Real wing Chun! Trying to explain the ‘stick’ is nigh on impossible, and it takes a lot of experience and practice to get it right, especially against a trained fighter. But when you get the concept and can apply it without thinking, it’s amazing.

Ive been taking wing chun for the last 7 months and i love it. Its changed my perspective on my martial arts training evolving it really. shorter more practical moments and split second adjustment. I noticed as i worked that it has a lot in common with other systems. The sensitivity bridge walking trapping and sinking energy sciences are so great it is just so cool. I had other training before hand and i still cross train and tournament is a little new to me however though i feel like im doing pretty good at the moment. wing chun seems to make everything come together. Honestly the quality is great Tbh studying has been easier to thanks to sifu adam chan and his teams videos. They are very informative and i dont struggle so much in my class as much. Im still on sil nim tau and wooden man. Thanks both you Sifu adam chan your videos and Sifu Rahim and my wing chun brothers i feel like im making good progress. Sticking is used after initial contact is made to determine the type and direction of the strike. From there, you have two options. The first is to push the hand past the center, causing an opening you can step into and exploit. Maintain contact for a split second while you enter in to maintain control of your opponent so he doesn't pull any surprises on you. The second one involves retracting the hand quickly. In this case, you can make and MAINTAIN CONTACT, following in his center of mass (as per Wong Shun Leung), then trap the arm and LEG (which practically immobilizes the upper body, stopping any pending attacks) and finish the fight quickly! Trapping ONLY works after initial contact is made. Wing chun is the only system that uses trapping in this manner. This is REAL trapping, not like the fake trapping of boxing or any boxing derivative! It's use is control of the structure and the pending destruction of said structure to open an opponent up for attack.

Clearly the most practical videos for fighting I have seen on KZbin. My question is always the same one. Where should a person over 60 start if he wants to learn internal and external or better still if he wants to maximize his chances of being able to defend himself without becoming a body builder(just an example). I used to be a fanatic squash player but I have not even gone to the gym for the past 8 years because of life problems. Now I want to get fit and learn a system. Yours is the most impressive and I trust you.

I've been using some of this for a long time and I had no idea, it just seemed natural. I finally understand Wing Chun. In karate you push the left hand jab to the left using the right hand, then you grab the attacker's hand using your left hand and you pull it towards your hip left side. You do this while stepping to the right, outside attacker's left foot and you destroy as many internal organs as you can using a right hand powerful punch. There are different approaches, in Daido Juku or Kudo they use a judo grab from the outside and control the attacker instead of punching. Using sticky hands is easier, safer and faster although the distance is different. No matter the technique or the style you have to feel your attacker's energy, that's the true lesson here,

I've watched several of Adams videos and while I don't agree with everything he's pretty much right on the money here. One of the Wing Chun concepts is learning how to attack and defend without giving energy to your opponent and while trapping is effective and has its applications what very few people realize is that trapping is a beginner/basic technique. For the grapplers out there instead of spending all your time getting out of a choke it's better to learn to avoid it in the first place. A skilled Wing Chun practitioner will learn techniques and practice their sensitively so they don't have to trap.
@subwoofer67266 жыл бұрын
+jr john Although you're entitled to your opinion, I don't see why a person might disagree with Adam unless they are pretty arrogant or just lack the experience to understand because most of the people I see how have disagreed are people who typically didn't have the experience to back up their "theories". Or they haven't practiced enough to really bridge the gap of bewilderment.

No one does this and does that. Sure. But what Adam is showing is 'feel'. when in contact with your opponent, your muscle memory will do the rest. Many WC practitioners fail to understand the real concept behind WC. We do not anticipate, we move in and when there's contact, your hands will know what to do.

@mightymeatmonsta4 жыл бұрын
Ok, first of all, you are doing MODIFIED and that is why you have that problem. There is no step to the outside of the attacking arm or body rotation towards the attack. This makes it very difficult when fighting a boxer or someone who can box. You stay directly in front like that and you will be kissing the pavement! You are trying to go through the center, which is blocked. If you step to the outside of his attacking arm, rotating toward the attack and stepping in on a 45 degree angle, he would have no way to stop your attack since you are on his blindside and too far away for his counter. There is no way to get the other arm to stop the attack either since it is too far away. This leaves you safe and able to strike with impunity until the attacker is no longer a threat.

I've trained in Wing Chun, what I found out in a real street fight against a decently skilled fighter is that majority of the time trapping does not work. It may work on a unskilled person who doesnt know how to fight at all but with a person that actually does know how to fight you will be hard pressed to perform those trapping techniques for the simple fact that most skilled people do not leave there hand out for you to grab/trap. I am not saying its impossible but the probability is very low. Also the less moves it takes to hit your opponent the better. Boxers only have one attack move which is to punch thats it. In trapping there are 2-3 moves which takes more time then just one punching. Even Bruce Lee didnt use much trapping in his later years as a straight line in the shortest fastest way to your target. All that guang sao to lop sao pak sao double pak is just too much moves almost no one is going to keep still for you to perform all those mulitiple moves in a real fight/match. If you watch some of those wing chun versus fight vids majority of the time the wing chun practitioner does not do any trapping he just attacks with the straight blast as his only attack method.

@@mightymeatmonsta I was the best Wing Chun practitioner in my school. We sparred a lot and I was better then everyone and second to my sifu. My confidence level was off the charts as this was one of the few things I was really good at. I also learned some JKD. I met a new friend he was a beginner Golden Gloves boxer. First time we sparred he whooped my ass like nothing. None of that trapping works. Right after I took up boxing, it opened my eyes to real combat. Next I trained in Muay Thai from Master Kam it opened my eyes even more. Then I took BJJ. I also learned Kali from my filipino friend. Go to a boxing gym and spar with a boxer that is in your weight class and see if what you say is extremely effective. You will find the truth for yourself.

That's no good because even at 3:28 you are still in danger. See how your hand is NOT in the center and down? As soon as you rotate to move him forward, he can just take a step forward and throw the STRAIGHT right hand, which will GET IN because your right hand IS NOT IN THE CENTER (SHAME ON YOU!) and is down by your waist!! If you had stepped to the outside after making initial contact, did the body rotation and entered in, this situation would have never happened!

Wow that high level wing Chun. Wow we have seen you do that move in your other videos and wondered what you were doing. So you are taking some internal training and practice aaand practical needs into account thinking about concepts and attributes ... To be more effective and guide your training. That's special. So and? You say you're not a fighter I'm interested though. Pretty interesting stuff. I mean they block it because they feel everything ... But it's also because they know what you're about to do by feeling it and knowing the style. A lot of people say something is no longer Wing Chun or aikido because it doesn't look like a form but I would disagree I think if something looks exactly like the form that's a good test to know that's it's not the martial art when the art is alive and conceptual. If something is so adhering to The form and the styles of the past that it has no life outside of it is that still The form? I mean I say no I say you misunderstood something if that's the way it's practiced it's practiced wrong.
