Agree with all the comments about how you captured the wind, and your idea of directional waves does make for a more dynamic composition. Man, you need to wear some wellies like the other extreme plein air painter, Roos Schuring. She has some amazing really gray days at the beach works, and comes up with great a painting as you did here.

You see things I miss at first like the wet sand. It makes me want to look closer. You captured the wind and motion well. It was nice to see the flowers blooming. I’m in below zero weather with a foot of snow and am over it. Thanks for sharing! Peace and love...Suz What 🌻🌼🌻🌼

It's taken years for me to really see! I'm probably still overlooking things. I'm so ready for spring and more sunny days.

What a great exercise in how to pull the art of yourself. I can see how it might not be the most inspiring of settings, (although I think anywhere on the Pacific coast is beautiful), compared to some of the other places you've taken us, but you've created something that makes me want to go there. I especially like the way the white water in the foreground shows even some violet (whether you used any or not, I see it in there) and works in great compliment to the greens and blue/greens of the water. SO, windy, cold and desolate! A triple threat and still you came away with another gem! Nice Michael.
@chamberlainpaintings3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matthew! You're right about the whitewater having violet. I tinted with dioxazine purple, ultramarine, and phthalo blue in different areas to make sure there was variety. Glad you like it!

I love the angles! If you ever want to make a beach painting more interesting just throw in one of those 100 ft waves they have in Portugal! (my advice is free btw) lol

Hey Mike looks like you're walking over the sand dunes in wellfleet first part of video! You caught the onshore wave flow especially in foreground whitewater with brush strokes also gives the wind feeling.....awesome love the affect !

Finding colour where there isn't is your thing lol...well done. The beach was pretty much like that when I arrived this morning, but not too windy, sun came up at last and I was able to enjoy some workout facing the sun...and I actually get a typical winter sunburn.

Yes, I do like to push the color! The sun is supposed to be out today, so maybe I'll get a winter sunburn too. 😊👍

Nice. I like how you’ve figured out how to use the directional brushstrokes in waves so well. By the way, don’t know if you’ve read “Barbarian Days - A Surfing Life” by William Finnegan but he surfed Ocean Beach a lot so there’s at least a whole chapter about it.

@chamberlainpaintings3 жыл бұрын
Oh good! The easel is an Anderson Easel from takeiteasel.com . I love it! Very stable. It's the way to go if you paint large plein air paintings. 16x20" and larger for example.

Love watching your videos! Do you ever sell a painting off the easel on location? If so do you give it to them on location or take it home to dry etc?

I've only sold a few while plein air painting.I email them an image of the finished painting and if they want it I deliver/ship it after it dries. Glad you're enjoying my videos!
