My problem with wine is the availability. Sure you can buy at the grocery store but they are never stored or transported properly lending to some really bad flavors and certainly not what the winery intends it to taste like. I will be making a trip to the local winery/vineyard shortly and hope they store the wine in ideal conditions.
@wine-living2 жыл бұрын
Good idea. Depending on where you live you can also order direct from the winery or a reputable store that you know keeps their wines properly.

I'm a little new to wine storage, but I just began a wine subscription service (Firstleaf) and I'm not sure what the best way to store 6-8 bottles of red wine is. I realize that at some point I will likely get a small wine cooler to maintain serving temperature, but because I'm drinking wine in the $15 range, I don't know if that makes a big difference. Also, since I only drink one glass each evening, it takes me three nights to finish a bottle and when I recork it or put a stopper in, I leave it in the fridge upright for 1-2 days. If I get a cooler, do they make stoppers that can completely seal the bottle so that I can confidently lay the bottle on its side after opening it, or is that 1-2 days period not long enough to justify? I have lots of questions, as you can see...
@wine-living3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking this video out and asking questions, I appreciate it! If you intend on drinking the wines over the next few days, just stopper them up and put them in the fridge or cellar where it's cooler, and you should get about 2 more days for whites and 3 days for reds. I just started using a product called "repour," they're stoppers with a carbon filter in them that absorbs the oxygen in an opened bottle. They're supposed to keep a bottle of wine for a month. bit.ly/2O5E4Xc They cost about $10 for four stoppers. I plan to do a video and report my findings on them when I'm done!

But how long ? Maximum how many days I can store my homemade wine ? Should I add any preservatives in order to keep the wine longer ?
@arnoldchadd2 жыл бұрын
I'm looking at purchasing a wine cellar cooler and I'm conflicted in choosing single zone vs. multi. I have mostly red wine in my collection and do not require the different temperatures for storage and certainly don't want to limit my ability to store reds. Do you have a rule of thumb that you use related to storing reds in a dual zone unit? The reason I'm considering the dual zone unit is due to pricing being ~1/2 of a nicer single zone unit.

@lancefranklin94254 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc, thanks for the information! Any advice on fridges/cabinets for the purposes of ageing wines (10+ years)?
@wine-living4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lance, basically, any of the suggestions here works for long-term. Just keep it dark, stable and consistently cool. If you have the budget, a nice wine fridge like the one in the video, if not, some decent wine racks from IKEA, or the like, will do, as long as you maintain the proper environment, you should be all good. For the most part, wine is fairly bulletproof, unless you really push it.

after you open a bottle of wine how long does it last if you store in in refrigerator? does it have to consume the wine in one setting/time
@wine-living5 жыл бұрын
Opened bottles of white and red can be stored in the fridge after opening, whites will last about 4 days, reds about a week. Yes, you can throw your reds in the fridge too, especially in the summer! If it's not too expensive, you can even freeze a bottle in the freezer (make sure it's only partially filled) for several weeks, thaw it out and enjoy.!
@yuvrajkote59182 жыл бұрын
hi, 1.what is the optimal time to consume red wine when once opened? 2.what is optimal temperature range to store unopened red and white wine bottle? and optimal temperature of wines after opened. 3please make a video to explain the fact. That, bottles are transported in what temp means it is not important or they transport in fridge vehicles. or normal ones
@wine-living2 жыл бұрын
Hi! 1. Your bottle of wine will only last for a few days after opening. Red wine lasts about 4 days total. 2. Store your wines at about 55°F and after opening, you want to serve white wines at about 45-50°F and reds at about 60°F. I'm not sure I understand the last question?
@yuvrajkote59182 жыл бұрын
@@wine-living Hi, last question is about transportation fluctuations in temperature of wines. If they are ferment at room temp. and filtered at lower temp than that. after that they have to bottle and transport it so before we get bottles from fridges of store, they are brought in vehicles. So, what type of vehicles are used cold storage or normal once. means wine is transported like coca cola bottles or like frozen ice creams. (at what temperature)?

Should we add a moist sponge inside the wine cooler for reaching 70% humidity???
@wine-living2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the cooler. A good model is already designed to keep the humidity there. But yes, for a fridge with no hudity control you'd need a separate unit to keep the humidity.

if you are storing red wine in a fridge, is it common practice to drink it straight from the fridge cold or should you let it come to room temp before serving?
@wine-living3 жыл бұрын
Some people like their reds a little chilly, but normally you want to serve red wines at about 60 - 65° F. So yes, let it come up to temperature!

Depends on what kind of wine! But generally speaking, yes. You should refrigerate a white, red and rose after opening. Sweet wines don't necessarily need refrigeration.

I intend to buy a beverage cooler to store my home made wine still kept in demijohns. As for temperatures I have no worries as these coolers can maintain a temp of 8℃. I am little concerned about vibrations though. Do you think that running compressor of these coolers can damage wines kept inside the coolers. How about refrigerators' lower sections. Will vibrations affect wine quality We don't get coolers specially designed to store wines in india.
@wine-living5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jatinder, good question. Yes, if the refrigerator is loud and shakes a lot, probably not good. But most modern fridges are pretty quiet and efficient. If you can't specifically find a wine refrigerator, at least find a high quality one with the compressor located at the top of the unit; it may be better with the vibrations coming from top, rather than bottom.

I'm looking at wine cellar coolers an am wondering about the thermometer probes that measure the temperature of the wine in the bottle as apposed to the actual air temperature in the cellar. What in your opinion is better, measuring the air temp or the wine bottle liquid temp?
@wine-living5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle, measuring the individual wine bottle temps is better, no doubt. But will come at a cost. That's what it comes down to with almost everything... Money!! For most purposes, just measuring air temp and humidity will suffice.
@johnkasianowicz65363 жыл бұрын
The relevant temperature is that of liquid in the wine cellar or refrigerator. Liquids have greater heat capacity than air, and their temperature will fluctuate far less than that of air. You don’t want to have your refrigerator try to chase the more rapid air temp fluctuations.

Do you prefer chilled white wine or room temp?
@wine-living6 жыл бұрын
Michael Jay San Pablo most often I prefer it chilled, but there are some whites, like Viognier, and Riesling, which seem to be ok slightly warm. I also prefer my reds to have a little nip to them.
