Bought the 2018 year model of this trailer. Love it, in every way. I pull my 2018 1706FB with a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan, with the OEM Mopar Class 3 tow package...and get with the trailer packed out for a road trip, (in Ontario, Canada), 13.5-14.5 mpg at 60 mph on the highway, on Cruise Control. You always get the best mileage from your car or truck, if you let the Cruise Control computer, do fuel calculations and not your slow to react, foot. So, very happy with my tow mileage, and it pulls like a dream with using a Reese V5 weight distribution hitch, with anti-sway control built in. Like you, the only complaint, I have with my unit...and it is not a Winnebago induced complaint...is that yes...the Dometic 13,500 BTU air-conditioner, can be quite loud, in fan operation. But...I realize that you are running it in a restricted-of-sense, space...but like you...two nights or days in...and my brain acclimatized to the sound...and it no longer bothers me. Only when I have some guests, but...as far as it working...WOW...what a job...we had a real-feel day two weeks ago of 94 F...and inside the RV...it was an awesome humidity-free 72 degrees (which I feel comfortable at. The floor plan is great for one or two up RVing...and the fact that you DO NOT have to worry about the eventual cost of a slide out...in repair...or just the maintenance, is a great feature. You have plenty of room between the non-moving dinette and the kitchen/fridge space...to move freely back and forth between the Queen bed, and the bathroom. Lots of room to change your clothes, from day to night wear...and the Dinette will sleep one adult, or two children, 12 year old or younger. Another last thought...for a young couple that right now does not have one or two children...this is the perfect coach. For when you do have a couple of kids....you are good to go with them sleeping on the converted Dinette. When they lose interest (they all do!) around 14 years old and on...no need to downsize...and your RV, has been paid for by then, for years and years. This 7 foot wide, 3180 pounds dry...trailer is MEANT, to tow across the Nation, if you should wish to. It will not bankrupt you in fuel costs...at 20 feet, stem to stern, you can camp even on sites meant for tents...and won't be locked out of sites, because you can't jack-knife into cramped restricted ones...and-----> not too many people when looking at trailer lengths..give that much thought! I have seen many camping families having to leave the trailer park, because they on their tour, could not find a suitable campsite/lot to back their 27-35 footer into. Anyways...keep the yearly updates, coming...and I as a co-owner, will enjoy reading them! Cheers...

@Walter V. Absolutely not...but you do need a good quality equalizer hitch. Also, if you have the Mopar O.E.M tow package on your Caravan, then you will also have pneumatic load leveler(s), that do a fine job of (along with the weight distribution/equalizer hitch) leveling the Caravan AND the 1706FB perfectly level. The other thing I suggest, for best use of the Dodge Grand Caravan, is to NEVER use the ECO setting, AND....always start off slowly, and allow the engine and v-6 torque to carry you up to (if on the highway, no more than 60 MPH) cruising speed. That way, you will not put undo stress on the front wheel drive, and the velocity joints. Once I get to my 55/60 mph on the highway, I set the Caravan to Cruise (60) and let the computer do the talking. So...yes...you can tow this trailer to the max pull weight of the Caravan 3,800 lbs...and if you allow for time to let the transmission 'take' you gently up to your final speed...whether 40 or 60 MPH...you will have a great experience. The main point to remember...is to GENTLY apply gas upon starting up...as that will not over-stress the tranny, and the constant velocity u-joints of the front wheel drive. Once at 40 or 60 MPH, the V-6 has no problem maintaining those (for example) speed goals.

Hi Robert - you might consider changing the orientation of new closet door (and perhaps the one below it) so it hinges on the right and opens from the left. This should be easy to achieve. By doing this it will not interfere with your light and it will also not interfere with the walkway to the entrance door..... just a thought ...

Robert I love this video - first one I've watched of yours. I'd like to pass on a kind of 'hack' about your awning poles and how you said you were always hitting your head on it. I know the feeling - my friend's RV was the same way for me and I'm SHORT lol. Okay, here's the hack: go to Walmart or Kmart and buy a few of those pool 'noodles' (long, and made out of soft padding of some sort, I'm sure you've seen them). What you do is measure the poles that you want covered (I'd get the thick ones if they have them). After you figure out how many feet you need to cover buy them, and when you get them home take a sharp knife or scissors that will cut through that stuff (or cutting tool you prefer) and run a straight line all the way down but don't SLICE IT IN HALF! It's meant to slide OVER the poles so that they are padded. MAKE SURE YOUR CUTTING LINE IS STRAIGHT - mark it with a Sharpie waterproof pen. I watched a video here somewhere about this and it was an awesome idea. No more headaches or bumps on the head! Plus you can choose the color or colors you like and right now (end of summer, beginning of fall) most pool supplies are on sale right now everywhere. I plan to do this with mine. It's so simple, and they slide right one and off so easily. So long to banging your head every time you forget to duck, LOL! I hope this explanation is clear, I think it is. Happy and safe travels to you!
@TravelingRobert7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, that's a great hack

If you haven't resealed your exterior trim, running lights, etc., it's past time to do it. Use Geocel Proflex instead of silicone. There are several KZbin videos that show how, but some mistakenly use silicone, so ignore that part. Proflex is so easy to use. Just wet your finger with detergent & water to smooth it out. On the roof, of course, use Dicor self-leveling caulk. But you already know about that.

Robert, I see you got to Markham Park. We finally got back down to S. Florida three weeks ago and stayed a couple of nights there. Not the same place it used to be. There were a lot more trees and shade. Oh, well. The park has a lot to do but the campground is nothing special. Not bad and serves a purpose. The roof vent would be helpful to you. The Fantastic Fan Ultra Breeze ones are pretty good but be sure to get the bug screen as well to prevent any Wasps, etc from building a nest in it. If you ever see a Candy Apple Red pulling a great/ black micro Mini similar to yours, be sure to say hi.

I actually bought a 1706FB mainly due to your videos which I like a lot. Looking back I just cant like that small shower. I wish I would have bought the 2106FBS which is perfect in small size and has a slide out. Unfortunately, my depreciation is so much I can not justify trading it in this year. Things I do not like at all. Shower size, Gray water tank size, no suspension on the trailer, weak back bumper ( I had to have mine welded), speakers in and out are useless. I have added a webooster, wifi extender, usb plugs, 12 volt plugs, 30lb tanks, two batteries, just to name a few.

Robert, love your channel - so glad I found it. You mention how terrible the speakers are. I would think it would be easy enough to replace them with something higher quality since they are already wired and in place, just remove the speaker covers (not always as easy as it sounds), unscrew old speakers and screw new ones in place. Have you considered doing that? Probably the Jensen head unit is part of the problem as well - that would be a more expensive upgrade, but may be worth considering if you like to listen to music in and around your travel trailer. Keep up the awesome shows!

FYI they calibrate those sensors to be shy on purpose. People tend to use waste tanks even after they say full, and drain water from water tanks even if it says it is very close to empty, so they just set the sensors to report incorrectly to protect people from themselves ;-)

Hi Robert I appreciate your video's, I have the same trailer and problem with hitting my head on the awning frame. I found a partial solution by tying a bright fluorescent green piece of para cord to the frame where I usually bump my head. My peripheral vision sees it hanging down and warns me to duck before I hit the metal frame. The cord hangs only about 6 inches. I remove it when I roll up the awning so it doesnt get tangled or jam up the works.

Diana....I am sure Robert bought the shower head through Amazon, from a quick glance I don't see it in the links in the description. So, just click on the "do me a solid if you buy from Amazon use this link" then just search for the Oxygenic shower head.

Hi Robert, Hello from Jensen Beach Florida. Like you I have a mini TT, keystone Passport 151ml. Have been watching your videos and they are always very entertaining and informative. Have you made any upgrades to your battery. At this time I only have one marine deep cycle battery that unit came with and not sure if I should add another or go with 6 volt. Any suggestions.

Robert, How much was the base cost when new? I don't mean to be nosey, just new to this lifestyle. Thanx it looks to be a complete unit.

They had it advertised for $16,600. They've gone up in price a lot in the past 4 years. I just did an updated review which I will upload next week.

It does an amazingly good job in the small camper, but it is loud.

Hi Robert. Love your videos. I also have a 1706FB but the 2016 model . I tow it with a Nissan Frontier V6. I'm wondering how you did the 12V wiring inside the trailer? I would like to have 12V inside.

Thank you. Mine came with a 12V outlet by the TV. I ran a cable behind the stereo, through the small storage area below it, under the door threshold, and put an outlet where the dinette used to be. You can also run a 12V cable from any of the light fixtures.

Thanks for the fast reply. My Jensen tv is 120V and so is the outlet by it. However the Jensen entertainment center is 12V . I will search more closely around there and also consider the light fixtures.
