A Chinese friend of mine joined our Kyokushin dojo here in Tokyo. He had previous full contact karate experience as he had briefly joined a Shinkyokushin dojo, and he is a very good fighter. I once asked him if he had any experience with Chinese martial arts before coming to Japan, and he said “Wing Chun”. I was impressed, and hoped maybe he could pass on some cool tips. This guy gives a shit on it, but remember one thing:" never ever start a fight, but always end it" Well, this was a military view of things, but still he said what all the masters say. It's not to start a thing. Well, one thing he also said is, first round always is mental, if you win, the attacker rethink and don't even attack. Once I was stopped by 3 bullies, searching for a victim. Basically I stood where like bored to death, even slightly put my hands into my jacket and just said, very silently and calm to the leader:"you are not here for trouble and I am not here for trouble to." when I placed one finger, only one, next to his shoulder and directed him to the side, so I could left the circle around me. One minute later I entered a train that just arrived and another guy who was there entered behind me and showed me his ID, he was a police officer out of duty, he just said:"I would have helped you, but you did not need it, my respect." This is "winning the first round" They tried to provoke and intimidate to cause fear. I just denied them success, so they was irritated and I topped it by commanding their leader to the side like pulling an insect away. They searched for a victim, I did the exact opposite. So yeah, he was not in for that kind of trouble.

IKR, It didn't show Wing Chun in a real fight. That's because it's expensive as hell feeding a Wing Chun Master. Every time they loose a fight it's because they didn't eat enough. "Wing Chun Master vs Xu Xiaodong" looses the fight, and the reason he lost. "They didn't feed me enough rice before the fight'..........Yeah he really said that......Then the "Wing Chun Master vs Chinese Boxer with one arm tied behind his back" .......Gets creamed... His reason "They only served us one entre the afternoon before the fight"....... So I'm like Okay We hit a buffet and dude ate the whole place. I square up to fight, and "Ooh no I'm too full" that went on for 8 hours and it was always too hungry to fight, or too full to fight. Then it's "Oops I gotta take a shit." lol I Guess if you want to find and Fight a Wing Chun Master, Just look by the on and off ramps for a cat with a sign that says. "Will fight for food" Yeah for real, you see the way IP man whoop that dude for a Yam, and then a whole school for bags of rice. I get it Wing Chun Masters are raging Pot Heads. Now it totally makes since, Which explains the Raging Munchies, and why they think Wing Chun actually works. THEY'RE HIGH!!!

I used these techniques against two opponents who ambushed me. Two broken noses later, they determined my pretending to misunderstand them was covering an ability to have 100 percent accuracy landing only counter punches. First punch was a right hook. I placed my elbow inside his elbow and aligned the fist to his nose. His own punch force used my hand to break his nose. Second punch was a right cross. I deflected wrist to wrist as he fully extended his punch, stepped, facing him, diagonally forward until my head was just outside his right elbow range, and palmed his right eardrum. Third punch, another right cross. Same wrist block, this time behind his right elbow. Stepped forward but less diagonal, pushing him to over twist the punch. Palm strike to ear with push sent him back about ten feet from broken balance. Fourth strike, straight right. Countered with strait left that again elbow blocked incoming force into smearing his nose again. Having had time for pain to overcome anger, we hugged and he called the police on me. Second opponent, first punch was right hook. Broke his nose with faster strait left counter punch. This attack was between the first and second punch of the first opponent. Second opponent second punch was also a right hook. Eardrum damage from palm counter strike. Third strike was counter palm strike exactly the same as second. He wised up after three tries, likely in part to his smaller stature and realizing that the first, larger opponent than me, was too injured to want to continue. He stopped trying to throw my bike off the bridge and ran away before police arrived. Police let me go after realizing that compassion kept my opponent's heads from bouncing off the pavement.

It helped me out a lot when I was attacked unexpectedly a few years ago. People often try to compare Wing Chun with a MMA fighter. Of course MMA is going to be more effective overall because it contains aspects of all martial arts. So no individual, singular martial art can hang with MMA, which is an integration of the best of all other martial arts into a truly comprehensive and continually expanding form of combat.

The Shaolin Monks would visit our school once a year to verify the quality of the training. Once I reached 6 months in training I became self aware that the new me would destroy the old me quickly! (and I had been a street fighter all of my life, albeit a brawler, but used over-committed strikes to the torso to buckle my opponent since I was light weight) This art is like chess for physical combat, with all possibilities already weighed and counter moves already practiced. A REAL combat style for the street; crippling your enemies, controlling the distance of combat, and in some instances, manipulating your opponent into attacks they perceive to be open/vulnerable just to fall into your trap and get destroyed! I started learning Wing Chun at 64 years old. The training was brutal: 100 fist push ups and 100 sit ups in the one hour session, in addition to learning and practicing punches and kicks. Our Sifu was awesome, he let us hit him in the ribs as heard as we could, and it had no effect. As he said, you have to condition your body, if you punch someone Wing Chun with unconditioned fists, you will break your knuckles. As in everything else, you have to put in the hours and years to be good. And two other points, a good big one will beat a good small one, and it rarely matters which style you have learned, if the other guy has learned longer!

Wing Chun does use elbow strikes though. Not 100% sure on knees but I'm pretty dang sure they're used as well. I'm no fighter but so far it seems like Wing Chun seems like a favorable martial art in the self-defense context because of the speed. Other martial arts like muay thai and boxing may have more powerful strike techniques, but you don't need super powerful strikes in a real fight because weakspots like groin, neck, eyes, etc exist. Thus, it's all about who can actually land their strikes first. Wing Chun just seems like a pretty practical package on paper: it's fast, utilizes basically all striking tools, focuses on applying pressure as well as defense, and incorporates practical weak spots.

I wasn't in a position to just walk away and so I, let fire with all I had learnt in just a couple of years and my opponents left the scene rather sore and never to be seen again" Great Martial Arts Style ". Remember to Avoid using excessive force in a fight to defend yourself as stated by the LAW>

"Is Wing Chun useful in a street fight?" That depends on how often a person that practices Wing Chun has been in a street fight and how experienced their opponent is.
@MiguelMedina-hb1oo3 жыл бұрын
Well depending on how he use it martial arts is like chess counters and defense at the right time. If you can break there defense then you win You don't have to show people that you know how to fight you just have to know how to use it.. Most people don't know martial arts in street fighters..i have seen it. I have fast response time on my moves blocks and defense.. So yeah martial arts is not were it used to be not many practices it.

@@MiguelMedina-hb1oo If you're playing chess and the other person is playing checkers then it doesn't matter what the rules are or who can play what game better. What matters is who has the bigger and faster hammer to smash the board.

I had once had a confrontation with a bully as a freshman in high school, as his 3 friends stood by watching him degrade and humiliate me I just got bored of the situation and put my hands up like old style jack johnson.. they all started laughing. When my adversary put his hands up and got in closer to me for his attack...I opened my hands up and his teeth started flying all over the place..he never knew I can handle myself..he just assumed.. like I said, I ONCE! had a confrontation with a bully ..if you want to call it that..the moral of this story is when your bored, find a bully to practice on.

Obviously the movies are a very strategic choreographed fight but I'm sure a fight with someone who has practiced a certain discipline for so long is gonna be dangerous.

43 seconds in, that shot of Jackie Chan fighting the wooden trainer thing: I was there! My first day on a big movie, Vancouver, me with a rented forty year old Nagra reel to reel recording the sounds of Jackie smacking away. The shot was made in a building that is very important to Chinese Canadians, like an informal embassy that has greeted generations of Chinese coming to Canada. Huge history and reverence from the crew. I was terrified I would screw something up, but I survived. I came in in the middle of a six month shoot. I learned a lot in the next three months; number one that Jackie is like some kind of superior being walking among us. Endless patience and stamina and inventiveness and full of kindness and humour. Fan for life.

There was a big bully at my HS, he used to pick on me all the time and beat me up, so I got tired of it and went to take wing chung classes, I trained for almost 5 months 3 hour a day, When the bully came back and start trouble with me, I challenged him without fear and 15 minutes later, I was on the floor In KO , he beat the shit out of me again!!
