I have been traveling since I was 5 so 0ver 50 years.For the last 15 years I looked at RV designs and the level of creativity and use of space was disappointing. The Camper HC1 is on the right track due to it's light weight and versatility. For 2019 I'm creating a camper called the telescoping camper to meet the needs of my wife and I. It starts with a new Ram 1500 regular cab and 8' box. Then a four wheel pop up camper with a fridge,washroom compost $ 1,600 air vented and storage . Then the cargo is a high light top at 10 fet long and 7 feet wide and 9' 5" high. The top of the cargo has 4 doors outside for fishing gear and out door gear ...life jackets etc. The front of the cargo has to telescope from cargo to meet the back of the pop up camper like a space capsule. The front is 12 feet of kitchen or 45 square feet to cook and panda wasker on wheels. the back is a full washroom compost 35 square feet and like the Camper HC1 we extend a back floor 6x7 and slide out the fiberglass walls and roof and door ....can be a shower room or extra sleeping if I snore.....LOL THE BEST PART is that we can double axle carry .......200 gallons + grey tanks. We can detatch the truck and just go explore for a night or 2 with the kitchen tent.

We were looking for a light weight camper and happened to see this camper. It is a good fit for what we want. The model HC1 IN VENICE BREEZE, costs $56,999. We thought there was a mistake. Our dream of camping stopped there.
@joeuncoolio7 жыл бұрын
When I was watching this I couldn't stop thinking this is one of the greatest and most innovative ideas in campers I have ever seen. Then you said they start at around $19k, I literally choked on my dinner. A camper like this has to start at 5k empty and run up to 10k depending on your options and the modular pieces you put in it. Excellent idea, get the manufacturing costs down.
@sarahhall79347 жыл бұрын
can you get a frig ?
@davidwollpert52765 жыл бұрын
joeuncoolio if you pay 5k for a new camper you’ll get complete junk. Be careful about asking people to get the manufacturing costs down, because you might get what you ask for. I’d rather have them build a quality product for a bit more money, and let the bargain seekers buy used.
@christopherrecord55565 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I think the manufacturers and distributors price these things artificially high because they know they can be financed for extended terms. Many consumers only look at the monthly payment which may seem really reasonable when amortized over 15 or 20 years. Will the camper last that long? Many don't. So it's kind of a financing scam.
@qaz92585 жыл бұрын
@Christopher durability is the main factor I consider and looking at the scamp they last a long time. Considering these look like they are built the same I imagine would be quite durable. at least not as rot prone as the wood ones are. @joeuncoolio same thing about the fiberglass making it far more durable. These have a dual insulated sandwiched hull. Bit of cost there. So looking at just the trailer itself with double hull, insulation, windows, upper cabnets, lower benches, wiring, fan, drains, floor system, side door, gullwing back door I would say that alone is going to be what you are paying for. Just need to know what cubes are included.
@OOICU8124 жыл бұрын
I'd pay 10K for a new empty shell on wheels.

I live in a 13' long by 7' wide 1962 Raptor camper trailer. It weighed 1,900 lbs empty the day I bought it and took it to the scale for registration. It gets better.. I live at 8990' elevation in Wyoming, all year. Love it. These old trailers have 2" of wool felt insulation in the walls. I insulated the floor with foam underneath between the frame rails and built a snow roof over the top (we get 200 inches of snow per year) I cut R12 foam blocks to fit the windows for 7 months of winter we get. A panel ray direct vent propane heater keeps me warm. At minus 38 f I will admit I had to double up my down quilt with an apex filled top quilt. I am entirely on a 50 watt solar panel and a 12 volt car battery with a 300 watt inverter. I ditched the stove for tool storage but kept the sink and 15 gallon water tank so I can brush teeth and wash. For a single person this type of camper life can work. As part of my job I had a 100 sq ft log cabin without plumbing. But I live in this camper instead because of all the shelves, drawers, a closet, and I can relocate it during summer for different views/locations to wake up in. I am not sure I would willingly go back to a house with a foundation. As long as a lodgepole pine doesn't fall over and crush me I am golden. I know the video does not suggest this as permanent living quarters but it works for me. If anything ever happens to, or I decide to upgrade, the HC1 looks like my huckleberry. edited to add; Paid $2,400 for my camper from a craigslist ad. The gal had painted and mostly decorated the camper and had used it as a guest house. As an added bonus; it has it's original gas light fixtures which I restored. They make great supplemental heaters but are not direct vent so a bit sketchy to leave running for long. My home made 50 watt solar system with 12 volt 56 amp hour battery supplies enough power to charge my phone, laptop, and run one of the five led lightbulbs for 3 hours a night. If I had a do-over I might have gotten a 150 watt panel but the current system gets me by. However the 300 watt inverter will not power my Makita power tools lithium battery charger. To charge those I haul them through the forest to the shop thats on the grid.

Great camper. Well thought out and your narrative was excellent. As far as a sales point if someone is paying 19k for this I would want more than a 1 yr warranty. Should be at least a 5 yr.

They were similar to what we wanted basic no frills like RVs but again they cost $15,000 with no options. We finally just built our own and still have no more than $2,500 in it. Me and my boys go camping quite a lot in the fall/winter and we just wanted something to carry and store all our gear and a nice place to sleep...

I must agree. Took a cargo trailer that is 5x8, put some teardrop doors and windows, AC, vent fan, little sink and storage: $4,000. Twelve volt LEDs all around and saved 15k.

Lots of people are claiming the price is too high and that they can by a utility trailer and build a custom set up according to their own needs. yep! you sure can do that but this little beauty is great for someone like me with limited skills, limited facilities and limited desire to do so. Why even waatch a video on an already built, tricked out trailer, then? i'm looking for exactly this class of unit and it makes me happy. $20K is pretty dear but it IS 2018, after all. ; ) And, I agree that this guy does way better demos and "sales" schiticks than most commercial situations. I find nearly all the websotes, FB pages and YT vids from manufacturers sorely lacking.

Hi Joe & Kait, Nice job on this video! This is a cute trailer and will fit the bill for a lot of people. One thing that we would like to mention is that this trailer and many of the other popular lightweight trailers don't qualify for Harvest Hosts because they don't have internal gray water storage. Something for people to keep in mind who are hoping to add Harvest Hosts to their experiences. Keep up the good work guys!

Great walk-thru, thanks! I really like the sleek look of the "euro style" fiberglass campers. It seems that the designers thought of everything when making this tiny camper. I have not seen anything quite like it. Based upon the many small TTs that I have been looking at, with MSRPs $30-60k, this camper's price seems right in line with the market. Unfortunately tiny TTs come with a big price tags. If looking for something more substantial then check out the 2019 Sol, T@B 400, Oliver TT, and 2019 Lance 1475 -- very cool, very expensive, very desirable by the market. YOLO -- if you can swing the price then go for it. There's nothing like being on the road. I think a one-year warranty is inadequate.

Really cool. How about a tour of the “Barefoot camper”...very similar to this one, but has a really nice bathroom & kitchen.

What are some of your favorites small campers?

We're the Russos I'm renting an Aliner Scout this summer with the idea that I will probably buy one. I didn't want to spend a lot of money now (retiring to full time in about six years) so I'm limited by the tow capacity of my Jeep which is 2,000 lbs. I was liking this one until I heard the GVWR.

Hey Jody - the GVWR is not the weight of the coach, is the max weight rating of what it can handle. If I remember correctly, it weighs in around 1500 lbs which means you would have about 500 lbs of carrying capacity plus whatever you could safely store in the Jeep.

The Happier Camper is really one of the coolest trailers I've seen. Just for fun you need to see the Sealander Amphibious camping trailer... a boat and trailer in one.

I am a huge molded fiberglass (egg) camper fan, plus most of them fit the bill for small campers. I like Scamps and Casitas. They are the bread and butter egg campers. Escapes are wonderful egg campers. Olivers are the Airstreams of the egg camper world. Bigfoots are great 4 season egg campers along with the Olivers. Besides Happier Camper, there are small other egg campers, such as Armadillo. Nest is sold by Airstream and yes it is fiberglass and not aluminum. This list is not all inclusive. There are also lots of vintage egg campers (that are no longer made) for those that like retro, such as Bolers, Burros, Fiberstream, Eco, U-Haul, etc.

That one you (I think?) showed with the wrap-around windows! OMG I loved that. Too $$ and too long to wait, but if they offered a bigger one with a full bath I'd try to find a way.

Great video. Finally a trailer company in Los Angeles! 😍 I will be visiting the Los Angeles location soon. 🙌🏻 I only have one concern, will this fit in my garage with a 7 foot door? Land in Los Angeles is expensive. Rent on storing this will be a deal breaker for me. I would love you guys to come up with a way so we can store this at home. Which can make it even easier to get up and go someplace. Great job and see you guys soon. LorenA
