Amazing technology in those days. Boeing designed the B52 to cast the shadow of a B17. That's a devious plan, genius!

"Nuclear combat, toe to toe with the Rooskies." Probably the favorite line of any movie for a good buddy of mine. Too funny......

I wonder if any B-52 pilots today keep cowboy hats in the planes just so they can be like Major Kong in case they ever have to go toe to toe with the rooskies.
@dmrr7739Ай бұрын
I know originally the part of major Kong was supposed to be played by Peter Sellers. But I think they really lucked out when they got Slim Pickens instead.

I've often what would it have been like if Peter Sellers had played Maj Kong as originally intended or Slim Pickens had played Halloran in "The Shining" as Kubrick initially wanted.
@Heike--Ай бұрын
Halloran had too small of a role. Jack carried that movie.

There is a cruel irony in that a character with such due diligence and caution is the one who ends up being the cause of nuclear armageddon.
@Heike--Ай бұрын
*NO* The cause of the nuclear Armageddon was the insane swamp in DC who built such a weapon and put humanity at risk in the first place. Let's put the blame where it belongs. As this comment is being written, humanity is at risk for WW3 because they might throw a temper tantrum because they lost the war in Ukraine. Only time will tell if the war ends without going nuclear. Remember the motto: "nuclear war is preferable to Russian victory in Ukraine."

The centrefold Playboy model is also General Buck Turgidson’s “personal” secretary. Kubrick loved dropping little ‘Easter eggs’ in his productions.

They still fly nuclear arms out here at Minot AFB. The b52 is a majestic if a little ugly beast. It moves through the air just as smooth as a picture. Theyre amazing if you can manage to forget the world changing payload they take off with everyday

3:50 - I remember an interview with James Earl Jones, where he says that this scene was to be cut, but Jones fought it, because besides that this scene was what defined his character, it is also pivotal to the story, because it obliterates the notion that those soldiers are just blind marionettes - they consider their actions, and are fully aware of their consequences. Rest in peace, James Earl Jones!

To think that the B-52 is still flying combat today and even being upgraded for a couple more decades use.

The Buff shown was a model of the real thing, but as for the interior they actually made a real good guesser and in the end there was an investigation into security on set, what they made the biggest thing with was the bombrun and safety switches, and once again they said it is what made sense to them in the studio were they to make one from what other planes had or would have if they had stayed in the air longer.

That's a Texas accent. What, never heard it? Chinese also inserts "r" sounds into words because of the way the mouth moves.
