Bruce Lee is definitely the idol everyone looked up to and was inspired by. So that's already a great reason why he was such a symbol in the martial arts world, and so great at his craft. And, he was so fast with his kicks, that Hollywood had to modify their camera equipment just to catch all of Bruce's movements. I don't care who you are in the industry, that's fast lol. But aside from that, my favourites of all time will always be Bruce Lee {R.I.P} Jet, Jackie, Donnie and Tony Jaa. To me, they're just as fast and awesome to watch on screen.

@@vazgl100 oh i know. I appreciate the message. Hollywood is Hollywood after all. That is a given and well known fact, so i am aware of the tricks and special effects. @Tab Ally Actually, same things said about Jet Li. Even Jackie Chan said that although he and Li were good friends, and had known each other for a long time, he had never done a movie with Jet Li so he never knew until they worked together on The Forbidden Kingdom (which isn't a great movie but does have some great fight scenes), he said he never knew just how fast Jet Li was before working with him. I think Jet should've been top 3 on the list honestly. His style of Kung Fu he was trained in is designed to be flowing, but also bent on precision AND incredible reflexes and speed.

@zaynes5094 I don't disagree at all. They are all fast martial artists in their respective styles and art forms. A few other great Martial Artist with speed and power to add to the list would be Tadashi Yamashita (my former sensei) Michael Jae White and Dan Inosanto who I got to train with over the years. I always remember a story Guro Inosanto told. Now I found Guro Inosanto to be incredibly fast (he had run a 9.3 100-yard dash in college, so he had fast twitch muscles), yet he said whenever he sparred Bruce Lee, he doesn't ever remember scoring on him! Curious, and not disrespectful, but are you saying the Guru Inasanto was as fast as Usain Bolt? 9.23 and 9.29 sec.? Bruce was definitely fast, but even Bruce said he'd met people faster than him.. Part of his talent was appearing fast since he knew when to strike making him seem much faster.

This is cool but being in the martial arts for the past 35 years I’ve seen some ridiculous speed in fighters in all kinds of martial arts , thing to remember the old saying speed kills but if someone doesn’t have the power behind then it’s not necessarily the most important thing , it’s good to be fast with your techniques but power and being able to land those strikes is another thing because in a real fight they’re so many unexpected things that tend to pop up it’s actually better to be a powerful striker and have patience with your opponent and be relatively fast with your techniques when it’s the right time , but to each their own you always have to find what works best for you !

I'm old school JKA. I've been lucky enough to see several karateka that were faster than anyone in the video , including Bruce Lee. One time that really stands out was 50yrs. ago. The legendary All Japan Champion Takayuki Mikami was using me as a partner while he explained some things to a class of black belts about reverse punch. As I stood in front of him, watching him intently, he punched to my face. I NEVER SAW HIM MOVE !! One second his fist was at his hip, then it was an inch from my face. It was as if you took a movie and then edited out all the frames in between. To top it off, I could actually feel a certain force from his punch though I wasn't touched. One of the most incredible experiences of my life.

@@stephanierodriguez1359 Yes, the way I heard him was that he said: "There are many faster than me. I just learned to be deceptive." He was spot on about himself there. I love the speed, and when I was younger, I couldn't see my own hand move in and out. Neither could others; but this was in the 80's and I wasn't focused very long on boxing and martial arts as I found it all too simplistic for me, not challenging enough, so eventually gravitated to dancing and athletics. My claims to fame were 1/ At 32 years, I stopped and started a digital watch using stopwatch function, in the smallest possible unit of time, 0.01 - That is, one one hundredth of a second, and 2/ Unbeaten in a reflex game spanning 30 years. Speed still fascinates me,

Just keep in mind that there's a difference between "punching fast" and "punching effectively". Super-fast punches like this are largely just a matter of showing off - they're not actually effective punches (Which DK Yoo could out the first time in his life he got into a real fight and Bradley Scott - who turned up jetlagged and hungover - made him look like an idiot). They look good on camera and during demos, but they don't necessarily equate to effectiveness. It's the martial arts equivalent of a trick shot in snooker. The best trick shooter in the world isn't necessarily the best snooker player. And I think it's kind of telling that with the exception of the Jet and Trusov, the people on this list have no legitimate fighting experience to speak of (DK Yoo's fighting experience consists of getting punched around the ring, and hugging a man for three quarters of the fight). Watch any boxer worth their salt working a speed bag, and they'll be doing punches at insane speeds. But they don't punch like that in fights; there's a reason for that. Even Trusov wouldn't punch like that in fights, even though he's got a world record for punching fast.

Actually Donnie Yen used to get into street fights during his teen years, which resulted in his mom sending Donnie to live with his aunt in Hong Kong. In the 90s he then hospitalized 8 guys that were harassing his then-gf at a club, bcos they followed them after they left the club as well. He was detained by the police until they cleared things up. His career also took a hit as a result if I remember correctly, which then got a boost thanks to Jet Li including Donnie Yen in the 2002 wuxia epic, Hero.

@@zuriyel5368 This is the same thing people use when trying to big up Bruce Lee. They act like a surly teenager getting into fights with other surly teenagers is some kind of "street fight" in the style of Blood sport. If teenage boys getting into brawls with each other amounts to "fighting experience", when that would make 90% of schoolboys fights. It doesn't. "In the 90s he then hospitalized 8 guys that were harassing his then-gf at a club" That isn't in dispute, but that's not really fighting experience either. That's beating up a bunch of untrained and, most likely, drunk out of their face guys.

The thing with Bruce Lee was the fact he had to slow down for camera to film his hits. So what you see on screen may not have been his fastest moves. Perhaps watching the Green Hornet and behind the scenes of the TV show may showcase his true speed.
@reefhog

That fake story has been told many times, and you couldn’t even get it right. You use a high speed camera to slow down the action, you don’t slow the camera down.
@andrewang3196
@andrewang3196 2 жыл бұрын
@@reefhog well sort of, High-speed cinema cameras are able to capture subjects and events happening at extremely fast speeds by syncing the speed of the film with the speed of the image. After recording a sequence of images at high-speed, the film can be played at normal speed, which causes the sequence to appear in slow motion and allows for better visual analysis
@reefhog
@reefhog 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewang3196 no kidding. That’s not slowing down the camera. That’s using a high speed camera, exactly what I said. Bruce Lee was not filmed with high speed cameras while shooting his movies, which has been a myth for decades. Anyone who believes that he would agree to being filmed at a higher speed so when the movie is played, he is moving slower than in real life, is an idiot.
@andrewang3196
@andrewang3196 2 жыл бұрын
@@reefhog but we're talking about 1966, at that time cameras recorded footage at a slower frame rate so adequately capturing Bruce Lee's speed wasn't feasible. This was also mentioned in the book 'Bruce Lee: A Life' by Matthew Polly
@reefhog
@reefhog 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewang3196 that’s not true at all. Maybe you should find out what frame rate means. Movies have been shot at 24 fps since the late 1920s, and still is. Take a few seconds to think how stupid it would look if they slowed down Bruce, because supposedly he was so much faster than the other actors, who would now move in slow motion. Do you seriously think Bruce would agree with looking slower. Stop believing and perpetuating lies.
