Winegard Air 360+ and Gateway: Combining HDTV with Wi-Fi & Cellular

Over the past few years, Winegard has branched out to also offer long rang Wi-Fi and roof-mounted cellular via its ConnecT and ConnecT 2.0 products, but RV manufacturers have been hesitant to add yet another major component to already crowded RV roofs.
So why not combine things - and hide the cellular and Wi-Fi antennas under the same dome as the TV antenna?
That is the core idea behind Winegard's Air 360+, a new product designed to offer a great amplified TV antenna for RV manufacturers to build onto new RVs - but with an easy "Gateway" upgrade path to allow RV owners to simply add cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity as well, without needing to drill any additional holes or pull additional wires to tap into the antennas on the roof.

It's nice to know that the RV manufacturers are trying to stay up with the moves in electronics that are helping people stay connected. Good to be able to connect in an emergency even if you want to be away from it all. That said, I think it would be nice if they could upgrade their building techniques a little when it comes to the roofs and sealants used to keep water out. The workmanship leaves little to be desired and even if you're handy and have the time to try and keep up (the majority of folks aren't and don't) the chore (or labor of love depending) can still get away from you. Maybe someday? Thanks for the content it's very thorough and informative.

We have the Connect T 2.0 which had a huge loss of speed when using the WIFI. Winegard said that is normal and we are looking for options to remedy, did you have the same issue with your 360+?
@MobileInternetResourceCenter
@MobileInternetResourceCenter 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by 'loss of speed' - as compared to what? Any wireless hop you add will always result in a loss of some speed, just the nature of the beast. But the 360+ is basically the same guts as the ConnecT 2.0.

@@MobileInternetResourceCenter Because I was having speed issues I did a test.. At home I connected my laptop to my home WIFI directly while inside the RV. Did some speed tests. Then I connected my Winegard to the same home WIFI and connected my laptop to the Winegard and re ran the speed tests. I lost on average of about 60% of the speed. I have GIG speed at my house so it doesn't matter but when I'm at an RV Camp where the WIFI is notoriously slow, then slowing it down by half makes it unusable for say...streaming KZbin. I work on the road while traveling so I need to be able to do Zoom calls etc that's why I got the system but it hurts for that...doesn't help. At least that's my experience and I'm looking for a work around. It definitely improves the strength of the signal but at the cost of any speed.
@MobileInternetResourceCenter
@MobileInternetResourceCenter 3 жыл бұрын
A device like this won't help if you have great signal to begin with and can connect your devices directly. Adding a wireless hop will just diminish that performance. Devices like this are more for long range, reaching a signal your laptops can't on their own. But you're not going to be using campground Wi-Fi for Zoom calls.. that's an unrealistic expectation. Most just aren't setup for it. You need to assemble a MUCH more robust setup than a low end consumer product like this. @@MobileInternetResourceCenter Thanks for the info... That's basically what Winegard said and I will say it works fabulously at picking up a weak signal. Just for us on the east coast...it's rare to never we are somewhere so remote that we don't have a strong signal. Thanks again.

Hello! I have a question. We are full time on our new RV and we have the Air 360 Plus on the roof. I was thinking to add the gateway to enhance the wifi signal and also have a LTE SIM card for where there is not wifi available. My question is: Does still make sense to spend the $300 on the Winegard Gateway, or there is a better set up available? Also, what type of router would I need? Thank you!

I've seen some RV'ers install alternative routers with the Air 360+ (instead of the Gateway) using adapters for the cable connections. Do you know if the wifi antenna under the dome is dual-band? Will it receive both 5GHz and 2.4GHz wifi signals? The Gateway itself is not dual band, but I'd like to install an upgraded dual-band router in my rig with both 5GHz and 2.4GHz, but that doesn't make sense if the dome antenna can only receive 2.4GHz. Thanks!

If you have the 360 on the roof but no interior prep, you may have the 360 and NOT the 360 "plus". The regular 360 is the TV antenna only and not the wifi and cellular antenna. If you have the 360 plus, you should have interior prep. To activate it, you need to buy the additional router. Amazon - 275.00. You can use it simply as a wifi booster if you are at a place with wifi, but a weak signal. Or you can insert a Sim card into the router (mounted on the ceiling) and receive a 4g LTE signal to your router. This will create a secure network within your rv. Hope this helps

If I’m understanding this right, I can add the gateway router which will grab the campground’s WiFi from up to 1/2 mile away, but will it strengthen the signal then in my RV? Then for the modem, is there a way to add a booster to the cellular antennas in the 360+ to strengthen whatever cell signal they pick up? For example since I already pay for an AT&T data plan, could I pop in the SIM from my cell phone, hook a booster to the gateway router and an indoor WiFi antenna to hotspot our devices?

@@tomcat5986 I think Chris and Cherie attempt to give us the best information so that we can make an informed decision as to what equipment/system will best suit our individual needs. Most of us are expecting lightning-fast wifi and suburban cellphone signals everywhere we travel to but with the limitations of the equipment and service offered, there really is no "best" solution for everyone. At least that is the conclusion I have come to. Hopefully, manufacturers and cellphone carriers will realize many more people are working remotely from the road now and will make attempts to upgrade their equipment to accommodate this new wave of mobile telecommuters.
