Wing tip vortex formation in smoke tunnel over 3D wing tip

Additional video of flow over full 3D wing • 3D wing showing wingti... . Vortices formed near the tip of airplane wings. You get downwash for positive angle of attack (normal airplane operation), and upwash for negative angle of attack.

The vortices are generated by the high pressure below the wing flowing to the low pressure on top. Since after all, air pressure flows from high to low

This has nothing to do with real world conditions as we are missing spanwise flow from under the wing and approaching the tip. The isolated tip has very gentle flow compared to the spanwise flow in real life situation
