A few thoughts. For starters, playing against the awful AI makes this video very difficult to glean practical strategy from, which I'll expand on in further points. -Because the AI is awful, they fed you *crucial* food resources early in the game that would otherwise not have been available to you when playing against real players. -Cards like the Carolina Wren, Mountain Chickadee, and even the Mississippi Kite are cards you would probably want to snag to get at least 2 cards in your Forest that have utility, and also can net you 2 Food + other benefits, depending on the card. My main criticism is that this isn't a video about how to deal with blah starting cards, but rather how to deal with blah starting cards *when food isn't a problem for you.* This is a huge difference in early-game decisions and synergies. Your starting decisions are exactly what I would do, but I wouldn't make subsequent decisions based on the assumption that AI/other players will grant me the convenience of never having to play in the Forest. Just my 2 cents.

I'm with "Return to Reason" on this one, gents. Fun video, but not particularly about playing from behind - especially because the Pied-Billed Grebe is among the better cards in the game. It doesn't really count, in my opinion. I'd love to see another video that talks more strategies, with worse cards and harder AI.

Good call. We hav one we're working on that does exactly that. Basically starting with no food resources which definitely makes it significantly tougher.

Thank you for this, I learnt quite a fair amount in this video, this is a great concept. However, would like to see one with a worse starting hand than this. As mentioned, the pied-billed grebe is a pretty good card and it set up your options quite nicely.

Just started playing Wingspan on Steam a couple days ago. I only played 2 player AI with an average in the 70's. After watching your videos I achieved a high score of 86 on 2 player and 108 on 4 AI players! Btw the settings were at normal. Thanks for your thoughtful instruction! I'm awaiting the board game, should arrive end of week. I've also ordered Cascadia which should have a similar feel with somewhat less depth, hoping to encourage play with the family.

You need to use the strategy using the oceanic nector board which changes the strategy on how many birds you will keep and that you start with six food instead of 5.

I've only played it a couple times but it makes it waaaay easier to play birds! As you can get nectar which works as a wild. It's easier to get more cards and food early game but a little harder to get a lot of eggs though.

I got 122 with a House Finch + Red-winged Blackbird by using a tucking strategy which worked after I got a Killdeer, then a Crow, then the Catbird.
