Wingbone Turkey Call - How To Squeal, Cluck & Softly Yelp

A brief overview on how to issue basic hen vocalizations on a homemade wingbone turkey call (mine are made from jake bones) & some tips that might help you use one more confidently in the field ... They're amazingly realistic & once you grasp the general idea of how they work (read: don't over-work the call), they sound fantastic in the turkey woods ... Since incorporating a wingbone into my turkey hunting 2.5 years ago, I've had some incredible very close encounters w/hens especially, but also gobblers ... The pleading, almost whimpering sounds of soft calls on a wingbone are irresistible to turkeys ... I wish I would've been using one of these wingbone calls a much longer time ago -- better late than never!!

ASSEMBLY TIPS: I use a Dremel tool to precisely cut the pieces to size & a knife to whittle/shape/fit the 3 pieces together ... I use clear Gorilla Glue from Dollar General as my adhesive; it takes 24 hours to cure, but it's solid as a rock once it dries ... I shove a toothpick in between the radial bone (mouthpiece) & the middle section to wedge it solidly into place with no movement ...
OPTIONAL: Bow serving string or the inside strands of a paracord are good to use as the wrapping material for the joints ... Braided fishing line would be good to use, too ... To weatherproof & seal the wrappings, once tied on, apply a healthy coat of clear fingernail polish to the string ... Personally, I like how the string dresses the call up & makes for a more professional appearance - even though my main goal is simply to make a field-grade turkey call for hunting purposes ...

yes sir - all my hunting calls (box, slate, mouth & now this wingbone) are homemade now ... the joy & thrill of taking a gobbler with a call you’ve made is very cool 👍🏻😎

Made my first one over 40 years ago.... Any turkey wing will work but wait till you make one from a wild bird and use it to call in your next Tom.... But please note ......*** If you make one use it moderately at first and build up or you will think you have mono or some other terrible throat illness on day two, because you have over used the muscles used to create the suction...*** Trust me....

This is my 3rd year of turkey hunting.. killed a jake last year for my first bird then bought me a wingbone last offseason. Called up and killed my first long beard the 2nd week of the season and ended up calling in 4 gobblers with it in total.. 3 of the 4 were Georgia public land birds
