Sabrina Carpenter hard launched her singing career half a decade after her Disney Channel show ended. Olivia Rodrigo dropped her first album after the first season of her Disney+ show and it unexpectedly blew up and became one of the best albums of the year. Timing is everything.
@meri68025 ай бұрын
i think the reason olivia has such a young audience is because of how the media portrayed her when drivers license came out. she was only 17 and still in high school which a lot of people LOVEDDD. whereas when DL came out sabrina was portrayed as this older, more mature girl. i think people just haven’t broken out of the “olivia is a little baby and sabrina is a grown woman” mindset. and it genuinely sucks because olivia is trying so damn hard to be seen as mature now, but people will just always think of her as that 17 year old little girl

I also don't think she's really made any sort of recent turn towards being more adult. Driver's License, her first song, drops an 'F bomb' in the bridge. It's not like she's been presenting a squeaky clean image until the most recent album. It's on the parents to not take their kids to concerts that aren't age appropriate.

I think the audience being kids boils down to the fact that kids entertainment was at the forefront of public attention until about 8 years ago, like Maya said they only have Olivia Rodrigo, when it’s been quite a few years now since she’s been associated with Disney. I disagree that Olivia Rodrigo should cater her music more to a young audience. To me its very obvious that Olivia has an artistic vision for her music and I think you can see that translated in her performances. The comparison to Mikey and Jojo is unfair in my opinion because Olivia is much more famous for her music then she ever was in Disney. I think Miley and Jojo were doing for mostly shock value but to Olivia is just making music that she likes and about her experiences as a 21 year old girl. I think its unfair to chalk up her current style of performance to wanting to break out of the "Disney Girl" perception and devalues the artistic value of what she is doing. Makes her out to be a child acting out as opposed to an Artist doing what she enjoys.

I don't think QT is saying she should cater to her younger audience. But the fact of the matter is is that she DOES have a younger audience compared to a lot of other pop stars rn. Well Olivia is the youngest out of all those artists mentioned (sabrina, taylor, chappell) so that's probably why she has a younger audience. That being said I went to her concert as a 22 year old with my 18, 24, and 19 year old friends and I saw a lot of people within that range of 18-25 year olds. The vibes were not off at all at my concert everyone was standing, dancing and singing along. I wonder if that is just qt and her friends perspectives as older women perhaps. I also don't think she curses excessively or over-sexualizes herself nor do I think she should change herself and cater to a younger audience because her music doesn't and parents can do their research prior to going if they think she isn't appropriate for their kids.

Plus, the whole growing up with the audience. I don't think this age, around 9-13, has a young star in the mainstream to follow? I could be wrong. There's two sides to the Chappell Roan stuff. On the one hand, yes she deserves to not be stalked, not be touched, not be assaulted, not be ripped away from things like having dinner with her family/going to the doctor/etc. On the other side, you are a roll model, you are an icon, you are a celebrity who lives a life of absolutely infinite luxury compared to the overworked, underpaid and depressed fans who spend what little extra money they have coming to your shows and buying your music/merch that allows you to live far beyond your wildest dreams for the remainder of your life even if you were to fall off the face of the Earth after 5 years and were never heard from again/never made another dollar. You don't owe it to anyone to interrupt dinner with your family for a selfie, but if you're walking down the street and someone sees you it really is your job to greet them and be friendly as long as they are being respectful. You get paid to be in the spotlight and be an icon to these people. That doesn't mean 5 large men get to surround Chappell and back her into a corner and make her feel afraid, but if they were to walk up and say "oh my god, chappell? We love your music! Do you mind if we get a pic?" That's entirely part of your job. You can make someone's whole month for 30 seconds of your time, why wouldn't you want to do that as long as they were being respectful when they spoke to you?' It has also been shown to be possible by other celebrities. Danielle Radcliffe, Elijah Wood, Shaq, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, John Cena, The Rock, and so many more celebrities constantly go out of their way for their fans and act with respect towards them no matter the situation because they appreciate the fact that they'd be working a 9 - 5 if it wasn't for the fans.

The thing with chappell honestly is that if you want something to change tou have to try. You cant only try to change things that you know will work. Of course theres gonna be backlash, im sure she knows it but shes gonna try because if she tries and it doesnt work is the same outcome of never trying but, if it does she can lead a happier life.

Its interesting how the blame is always shifted between the celebrity and the parents for the young audience. Every instance its different.

Do you think there is some random Monica watching this? Asking herself "what the F did I do!?!?"

She better be asking herself how she should apologize for what Dream Monica did.

Ludwig saying he would fire Monica and all this for her sitting on his lap is also annoying when HE'S the one who is to blame in the first place. Monica was just living her life, and now she has to be punished for Ludwig's screw up? crazy.

Dream Lud should totally quit his dream company if he used his CEO powers to get dream HR to hire Dream Monica with such a dodgy clause in her contract!

I was 14/15 in 2014 and had grown up on Miley Cyrus on Disney, my parents just didn’t take me to her tour. I think this is a parent problem ?

37:21 genuinely couldn’t believe this take. saw olivia in chicago and it was so well matched in terms of energy. there also weren’t as many young kids there and my friends and i are younger than QT and the gang, so that may be it ? idk, didn’t agree 100%

I went to a Pink Friday concert in 2012 and I would not have let my 13 year old self go to what was obviously going to be a highly explicit Nicki Minaj concert. I mean Tyga literally opened with Rack City B*tch lmaooo It was lit (literally, there were pyrotechnics that I could feel the heat from all the way in the back) and I so wish I could relive it as an adult. From memory, I don't think there were a lot of kids there and my mum was hesitant to let me go but she made a pretty well-informed decision. Anyone who heard her music or watched her music videos would've known what was in store for a concert.

I went to Olivia Rodrigo’s show in Cologne and the vibes seemed fine. The show didn’t strike my partner as weird either. Everyone was standing the whole time there.

41:28 this bit of the take definitelyyyy felt like swifty-based criticism. taylor humps a chair infront of kids and that’s not brought up in qt’s criticism at all until maya brought it up. i also disagree that she curses at every opportunity or why it’s a surprise to qt, her debut single had an f-bomb in the chorus, obsessed (the song referenced with the plexy glass) is literally about sex. it’s just coming off weird. also the “why are we jumping the ground, ladies” solidified this for me, cause if taylor did this, she would eat it up as female empowerment. i love qt, but this came off so weird :(

olivia is 22 and aabrina is 25, girl meets world was for adolescents and maybe young teens, bizzardvark i would say was for a slightly younger audience. but i watched both as a kid and im 20 now. more recently just ending last year she did high school musical the musical which is for kids so thwyre probably coming bc they know some of her popular songs on disney but dont necessarily listen to her albums. i know selena gomez had her early songs played on disney channel in between episodes and ads
