For Mac Users (this may have been said already) I finally found a way to run WinISD. Wine and WinBottler are free programs that have been recommenced to run WinISD without the hassle of virtual machines, bootcamp, parallels, etc. But for me, both of those program wouldn't run properly but simply not opening, or quitting/crashing when trying to load WinISD under advance options, respectively. Nearly giving up, I found Wine-Stable (Wine-Stable 7 the most recent version, but Wine-Stable 5 is what worked for me. I could be wrong, but during install I selected both 32 bit and 64 bit as an option. After installing Wine-Stable 5, I am finally able to run WinISD on my Macbook Pro, without having to pay for a windows subscription. I hope this helps anyone with a Mac!

Your subsonic filter can greatly reduce air velocity which allows the use of a smaller port. I set my subsonic filter at the subs f3, but some also recommend setting at 2-3Hz below tuning, or one half octave below tuning.
@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. I've got a video on setting an account infrasonic filter, I never thought about the impact the filter would have on port noise. But if you're cutting the signal you're going to be cutting the port noise as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4i1oHyepJx0bcU
@7Logik
@7Logik Жыл бұрын
A few hz below tuning is still cutting audible frequencies , a ported enclosure still plays below tuning , my box is tuned at 33hz but I still get audible notes at 28hz no way I would cut it at 32 or 31hz......imhave mine set at about 20-22hz that's much more reasonable
@fd1596
@fd1596 Жыл бұрын
@7 Logik Well it also depends on the slope (6db, 12db, 24db, etc.) applied power, type of subs, enclosure size, and type of music you're playing (Rock, Hip Hop, Rebassed, etc.). The crossover filter doesn't just abruptly cut off frequencies, but it rolls them off at a given rate depending on the slope. So with a 33Hz tuning if the filter was set at 30Hz with a 12dB slope you would still be able to play 28Hz with no problem. The lowest recommended is 1/2 octave below tuning which would be 24.75Hz at 33Hz tuned.

Thanks for your videos! Using WINISD I learned that my particular subwoofer will play louder in all low bass frequencies in a smaller(1cu ft) sealed enclosure than in a 1.5cu ft. ported one. The TS of my sub indicated that it leans more towards a sealed sub than ported so this makes sense. The math doesn't lie as long as all the subwoofer information is properly filled in! Also I had port velocities up to 30m/s at tuning with the ported which isn't terrible but definitely not optimal. I just wish I could share my graphs.

@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy 3 жыл бұрын
I am not an expert on amplifiers, but from what I gathere damping factor is a way to express how well an amplifier controls the cone movement. It's one of those things that's important up to a point. Like everything else with audio there are diminishing returns.
@sittdogg
@sittdogg 3 жыл бұрын
@@DIYAudioGuy appreciate the reply. Its one of those im not even sure if or how they can measure it. Strage thing I've noticed when playing with the meter is that seems good damping seems more efficient with spl. Ya you can gain a db going to half ohm or whatever. But at the cost of 2x the amperage draw and sloppy cone control. but also not the case always.

Unfortunately ti looks like WinISD doesn't take Le or semi-inductance into consideration, both of which will appreciably change the response at bass frequencies for today's long x-max, high-power car audio woofers, particularly if they don't have "shorting rings" in the motor. That's why I prefer to use Hornresp for design work. Hornresp is a bit more difficult to understand though - which is why I developed my BOXPLAN Excel workbooks - just choose the one that matches the box you'd like to build, and it chucks out the corresponding Hornresp parameters :-)

Please HELP anyone! I've built myself a sealed subwoofer that has an internal volume of 20 liters (2.5 cm thick, 32 cm wide, 30cm tall and 36 cm length, all external measurements). I've used the Ground Zero GZIW 200 driver (8") , and for this driver the manufacturer actually recommends a 17 liter vented enclosure with 1 single port ( 7cm , 2.76" wide, 24cm, 9.45" long). It being sealed sounds great, especially since it's in use in a quite small room, thucked under my desk , but i'm curious about converting this box to a ported one and thus increase the output. I've been playing in WinISD, tried to figure out what tune frequency i'd want (listening mostly to music) so i "decided" on a 30 hz, but i don't get it based on that ISD reports back, just what specs should this port have. I chose a round shaped port which i'm going to 3d print, but for a 10.2 cm port (which i'd find right considering the size of the box), it said 128.36 cm long, that's 3 times the length of the actual box. Also, 1st port resonance is 133, 88, is that good, bad, unknown? Could i also make multiple ports in order to cut down on the required length? What do i do? Thanks, i love subwoofers and audio generally speaking, and i'm also into DIY wherever i can, but getting the basics here doesn't seem that straight forward unfortunately.. :(

I have only ever run an older version (0.44) and it is a completely different than the new one you just showed. Part of the reason being that the new one's auto fill for the T/S parameters screws up sometimes. Manufacturer will have one spec one way and winisd will say its wrong. You'll need to find a way to measure the TS parameters, the date and audio dats is the way to go. You can pick one up from parts express. If you use my discount code diy5 they will cut you a little price break. Without that information you are just guessing. May as well just throw it in a half cubic foot box to into about 40 hertz.

I designed a box to 25Hz but to get the port noise down I selected the option to use 2 ports. Winisd says the ports need to be 69cm long, does this mean I need 2x 69cm long ports or is it 2x35cm ports? The length of the port doesnt change in Winisd based on the number of ports used so I dont know if I need the total length of all the ports combined to be what Winisd recommends or if they all need to be the full 69cm length.

Honestly i have a lot of trouble in this area. I really need a custom box but completely suck at getting the right size that fits. Also I've used mostly sealed enclosures since the 90s. The last few years im using ported an to me they are not producing the bass i was getting back then. Yet i hear these ported enclosures are supposed to offer up more bass. Definitely not from prefabs.

Convert to cuin by multiplying by 1728 (say 2 cuft * 1728 = 3456 cuin). Then pick to dimensions (ie. 12" tall and 24" wide) Multiply those together (288). Then divide (3456/288) to get the depth (12). Hope that helps.

@@DIYAudioGuy In _my_ experience, having the software do the auto calculations is exactly what causes issues. Small "workaround" tricks that I've learned: 1.) Entering values in any other tab than the "Parameters" section can trigger an error, so while less "information about the naming of the speaker" will be available, keeping that info out allows for less erroring. 2.) After every value put in, regardless of the order in which you enter them, attempt to "Save" the project (you don't actually _have to_ save, just click the button to see if an error comes up that'd prevent you from being able to save). Then, backing out of the save and entering in your next value... This procedure can show you exactly when, where, and how the program doesn't like something you've done, and you can start to get a feel for what _not_ to do in the future to avoid errors from happening, like enabling "auto calculate".

Try to let WinISD auto-calculate as many of the parameters as possible. Just have to enter them slowly and give it a chance to update. Other than that there is not much else that can be done. But, WinISD will run even if the parameter check fails.

What could be the problem with the failed integrity check? I have entered all the ts parameters but it still fails! Awesome video as always!
@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy 3 жыл бұрын
It could be anything, it could be down to a rounding error or the parameters provided to you by the manufacturer might be wrong. When I enter my parameters I'm always very careful to make sure that the software has an opportunity to auto-calculate. Take the QTS, QMS and QES. WINisd Will let you enter in all three, I enter two of them, and then click in some other random field and the software will update. But if I enter the first two and then click on the third one and type it in then the software will not auto calculate. Hope that helps.

The manufacturer may have provided incorrect TS parameters. That happens. I have found that if you type a number in and then click into a different field, and then give it a second to update before you start typing the next number, the auto calculation will keep me from having integrity check errors. I've also found that the software will run if you have integrity check failures, not sure how reliable the results will be.
