Bill shoots his 60 yard group and updates us on the "Lifetime Project" he has been working on all summer. Next, he heads to a spot he calls the "Open Gate", to create a scrape post with the thought of bringing the Big 8 pointer into bow range later this fall.

I have had some really good bucks here over the recent years that I would love to find back. I will enjoy hunting that Heavy 8 Pointer but I would just enjoy seeing what some of those other deer look like now. Hopefully I can find them when I get the cameras out and bring bring them to you here. -Bill

Really enjoy your videos. I hunt in Kansas but live in Texas and don’t get to do all the early season prep that I would like so I live vicariously through you guys during August and September lol

I’ve had good success zip tying some eastern red cedar branches to my mock scrape branches. Seems like they can’t leave it alone. It also can be a good way to liven one up later in the season.

Hey Bill, put a red or orange fletch off an old arrow and pin it to the center of your target. It will give you a aim point, it should help tighten up your groups at distance. Good luck.
@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs
@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs 5 жыл бұрын
At 60 yards the head of my pin more or less covers the entire center of the target when I am aiming. I think I would get target panic if tried to aim much smaller than that. On shorter shots your idea would be awesome. -Bill

Bill , What scents do you use in your mock scrap?
@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs
@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs 5 жыл бұрын
I haven't decided yet. I may just start it by exposing the dirt and then taking a leak in it to see if the deer adopt it. If not, I will have to select a scent and maybe use a dripper for a week, or so. -Bill

We all know you're an amazing shot, you'll be fine once you get a giant in range he's dead 98% of the time.

Hey bill, just curious as to why you don’t just put in concrete? You can get very decorative and creative with concrete these days. If you are interested in some ideas, I have a few.
@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs
@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs 5 жыл бұрын
Kyle, it has been really hard to find any kind of contractor here - regardless of what you are trying to build. I think the pavers will look good, (I know they will), but I would have done concrete if I thought I could get someone out here. Also, though I complain about it, I really do enjoy doing it. -Bill

Was that a cider post you use on your scrape?
@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs
@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know for sure. I don't think so. It was just a treated post that I got from the Co-op, but cedar would likely work better. Bucks do love to rub on cedar. - Bill

You didn’t offset your retaining wall blocks! Looked like seams in the tiers. Better rip it all down and start over

@@midwestwhitetaildailyblogs probably be fine since it didnt look very tall. If it was a larger wall I'd redo. BTW it's looking good, keep it up and get it finished before season starts

I spent four hours yesterday and three more today. Circle kit is in and I am building around that. I will show the progress in the next video blog. Drew (our son) really wants to start a smaller paver walk-way/patio business for summer work going through college so I may help him do that. We need a better source of stones. We are using Menards right now and their selection is very limited. -Bill

Ah. You’ll be alright. You’re probably talking about geo-grid. We use It on walls over 4ft., every 3 ft. No taller than that wall Is you won’t need to worry. On taller walls it helps structural integrity, but on walls u see 2-3’ it’s mainly aesthetic. Looks good tho. I recommend gatorsand for Your polymeric sand between pavers. You should be able to find it most masonry or hardscape stores.
