It’s actually rather odd that Winifred’s spell is so specific that it requires a virgin to light a candle on Halloween when the full moon is out. That’s a lot of factors that go into it; no wonder it took 300 years, but I always wondered, what if a non-virgin lit the candle or they tried to light it on any other night other than Halloween or when it was Halloween but it wasn’t a full moon? I always wondered if in those scenarios would the candle just not light? It also made the nerd in me wonder when the next full moon on Halloween occurs and it’s coming up in 2020 which also happens to be a Saturday. This is what happens when you’ve seen a movie probably 20+ times, you start picking apart all the little details.

The father found the body of his daughter. Emily died. After that, he was hoping that his son would be alive. He questioned and yelled at the witches for an answer. They refused to answer him before he hanged them. It's just very sad that the father didn't know that they had turned his son into a cat.
