That's not a raffle, Tom, that's a tender process. A raffle is where a large number of people pay a small amount and one of them gets lucky. A tender is where the richest person puts the highest "sealed bid" forward and you choose it and everyone else dips out. It'll be interesting to see what you get for it, but I bet you could have got more by asking for 5 bucks from each of us than say 150usd from one person for that thing, as beautiful as it is. Good luck either way, your work is awesome :-)

I do agree with this, I wish it was a regular raffle. I could have easily dropped $10-20 on tickets, but as a hack/hobby machinist, I can't justify more than that, even though this is a very cool item. Just 1% of the subscribers, at $5 a ticket, would have netted about $7K. Best of luck, hope you get a great offer, and I am looking forward to seeing you in the new shop. I moved my offices (engineering design and electronic assembly business) once. I retired instead of doing it again! LOL

I believe it's called a "Silent Auction", to use the proper terminology. Either way, Y'all get what he meant.. I think its a novel tool, however. SO, I am going to submit an email bid!!

If a large group of people want a raffle, have someone be the raffle organizer, collect the funds, and then submit the raffled total as a tender offer? if the tender offer fails, refund the raffles...

@@mikekellam365 It's properly called a "sealed bid first-price auction" among economists. First price because the highest bidder pays his own bid. In a second-price auction the highest bidder pays the bid of the next highest bidder.

I know this is all above board and honest but I bid for a number of tenders a couple of years back when I went sub contracting for the firm I worked for and the "sealed" bids were anything but to the point I was accused of undercutting the other bidders before the bidding was even finalised..........I worked on very low margins as opposed to those that hadn't a clue and just racked the price up to get the job and hope to make pots of money. I've used a 123 block with a mag base and dial indicator for a squareness test tool......not so sexy but it's available and gets the same result.

I assume your reasoning for going with an auction over a raffle was to make sure that whoever gets it really will use it, however a raffle would have brought in more $$$.

Nice and interesting offer but only for one item as I get it. That makes it more of a "collectable", knowing the background of Windy Hills and You, not necessary a tool being used much. Any thinking of doing like Randy Richards, selling scribers, dove tail cutters and more at a commercial basis? Costly but affordable...

I think winner should pay the second highest bid +5%,(or his bid whatever is lower) that make buyers are more likely bid higher because they know if second place bid 1/3 theirs price they don't overprice. if highest bid is taken people bid that high how they think is worth. In second highest price they bidding how much I can pay to get this and often this is higher. I like this look and i can pay $1000 but this is worth 100$. when will be bid 1000$ and when $150?

fredio54 just said it well. You are doing a sealed bid auction. I hope you make a mint but I'll bet you would have done MUCH better with a real raffle. The video has had almost 8K views in a day. Many would risk $5 in a raffle. I can't imagine the high bid will be anything like that amount. Please let us know. PLUS - you have to do all the work of reviewing each and every emailed bid. PITA. How would a real raffle work? You give us a PayPal account. Each participant gifts you $5 (or whatever). You print each individual PP receipt (sort of a PITA) and put them in a container. At a specified time, you draw a receipt. You get tens of thousands of dollars and some lucky person gets a real OX Tool. There may be easier ways to run a raffle online. The more tech savvy will (or have) define(d). Do yourself a favor and RAFFLE off a new cool OX Tool.

Please correct me: The indicator measures the movement of the blade at some upper point at its end. If you press someting againt the blade, that is (ie) half the height of the rotating point to the measuring point oft he indicator, this would show roundabout (because the rotating point can not be at the lowest point) double the distance of the "out of sqareness". So there is no direct reading. imho.

If one were clever, you could do the trigonometry and print a new scale for the dial indicator that showed degrees, +/-, out of square.

Well if the indicator happens to be 12" from the table then it would direct indicate the taper per foot regardless of the height of the object.

@@turningpoint6643 Yeah I dont think so. You better double check that. Air freight is not only backing up, many many facilities in many countries have shut down completely. I cant post links to articles but if you do some commie googling you will find your leftist answers on the air freight issues.

Wow dude, super disappointed. You've been using the term "raffle" all this time, which is exciting because that means any one of us could win it. But what you're actually doing is a sealed bid auction. So some bloke out there with more money than sense will win it, and for most of us there's no point even entering, and we certainly would not have bothered clicking on this video if we knew that was what this was. So you've taken advantage of your followers and effectively broken a promise (since you said with enough positive comments you would "raffle" it off). Whether you'll make more or less this way I can't speculate on, you might have a super wealthy fan who wants to make a big gift out of it or craves the attention they might get from winning, who knows. But you definitely stabbed in the back a lot of hopeful "regular Joe" viewers of yours. Hope it ends up being worth it to you.
