Monopoly is a tough one to adapt for TV just because the game is pretty complex by design, while TV games typically you have to keep it simple.

Marc Summers, in my opinion, is the best candidate to host a monopoly game.

Well he has the advantage right out of the gate that he knows the game like the back of his hand. The only minor mistake I noticed was when he said the rent for boardwalk was $50 when it was supposed to be $200 but he corrected himself right away. But in terms of the board game he would have been right.

LOL - I know this was for an example show, but in the bonus round when she rolls a 12, you can clearly see that it was staged based on where the dice 'originally' went. LOL

Actually not too bad. I'm glad they got rid of the tokens and had everyone go around the board at the same time for the final show, but definitely should have kept the "acquisitions" to a random draw with the same "takeover" abilities in order to get more gameplay in there.

Marc Summers was also considered to host daytime Wheel of Fortune on CBS along with John Davidson, Chuck Henry, Bob Eubanks and Pat Finn, but Bob Goen was hired instead.

Interesting way to play the game. With a few tweaks to the end game, that part survived into the aughts version of the game.

With 2 players doesn't always take that long but once you get more people involved yes it takes forever! Back when I was in elementary school Friday afternoons used to be devoted to clubs, I was in a board games club, someone always brought Monopoly and it became such a pain because we could never finish a game in one afternoon. Risk had the same problem.

Didn't Peter Tomarken also do a pilot?

Yes. He did one that was meant for daily syndication in 1990, but it wasn't picked up. Supposedly, Tomarken didn't get along with the production staff, so when the show was ultimately picked up by ABC for weekly primetime, they went with Mike Reilly, a former Jeopardy! champion, as host.

He did do one intended for syndication. However, that was the one that became a weekly primetime series in the summer of 1990, and one of the contestants from that pilot became the host.

Who ever did the sweetening and extra sfx did an horrible job as it drowns out the announcer in the opening and some don't even fit the time period in which this was released. This almost seems Raymond Rohaueresque.

It had made it on the air but it's on every Saturday night on ABC in 1989 but different set and rules

The format isn't bad. If they would have kept the same format as when you fought for control of a monopoly in Rileys version to get control.

This version just did not do the trick. Marc was a great host and should do a version if they would pick him up for it. The gameplay was just not there for me. I dont know how to make it interesting though because Monopoly is not an easy game to translate to TV. Other board games are absolutely easy to bring to TV but Monopoly just doesnt work in any real form on TV.
