustments that can be made and found! On towards less F' bombs and more landed Shaka's I hope after that key tip 🤟🤟🤟

Great information about the wave jumps,the importance of sail size/area and your body movements and location and the sail draws to boost the jumping actions.

Very well explained. I'll have to nail the flaka first though. The shaka is a beautiful move to see though.

@@dietervandereyken9271 haha that's the hardest part - a willing camera person! I'm also going to try your backloop suggestions. I already commented that I suddenly saw I was doing something very wrong. Thanks for these videos, they are helpful. Short, but sweet. No one has time for 20 minutes of rambling. Have an awesome day.

Thanks for the tips! I struggle with them when the chop is very close together, we don't get better conditions here so I'm slowly figuring it out.

If you can do the Flaka the second part of the rotation is the easy part. For me the hardest part is to rotate fast enough and over the maybe first 90 degree. Most important of your tips for me are: - sail in the back / body in the front - don't carve too much (my biggest Problem) - and of course don't push with the backhand to early - splitting in part 1 and 2 of the move makes absolutly sens for me Hope there is soon wind in the south of germany and I manage to put the puzzle right together now.

No Joke, watched this in the morning only with half eyes on the video, remembered today with 4,0 Sail and got the first Shaka in my life after minimum 5 Years attempts and only shove it into sail 360 results. But also only 1 positiv attempt today after 3,5 hours and 2-5 attempts on every round. hips and backhand and upper body in front are my problems i think. Thanks for this brilliant explanations!

your videos and tips help me so much!! would you consider doing one only on the shove it? seems like you need to know how to do a proper shove it before moving on to shakas or is it not necessary?

Best shaka tips, dieter. One question: I always struggle to get an agresive carving, might it be I have too big straps, or is it a bad technique? Thanks!
@dietervandereyken9271
@dietervandereyken9271 8 ай бұрын
I don't think it will be the straps. The moment you carve try to really get your ass low like you would go sit down while also keeping pressure on your base plate by hanging down onto your boom. Also very important is that your weight is enough forward over your front footstrap. If you have any video's please let me know since we can plan in a debrief if you like.

Great video! So many things here I haven't fully appreciated. Question: Is there a point in step 2 where you pull down into the mast base with the front hand, so as to initiate some mast base steering to further push the nose around, or is it mainly wind pressure that does it?
@dietervandereyken9271
@dietervandereyken9271 Жыл бұрын
Hello Derek, you mean during the carve part of the 1 - 2 concept? yes as you are initiating the carve you are also aiming to have mast pressure to kind of "load up" the board for a better pop. This is also why you move the sail back first in step 1 to allow you to do this through your front arm while initiating the carve. It's very valid point! Always hard to mention everything in a 5 min clip, so appreciate pointers like this as well for everyone to learn out when reading them!
@derekshuman5942
@derekshuman5942 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dieter, I hadn't appreciated this aspect of the pop. I was thinking of doing this when the sail is fully horizontal, to finish the rotation before landing. I watch this video: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6G4kqZ7dpx_ZqM&pp=ygUyZnJlZXN0eWxlIHdpbmRzdXJmIHN5bmNocm9uaXplZCBzaGFrYSB5ZW50ZWwgYW1hZG8%3D at around 0:50 and try to see what the sailor on the left is doing to get more rotation. It looks like he is pulling down hard with the front hand to drive the nose down. But maybe something else is going on, more kick with back leg, perhaps?
