@George Michael Jr No because the Chinese communist government in 20th century weakened Kung Fu, they were scared it could be used against them, so they discouraged sparring and encouraged "dancing" type things like Wu Shu. Bruce Lee was from Hong Kong so he escaped this influence. Other Chinese left China in the 20th century (former nationalists etc.) and went to Europe, US etc, and taught the "white man". This is where you can still find some good schools today. This is also why you see these old Chinese "masters" getting their ass kicked by Xu Xiaodong in China, cus they never sparred, whereas you look at Western practitioners (search Alan Orr or FightScience) and you see people who do real sparring and can fight.

@Jose Stickman This drill is to let go of thoughts and respond instictively instead which is much faster and safer when synced. It's also a stress test to train you to keep calm under high pressure. Keeping calm is the key to maintain fast accurate tactical awarenes where fear, stress and emotions kills your awarenes. Flinch responses is fine and can often be helpful if synced with your arsenal. If not you freeze up that gives panic + tunnelvision and removes any rational skill you have undtil calm again if you survive the attack. This drill alone is not enough to master preventing unwilling mental escalation against any random attacks, but it can cover a big part of it.

@病毒愚蠢的美国人 I mean, I did say knife demonstration, not reality, but it has some realistic element in this demonstration. This demonstration happen when both side has knife and has prepared for the fight. Answer this, if you and your opponent have knives and willing to fight, will you do a full thrust, without taking account that oppnent may parry + evade the attack and counter it? Note here, I say parry + evade.

Respect, to both masters and the sifu , yes it is about being fluid , to not let fea, r of the blade , knife distract you , building up speed practice , different attacking systems , syllabus , even switching knife hands. . the attacker , because a good knife man will switch and slash cut tendons , the average guy on the streets will stab , thrust , possibly pivot , punch kick , a better knife man will switch positions of knife in the one hand , extend reverse hide the blade , all must be accounted for , Good beginning drill from you , leading to better awareness , as you say fluid , responding without thinking just reaction , timing is essential , , adapting to changes in a instant , Great respect these teachings can save lives. The JKD shifu has great cardio. He doesn't change his cadence or breath hard like a lot of other KZbin teachers. The knife drill is nice. However. In prisons and a lot of street fights. I believe the straight short stab into the same area is the most common method. We stuided prison shanking about 10 years ago from an ex con. Nobody could avoid his shanks. Not BJJ, not wrestlers, not karate or kung fu masters. But he taught us that the unexpected is hard to avoid. No one can escape a surprise shank. But still practice. It will help you survive. This is a great drill. I am looking fwd to practice it Thank you Master Wong and the Grassless Shifu

We call this drill knife tapping or cross tapping in Pekiti Tirsia Kali the biggest difference in PTK is we add forward pressure as you get better at the drill to cut down the opponent’s angles and we insert strikes of our own to enter. As the drill is presented in this video it is defensive in nature. In PTK we are always offensive, counter offensive and recounter offensive......defense is the other guys problem.

Well, thank you for your kind words, my friend. It's crucial in our training to face unexpected challenges-it sharpens both the mind and the skills. Regarding the electric knife scenario, it's about preparing for the worst to bring out the best in ourselves. As for your question on closing the gap, it's all about timing and control. The cornerstone of our training is mastering this art, crucial in real-world confrontations. Remember, "fight move, people move." How do you navigate such situations?
