My son plays left wing in Bantam AA and was really bummed after his game last night because the D kept pinching and he couldn`t get the puck out of the zone. After watching this video, I KNOW I can help him, even if it`s to give him the confidence to remind his centre to support him low as a passing option or to ask his coach about what the plan is when D are pinching on him. Thanks man....you are such an amazing asset to hockey. My son and I will watch this video together after he comes home from school this afternoon.

Glad to hear you found some value in this Jerry, let me know how your son adapts and what solutions he (or his coach) finds most useful to overcome the pinching D.

Great video. My kid has always played center but this year the coach has him as wing. He has struggled at times breaking out. This will help a lot

Thanks for the vid, I am a 2nd year bantam. I’m not on the beat team but at about 5:11 into the video he talks about a problem that really apples to me. You really know what your talking about, this helped me a lot with decision making

Thanks so much for this video. This is my first year playing hockey and I've played center the whole time, got thrown on wing tonight and I had no real idea of what to be doing along the boards.

Thank you so much for this. I was looking for a video about playing left wing as a righty. Saw some but they were not detailed enough, or left out some important things. It’s hard to get the whole picture when someone’s video is just about generalities. Your video was filled with applicable detail for breaking out and I really appreciate it. Thx again.

Great video. My beer league teams can learn a lot from these excellent breakdowns. We come out with speed, and we're fine. We can't do that consistently though ... so, when we are rimming or chipping the puck out, it's always a turn over in the neutral zone and the play is coming right back at us. You're breakdowns here were an "aha!" moment for me as you talk about the weak side wing, and how they can help, for example, when a puck is rimmed to the other side. I realize I need to get moving to that side to get those pucks the other winger chips past their D when our center is caught low.

Thanks this helps a lot. It feels like groundhog day as yet another puck comes rimming around the board to me on the wing just above the circles. I will try these techniques to see if I can get it past the D more often, as right now it gets stuck so often.

I have to say, you explained @3:25, what I've been telling benders for years, "heads down" hockey(caveat - at better levels) is NOT a sign of weakness but playability. Our eye sight allows about 110 degrees of binocular vision, everything else is singular, granular and recognizeable only by reps. Players DO have responsibility to recognize vulnerable situations AND NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE....

How do you flip the puck up on over from a rim pass?
@eliteicehockeyanalysisnorc1824
@eliteicehockeyanalysisnorc1824 6 жыл бұрын
I am guessing your are talking about the rim to half wall play...When skating towards the rimmed puck you have to use your stick like a pitching wedge, you almost have to "pinch" the puck to get it up and over the D man. High skill play but do able for elite level players 14 years old and above.

It is fine to swing lower as a winger on a breakout to get more time and space to make a better play?
@eliteicehockeyanalysisnorc1824
@eliteicehockeyanalysisnorc1824 Жыл бұрын
No right or wrong on this one, if they have a “high guy” or F3 in place and you swing low as a winger…now you will be confronted by that F3 and they will still have a defenseman above you. Essentially the lower you come the more checks or layers you’ll have to fight through. If you have really good support structure/exit strategy you can still being wingers low. It’s easiest to go back and look at the video and sort through these scenarios and see who’s making the check on winners if you’re having trouble getting out of the zone

What is the half-wall?
@eliteicehockeyanalysisnorc1824
@eliteicehockeyanalysisnorc1824 3 жыл бұрын
That’s just a slang term for the area between the hash marks and top of the circles. The general area a winger plays on the breakout. You will also hear used when people are talking about the power-play, there’s usually one player in that area who will distribute the puck down low or up to the D

I’m gonna show my beer team this video to shut them all up. They always get mad at me for being the guy to do exactly what this video teaches. Be the pivot guy. On a breakout we need everyone. Not just that single forward. They expect that winger to always be cutting toward Center ice or driving down the boards. NO. That’s not correct hockey. This breakout step is the most crucial yet so many people just drive it down the boards. TAKE A LOOK HAHAHAHAHA
