I decided to do some investigation and the above video is the result - spoiler the important part to a pitch mechanic is the same.

I've been watching baseball for many, many years, and this is something that still puzzles me. What makes a pitcher decide to pitch out of the windup versus the stretch? I'm not expert enough to tell whether it makes a difference on the type of pitch delivered. It doesn't seem like the pitch is any different, but I've never stood in a MLB batter's box. I've heard that you don't want to use the windup when batters are on base for obvious reasons, but when no runners are on, what advantage does the windup have? The ball doesn't appear to be thrown harder.

i think pitching from the stretch takes a bit more effort (ie energy) because you have less momentum. It could also just be a comfort thing, but you are right that there is rarely a speed advantage from the windup.

Pitching from the stretch is super uncomfortable and difficult to do. It’s like a power clean vs a hang clean

@@krpowerlifting3380 @MHJ510 Pitching from the stretch is not uncomfortable. It reduces the time of delivery, which prevents runners from stealing, and from the stretch it is easier to pick them off. Relief pitchers that come in on short rest may pitch from the stretch because it requires less energy, allowing them to pitch better and longer (because they are on short rest, and likely can't pitch as much and normal). Either that or they find it more comfortable in the current situation.

@Travis Perry ... Kind of have to be happy and relieved that Kershaw finally got his ring even if you’re not a Dodgers fan. I had a sneaky suspicion that the wind up and stretch position is practically the same after a certain point. And this video confirms it.

Thanks. Lining things up properly wasn’t as difficult or time consuming as finding footage showing the pitcher starting from the full windup motion-televised baseball games constantly switches camera angles. On another note, still love the sport of baseball but extremely difficult being a lifelong Oakland Athletics fan, where the organization continues to trade away their star players in return for prospects. I think this is the year where I may simply stop caring where the A’s finish ever again. I don’t even know what their current record is but they’re probably last in all of baseball.

Not quite sure. I used LumaFusion (ipad app) to mix the music, and video together. If I recall correctly, the audio is basically from the baseball broadcast plus Sappheirosmusic ‘Miracle’ overlayed on top.
