I think Oceana actually changes the game quite a bit. Nectar being a wild resource alleviates the frustration when the bird feeder isn't rolling what you want, but the new boards also make a big difference. Playing for the most nectar in each row is a new mini game, and your powers are stronger in the early game, which also feels more rewarding.

I wish nectar didn't invalidate berries though. I think the expansion works better with a mix of both sets of dice.

Yeah I feel like he didn’t really review any of the expansions in this and how they fix some core problems with the game especially the egg laying end game issue and the drawing cards and food issue.

I think Oceania is a must have if you enjoy wingspan.. the board spaces are changed and more balanced. Also, the nectar just helps play more birds which is always fun.

Oceania board lowers the value of the take eggs action making it less of an obvious choice in the last round. There are also spaces that allow you to pay to reset the bird feeder or bird tray before you choose one. Also more bird cards that allow you to re-roll the dice or reset the bird tray to help alleviate some of your initial problems with base Wingspan.

I feel like you could have waited a week or two and included the newest expansion which a lot of people are most wanting to hear about now (even though dice tower just released their review today as well). This isn’t my favorite tableau builder either but I enjoy it and use it to introduce people into the hobby very often.

What most elevates Wingspan for me is the app that scans the cards and plays the bird sound.

I do not find any issues with attachment to the cards, and importance of them, nor the randomness of the food and display except in the more drastic of dire situations. I mean, I view wingspan as a game about adaptability. If I get poor luck, or the opponent gets good luck matters not. I just adapt my strategy and find the best options open to me as I go. Very interesting, fun, and tight. You can of course prioritize things, but that should be all that it is. Building a plan with what is in my hand, and only adapting onto it as opportunities arise. Like the end round goals, I never really focus them, Just keep them in mind, and try to include them if possible. I get attached to the engine I am making and what it is capable of pulling off and how I am making all my points, not individual cards. Tons of birds works fine for me, there was no way I would have memorized all them to have that type of familiarity like you said with the dwarfs. Just too many cards, birds at least allow for variety, real world attachments and preferences for specific birds, incorporating already possessed real life attachments to them at the least. I personally love the ducks, and recognize a few here and there. Though that is limited to visual, not names.

Good video. I think you glossed over the European Expansion a bit too quickly. It notably introduces players to End of Round teal powers which can be great ways to set up passive resource/point engines. It also introduces highly impactful birds such as Bonelli's Eagle, Eastern Imperial Eagle, and White Stork.

This is my favorite game to play solo. The expansions, especially Oceania, help to make the decision more varied, making playing cards more rewarding than laying eggs sometimes. I recommend Oceania 100% for anyone into Wingspan

Wingspan has, from my experience, one of the smoothest teaches and learning curves. Explaining the rules and getting into the game is much faster than carcassonne or 7 wonders for example. I thinks it's a fantastic gateway game. I haven't played Splendor and I don't wanna sound like a gatekeeping douche or whatever but even if wingspan is a little harder to get into it has to be worth for the extra depth since it you are still unlikely to drown in it. What elevates wingspan the most is playing terraforming mars instead. Its a 5 out of 10 people. Not bad, not good. Just average with very nice components.

Wow, you spent third of the video complaining about ''only lay eggs at the end" strategy that kills the game for you, and for some reason Oceania that fixes that issues is not making enough for you. Have you played it? Because I do not see how you can missed that if you played more than once.

There are 4 over powered cards in the base game. Kill deer, Franklin gull, common raven and the chihuahuan raven. They break the game.
