The aerobatic display group of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence, the "Wings of Storm" took place at the world's largest air show - the Royal International Air Tatoo at RAF Fairford on 9-10 July 2016.
The Group's performance at the Show has won it the most prestigious of six traditionally presented awards - the “King Hussein Memorial Sword“ - for the best overall flying demonstration - which is presented in memory of HM King Hussein, the long-time patron of the Show. It was presented by his son, Prince Faisal bin Hussein in person.
The Croatian Air Force and Air Defence also displayed a Mi-171Sh of the Multi-purpose Helicopter Squadron of the 91st Air Base.
The Republic of Croatia is the 56th country taking place in this prestigious event.
The 2016 RIAT has seen the first international performance of the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II. The air show attracted some 153,000 spectators, and the distinguished visitors included senior officials, the members of the Royal Family and 36 commanders of the air forces from all over the world. The flying programme and the static display engaged 230 aircraft from 24 air forces. Over 2,000 volunteers were included in the organisation of the event.
The Royal International Air Tatoo is a prestigious event running since 1971. In 2003 it hosted as many as 535 aircraft and entered the Guinness Book of Records. It is considered the world's largest military air show, with a great number of participants, with the military flying groups strongly dominating.
