I previously owned the Kenwood TS-590S, but I've since upgraded to the Yaesu FTDX10 because the FT-710 wasn't available at the time. Living in the suburbs, I've found that the Kenwood TS-590S struggles with QRM (radio interference), particularly in my location where there are power lines and solar panels. The interference was quite severe. Switching to the FTDX10 has been a significant improvement. Its noise reduction (NR) features and various control knobs effectively mitigate the interference issues. As a CW (Morse code) operator, I particularly appreciate the 300 Hz CW filter on the FTDX10, which helps me pull in even the weakest signals. Nearly 50% of my QSO I could not have with the Kenwood 590s due to QRM, with the FTDX 10, these 50% are receivable...Bottom line. DE NN2X / Tom

Yea but I guarantee most of those that your using all that filtering to hear you are never going to reach unless you have a beam antenna, on a vertical almost no chance since propagation usually goes equal both ways so unless he has a DX10 as well he's not hearing you but I do agree the receive is nice.

One step better, I think if they put out a 200 watt radio that would be one step higher in power than almost everyone else, similar to the g90 vs 5watt QRP radios. If it was priced at at around 700-800 I bet they would sell a ton of rigs.
@ts440s19 күн бұрын
Yes they would but need to add uhf vhf. Even if they just did 50 watts and included unf vhf and tuner but the price would have to be like 650 and they would really take a chunk out of the market. It's almost like these companies or the big two have coluded with others not to make radios that do everything including a scanner that's fast. I truly believe they want people to buy multiple radios and if they could they would make all monobands like yeasu just did. You can't tell me a monobander made any sense in 2024.

Inflation from the 70’s is a factor of 8X for today’s costs. My first HF Xcvr, FT-101E, was listed at $749 (without the cooling fan option), or an equivalent of $3000 today. That will buy you a FTdx101D today (adding in the E’s optional fan) and its orders of magnitude better in Quality, Features, TX, and especially RX. You can say the same for the FT-710 at 1/3rd the adjusted prices. I’m happy these company's put in so much effort to bring us cutting edge radios at comparatively low prices in our niche market. I feel that the current prices are in line, and realize that they sell to a World Wide marketplace, therefore they can’t make everyone’s dream radio a reality. With the economy like it is how long will they put in the effort to continue to do so if they aren’t making enough of a profit that justifies their effort, without putting up with so many complaining that they didn’t get a customized radio to fit their whims at that time? IMHO, Our strength as a species is our ability to out-think, adapt and overcome. The manufacturers are doing the best they can without making a customized radio for each international market, which would probably double (or more) the MSRP for each radio. I bet even then you wouldn’t be happy. IF you can’t adapt to our radio’s Modern improvements, maybe that's evolution's way of saying that You should go extinct. EVERYTHING about life includes Change over time, the inability to keep up with changes means You will be left behind. As apparently you are. Damn, one of the most honest videos I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch about the Ham Radio hobby and how we are being treated so badly by the so called,”Big 3”, which is more like the big 4,5 and 6! For over 10 years, the Ham radio community has begged, pleaded and prayed for a compact and lightweight “Shack in a box” rig like a 120 watt version of the Xiegu G90 for SOTA and POTA. 😢 Yes, call it the Xiegu G120 that has all the HF band including 6 meters along with 2m,220mhz and 70cm. Built in tuner, SWR, and antenna analyzer with SDR Waterfalls and never requires a stupid computer update unless it can be done via Bluetooth on an iPhone. This rig must be designed to be waterproof also. I should have a built in MMDVM for digital modes along with a set version of FLDigi and not a dozen updates a year! 🤬 It should have an attachable 16.5 volt battery like on the PMR 171 and a built in speaker in the hand mic like on the PRC 77, which looks like a flatten out telephone receiver mic. It should have two TNC antenna connectors for the Abbree flat whip antennas on the face plate so that this rig with fit perfectly into a 30L Mollie or an ALICE Pack as a Manpack set up and have built in fans for cooling to be ready to use in the field. With a built in solar controller for LifePO4 or Lead Acid batteries. It should have a built in compass and APRS, the ideal military type rig that is ready to use in the field for the ultimate EmComm radio for disasters, SOTA, POTA, LOTA or ready to use for coast watcher duties like the Australian Army did during WWII against the Empire of Japan and today for the Empire of China in WWIII beginning in 2027 as per the Big Diaper Biden agreement with China just a few months ago on the US national news over the disputed South Freedom Sea and their stupid “Nine Dash Line!” I am tired of seeing new transceivers the size of kitchen sinks for an RV that would be impossible for a SOTA Activations unless you’re Jack Reacher! 🤬

I have a question about the 710. Is it normal when using DNR to hear some crackling while someone is talking. I notice it between 2-7 at 8 it goes away. I don't have a lot of experience maybe it's normal. Also, just experimenting with settings I notice that if I use notch with NB I get weird static. Do you experience any of this? Thank you.
@hamradiohack20 күн бұрын
Yes. Mine does this. The NB usually makes strong signals sound odd also. Thats common on most radios. Typically the notch will remove carriers and hetreodyne and what not but might not remove it without doing odd artifacts. The dnr i leave at like 3 or 5. Depending on the radios firmware. Early firmware dnr was not good. I bought my 710 around sept 2023. So whatever it shipped with is what i have. The one at hro has never been updated and its bad.

I’m normally not a fan of DNR on SSB _but_ I’ve found if I turned up the DNR super high, the cracking mostly goes away. I suspect the solar flares are adding crap to the higher HF bands because I don’t hear it on 20m. Max out your DNR and see if it helps. The DNR works really well on CW but for SSB, I only run minimum or maximum because I hate the under water effects. I’m 77/100 towards Mobile DXCC so I need intelligible SSB…having doubt about the 891’s capabilities after 3 years of use.

The fact that people try to put these radios into the same audio category as broadcast radios is hilarious insanity.. The whole idea of narrowing your audio is to get focused intelligible voice communications and Yaesu does this well across their entire line of radios.. I used to have a gold label TS-830 that had that studio quality sound especially on AM which I used like twice in the 10 years I used that rig.. Electret mic elements are simple and can be adjusted to sound as good as an expensive crystal ceramic element for what they are.. I have an MC-60 and a studio mic but connecting them to a modern radio like my ftdx-3000 just makes no sense.. I use an old video game headset the skullcandy SGS that I got for $5 and it sounds like a $300 Heil..

I don't believe the big three major ham manufacturers have screwed hams, but it is true that ham radio is a niche market. We should be grateful they are still putting R&D money into making new radios for the hobby at all. Both Icom and Yaesu are very conscious of their founding roots in ham radio. Kenwood clearly seems to be losing interest in our hobby. Icom's bread and butter is in commercial products. Yaesu is a much smaller, non-public company, but I'm sure they make much more money selling their marine radios and aviation handhelds. All of them use ham radio for R&D and as a test bed for innovations in their commercial products. Where there is a product niche left unfilled, some new startup can come along and fill it.

@@ts440s Realistically, we have all the Asian radio manufacturers to thank for any major ham radio industry surviving at all. If there was real money to be made in ham radio, there would be major American companies doing it. I remember Drake and Collins pulling out of the hobby. I remember the last gasps of Hallicrafters and Hammarlund which never made a successful transition out of the vacuum tube era. I can remember Swan. When was the last time TenTec sold a radio? Now even MFJ has shut its doors. There are still some boutique manufacturers stateside filling a niche, but they are not major companies like Icom or Yaesu are. I would put Flexradio in the boutique category. It has a following, but it not playing the game at the same level as Icom or Yaesu. The Chinese are good at filling the low-end with low-cost QRP radios, oddball generic stuff, and bootleg Icom and Yaesu knockoffs. Some very interesting SDR products are coming from Russian designers despite current political events, and it seems there is innovation going on in Europe. Most of us still look to Icom and Yaesu as the real radio companies, and we buy them, but the marketplace always has room for competition. Even Icom and Yaesu started off as boutique ham radio manufacturers. Where there is enough demand, somebody will sense opportunity.

Dude…what made you think that you had the temperament to do KZbin Videos? Nothing personal, but I disagree with most of what you say and found your tendency towards profanity ridiculous. You’re such a bitter individual. So much so that I concentrated on your ranting, rather than the video. BTW, I love my two DX10’s and I may just pick up a 7300 for the sake of it. 😁 Good luck!

8k subs say you dont know much. You are the minority here. Im not some softass snowflake. I dont sugar coat stuff. I dont bs or lie. I tell it how it is. Im not politically correct and and i dont care about your feelings. And neither does anyone else watching. Its not about what you feel. Not all hams are scared and nerdy. Some of us dont care. Thanks for watching but shut the door when you leave.

@ lololol! As expected…you never fail to please. Door closing Swifty…before I go….I recognize you as the HAM that drives people away from the hobby. Sad little, angry man and guess what? I don’t care about any of your BS either. Catch you later bottom feeder.
