Jason, you always seem to surprise me with the capability that APRS has. I just a local ham buddy if mine helped me with a 2m yagi build and I’m able to receive and hit a digipeater that I want to say is maybe 15-16 miles away. I had seen your videos about getting local weather reports through APRS and now being able to get winlink messages. That’s some pretty rad stuff. Thanks for sharing this.

I've been playing with this for about a week now. I tried my hand at making a nice little laminated card with all of the command features to keep in a card holder on the back of my ht. It didn't come out as nice as I'd hoped but I didn't see any available on Etsy lol. I really thought the password login feature was a very clever design. Thanks for the great video! 🤙🤙

What special configuration does the iGate need to make this work? I didn't know this was a normal part of APRS.

Love it. Been using digpi to setup a WINLINK rms + digipeater + bbs. Kinda know where everything goes now . Might switch over to Linux 73 now that I’m familiar. Have been unable to get WINLINK rms to work only use my station to digepeat or connect to cms over bbs. Must be something in craigers rmsgw scripting .

I assume I'm correct in thinking that all of this happens "in the open"? Hence the need for the scrambled password? In theory anyone within receiving distance would also be able to read your email messages, what you send, and potentially fake being you and send messages once you're logged in? Still very useful for sure, just trying to be aware of any limitations.

Winlink is always in the open.

@KM4ACK Fair point 😆 I guess my bigger concern was the ability for someone to early send a message that appears to have come from you once you've done the login procedure.

For sure! Any radio or device, capable to send and receive APRS messages and in area of a TX IGate , directly or via a DigiPeater

I use this with my vg-c7500 in the car. Works pretty slick being able to type stuff out on my android phone instead of ht. The option on the ht is also fun. So long as the messages are real short lol
