I think this a temporary fix . So he can feel like everyone else for a bit . I m sure kra is happy in either event.crows are very intelligent they can tell what is love and affection is . He may have been getting discouraged this will help that at least till the feathers grow in next year.

As a zoologist & animal rehabber/rescuer, I’ve saved and raised many a bird, dear friend. Most would rather you don’t spread or manipulate their wings…w exception of a “duck named Debra”. The fact that all of your birds sat calmly…. Including the glorious peacock is a testament to you’re gentle and loving essence which all of them seem to recognize. This goes beyond trust. Not a video yet that doesn’t capture something that brings tears to my eyes.

@@oBuLLzEyEo1013 wing clipping is linked to negative physical and mental health outcomes in birds, and in many cases doesn't prevent flying but rather reduces the control a bird has while in flight, leading to more crash landings and danger. Clipping a bird's wings is like cutting off a person's legs. Birds are meant to fly, that is how they exercise and maintain health. Without the ability to fly birds develop depression, start plucking, and are more susceptible to cardiovascular problems, obesity, and if the bird is clipped too young, never learning to fly and not developing crucial muscle mass. Birds NEED TO FLY TO STAY HEALTHY. The exceptions would be birds that already have some kind of impairment that would make flight more hazardous i.e. vision problems or something impacting coordination. Responsible bird owners NEVER clip healthy birds.

After a year Kraa has surely molted if still alive. Flying is not safe without safety stress allowances. The concept was great but a bird's wing is so easily flawed. I'm concerned the wing quill stubs were still damaged and would have failed even further.

To give everyone context, feather grafting is a falconry technique called "imping." A hunting bird is needed to hunt, so they will keep shed wing feathers in case an important flight feather breaks.

I recently found a baby crow that fell out of the nest and was sitting in the middle of the highway!! I waited for it's mom and looked for a nearby nest for several minutes to no avail. Nearly a month later now, with the help of your videos, I've been able to help this crow of mine (named "Drama" 😊) not just survive--but thrive-- in a loving environment with the best nutrition and access to both the outside world and indoors..letting him have the freedom and shelter to do whatever he wants to do. It's more fulfilling than any cat or dog adoption..it's even different than raising children (I have two). There's a bond between you and the bird that only you and the bird can understand. When we look into their eyes, they know whatever our intentions are. They can read our thoughts. And you can feel the connection and bond so strong it's undeniable. It's so foreign yet so familiar. I didn't know that either until people at british wildlife center uploaded a video of them repairing the wing of a crow. they used the feathers of another crow who had passed away, cut the damaged flight feathers to a specific length and then used wire and glue to attach the prosthetic feathers. and the bird could be released with wings like anew. I was stunned! This procedure is called "imping".

@@MyFaceHole yeah wing feathers endure a lot of force, so they have to be firmly connected. wildlife aid uses wood peg insertions and plenty of glue, but they also do this while the patient is put under. Here's hope the crow will grow proper wing feathers next year!

This knowledge of bird caring is not something new. It is being done in Saudi Arabia by the Royal Hawk Hospital over than 2 decades. It is very popular there if you have money to have a hawk. They get them to the desert also and they hunt foxes. If some feathers break during a hunt, the bird cannot fly till it grow new feathers. So they will visit the Hospital for feathers transplant. They remove the feathers 'sticks', of the broken feathers, that grow inside the wing muscles of the bird and they put in that space a piece of wooden stick with the new feather glued at the edge. They have plenty of hawk feathers in their stock. Sometimes it maybe a little painful for the bird to remove the feather 'stick'.

@@NamuTheOrca Have you seen this person’s channel at all? It IS very likely he has permits and licenses to own the animals he does. This is literally his livelihood, taking care of birds and other animals, I think it’s safe to safe he knows what he’s doing with it comes to caring for them especially since all the birds shown in this video had no problem with him opening up their wings and seem to be at peace within his presence. He also stated, in video, that he’s taken care of crows for quite awhile. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think he said that this crow was gonna be released, either? Or that he’s just doing this so he can let the bird outside unsupervised where things can harm him? Like yea, he lets his birds outside, but I’m fairly certain he has enclosures for animals with disabilities such as Kraa- it’s obvious that Kraa is an indoor bird bc of this flightless problem. ---- This man puts a lot of effort into trying to help his animals or wild animals in need, the ones he cannot care for he turns over to people who can or releases them back into the wild- Kraa here is not meant to be released. While I agree that he could’ve went to go find specifically Crow feathers for the imping, you could tell he did his best to make the feathers fit as much as possible to allow for muscle buildup. it’s also clear that this was not going to long term procedure as he just wanted to build up his muscles for when his next molt comes in so that when he DOES have healthy feathers, he can fly with relative ease. I feel like your heart is in the right place but I don’t think you even looked into this guy’s channel much nor considered that what I mentioned earlier.

It’s not an innovative process. Vets use imping (adding feathers to a damaged or missing bird wing) for pet birds like parrots, and wild birds like crows, owls, hawks etc.

And crows r so smart!!! My 15 month old little girl stood standing at the back window, yelling. " no, no, get away, my da Das wood pile!!! " sure enough when we checked, there was a baby crow sitting there! As we approached slowly, he kind of keeled over onto the ground!!! We thought, oh no, hope he didn't just die...we backed away from him and watched at a distance to c if a momma bird would come to him....whenever he didn't think we were watching, he would lift his head up and loom around! My husband then knew the baby crow was playing "possum"! We gently wrapped him in a blanket and brought him to our enclosed back porch....we checked to make sure he wasn't injured, fed him raw ground hamburger and gave him water.. .he kept playing with the rings on my finger....we gave him a shiny silver spoon and he loved kissing it and "talked" to it....we named him BENJI ...He was so cute, smart and knew his name. Flying onto our shoulders....we could hsnd-feed him and kept him to next spring when we noticed a family of crows calling to him...so we let him out slowly and one day he went off to be with them...he came back to c us from time to time....they love to play with shiny things and he always had fun hiding shiny quarters from my husband...we missed him but never forgot Benji.. .

I doubt it. The feathers need to have certain size and crows are smaller than most birds of prey.

The procedure is called “imping,” and yes, it is used by falconers. They will save their bird’s mounted out flight and tail feathers, and keep the entire set, just in case a feather gets damaged and needs repair. If you look for Wildlife Aide from the UK, they have posted videos of one of their veterinary surgeons doing this entire process for injured wild birds.

this technique is called imping and is very interesting, for long term it would be worthwhile to either collect alot of crow feathers or find a roadkill one off of the road, this will lead to better flight long term. the tail should also be done on him as he will not be able to to a "big fly" without it.

I have a feeling that as a result of using mixed bird feathers from other species, Kraa may not be able to fly completely until he successfully grows his own set. At most, he can probably glide and "fly-hop" better, as seen in the video, but full flight is very hard to achieve without feathers from the same species and very specific measurements. The Wildlife Aid channel has called this technique "imping" and show full videos of the process, but in order to return a wild bird or raptor to the skies, they must be extremely cautious and studious in mimicking the natural form completely. That said, if Kraa was malnourished when he was young, growing a full, non-damaged set of feathers will take at least a few tries based on the rescued toucans at 2Can TV. Beatrix, Jade and Toupac are good examples of this where they were forced to live in completely unsuitable environments with poor diets for an extended period of time. Beatrix now has a full set of intact feathers, but she struggled to attain this for quite a while as she was unable to grow feathers strong and durable enough to remain in place. Disclaimer: I am not a scientist myself, just a very interested bird and biology enthusiast. It's entirely possible I am incorrect about some or all of this as I am only drawing conclusions based on other visual examples. I applaud him for going to such lengths in an attempt to get Kraa airborne again.

@@byrn Oh, I absolutely agree. I'm not trying to discredit or slander the work he has done. This was a very creative and dedicated attempt to give Kraa more freedom and it succeeded very well. I'm just stating that from a realistic perspective, it's a bit much to assume Kraa'll be back to fully flying within the next week or so. It's most likely going to be a couple or several year commitment.

I didn't go into much detail on him as his condition was very complex, but from what I remember, Toupac never managed to grow back an intact set of wing feathers for the duration of his life, unfortunately (RIP Toupac). Thankfully, his life was enriched in other ways to compensate for the lack of flight.

Yeah, I think people are being too optimistic thinking they be able to fly properly with those wings, the feathers move kind of oddly when they flap them, but I'm sure they'll be happy just to be able to fly/glide a bit with them

Well done. Falconers and raptor rehabilitates “splice” feather’s frequently on raptors who damage wing or tail feathers when hunting! Tail and wing feather damage is very common in wild raptors, especially when going after ground/dirt quarry. Falconers also have techniques for building tone and fitness in their birds that might be helpful with a corvid. Good luck!!

Most birds are nervous around humans because they are afraid of sudden movements and most humans make a lot of sudden movements. I have a friend who is a great blue heron and they usually are afraid of people. He has a permanent broken leg (vet says it can't be fixed) and knows my yard is a calm, bird friendly sanctuary. I usually see him two or three times a week. He'll catch a lizard then hop over to wherever I am in my garden and enjoy his meal usually within three or four feet of me. He sometimes gets really close when I am painting a picture and watches. He has let me stroke his head. You can't just walk up to a bird and pet them. Funny thing is that seagulls are usually the brave ones but they will rarely come near me or my yard.

I've seen imping done a few times - a very old skill, developed, I think, to repair broken flight feathers in hunting birds - but not with such a variety of wondeful feathers. Absolutely brilliant! Let's hope Kraa is able to use them properly.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as it's impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus.
