Winnebago Minnie Drop 170S (Unbiased RV Review)

This is a COMPLETELY UNBIASED RV REVIEW of the 2019 Winnebago Minnie 170S. This completes our series on the Winnebago Minnie trailers showing the differences between them. The Minnie Drop 170s is a small light weight trailer that looks great. It has all of the necessary parts, like a bathroom, but everything is compact and light weight. With its lifted axel and larger tires it can easily be taken to many destinations that are just a little farther out there. The small amount of food storage would be the only thing shortening your stay.
This trailer would be too small for the RV Sometimer Lifestyle or full timing but would be great for weekend camping or vacation. Although, I know there are people who live in rigs this small so it can be done. The Minnie Drop 170s trailer is also most suitable to a single or couple traveling. The dinette does make into a small bed suitable for a child but it would have to be made up and down each day for the trailer to function well.

@@DoesSizeMatter I have Stiff Person Disease or so doctors say. It is also much like MS however birth defects from Thalidomide which contributes I believe all of it. Hit me hard in 2003 and I found I need 66°'s and humidity below 58%. We have a large camper but I am thinking if we get the 185DB with center bath and rear lounge then I can get out to visit family more often because this is like a rolling motel safe space for me. Never give up on your dreams! Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your challenges but we are so happy you are still getting out and doing the things you want and totally get how you feel about your RV being your rolling motel suite, frankly it is better then most motel suites. We checked out the minnie drop 185db and it looks very cool. The huge dinette area, the made up bed and the decent sized bathroom are wonderful. If we can find one to do a review of we will.

Good Review. Yes black drain pipe too low to ground. This has been big deterent for us as most models don’t have enough ground clearance. Outdoor pkg a must to achieve. Or mod with lift kit. Tks

I’ll be nice and say nothing …. more and more the TAB is yet still the better choice…

Can you opt out of the Dinette for a sleeper couch? I would rather have a couch with a removable table than a dinette.

We don't see it advertised anywhere that a swap is an option but if you were going to special order one you could get the dealer to call the manufacturer about it. We would think the only limitation would be getting the jackknife sofa that is the right size. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

We do not know what the toy capacity or payload of a 4Runner is so we can't say but if you look usually inside the door on the sticker is should tell you and then compare those numbers with the numbers section of this video and you will be able to make a pretty close guess. If you had to choose between this mini or the airstream nest, both similar in size, which would you go with?

Ohhh good question. There were lots of things we liked about the nest, like all of the huge counter top space and the beautiful windows letting in all of the light along with the light interior but we would really have liked the full bath, the made up bed and the exterior storage in the minnie drop. So if we have to choose.... considering the price difference we would have to go with the minnie drop. What would you choose? Thanks for watching.

@@DoesSizeMatter so we were actually in the situation to where we had to make this decision just recently. Two very nice choices, but we ended up going with the Nest, and we actually got a killer deal on it (paid 29k out the door for brand new.) It was a hard choice but the nest was just sooo cool and we loved how innovative it was. Plus it's so aesthetically pleasing that we really liked the idea of having something different. However if we had to pay the full MSRP on it I think we would have gotten the Winne Minnie.. Love your videos by the way. Can't wait to get to spend a week in our nest like you guys did.

Wow! That's a deal you should have got 2 and sold one for a profit haha. I know exactly what you mean. The minnie is a cave compared to the Nest and it really is so cool. Everywhere we went people were waving and pointing. Just because it's so unique, er... well there was the one time the door came open at the back and we don't know it until someone honked and told us. Did you see that? We caught it on the camera. But ya it was unique and we loved that part too. The brightness of it just made me feel good. I'm sure you will like it. Let us know how it goes. The low clearance is a no go .. you hit even a pot hole your in trouble. Double pane windows needed .. Any updates on the 2020 versions

It is on a lifted chassis with larger tires then most trailers which does add clearance but we were concerned about the sewage drains and their exposure to damage placed as they were and we always like the benefits of dual pane windows although most sales people are telling buyers they are not necessary. We are still waiting to see some actual facts to support that claim. We will start attending shows at the end of Jan and will be looking for any changes made so that we can let you know. I heard a Winnebago dealership say that they are fazing out the gel finish paint. Not sure why but they said the only ones left on are the ones on the lots now.

@@DoesSizeMatter I read the same thing. According to what I read, in 2021 Winnebago is changing over to Azdel siding! Darn...we have a 2019 we love but I sure would have liked the Azdel option. Don't tell my husband otherwise, we'll be shopping again!

Great company - Well built and visually very attractive. However expensive and heavy. Gel coat is history. Be careful with your tow weights!!

We agree these are nice trailers but yes we have heard that Winnebago is moving away from the great gel coat and we assume that is due to costs which is unfortunate. We love the gelcoat finish, with or without colour. Thanks for watching.

the big problem is we need a walk around bed so that one person does not have to crawl over the other to go to the bathroom at night. The Micro Minnie 2106 and 2108 models would be more our style. They also seem to be slightly better constructed and equipped. Instead of the roughly 4 cu ft, refrigerators in the Minnie Drop and most of the other Micro Minnie models the two model series mentioned come with a 6 cu ft model with separate freezer and low mounted microwave. I have seen too many people injured taking boiling hot fluids out of those high mount microwaves and I do understand the reason for that placement when it is just as easy to mount them at or below counter height.

I like a walk around bed as well and as you mentioned the Micro Minnie has more options for that. Check out our review of the Micro Minnie 2108 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIjHd36qf55paac These 2 trailers are not comparable, as they are different trailers for different types of buyers but they are constructed the same. The 2108 we reviewed did not have a walk around bed but rather a large bed that could be converted into 2 twins, which we thought was pretty cool. It also still had the microwave above the stove but I do see your concerns with that as our current rig also has a high microwave and I do always worry about spilling on myself. The larger fridge is nice too but again the micro minnie and the minnie drop are two different trailers not meant to compete with one another. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and watching.

thanks for another great review! I really like that you structure it in sections. I was wondering before about your obsession of fully caulked showers. the wall panels overlap the shower/bath tubby about an inch, so water would have to go up a lot to get behind, which is pretty much impossible. And with a little luck, they even put a bead of sealer around the joint. The slide out is that much off the ground to clear the wheel fender on the outside. If they were clever they would attach the fender to the slide out, which would allow to lower the slider by a lot and accommodate a lot more storage. Dumb ass engineering! Why don't you create a sheet with "the numbers", that way we always would get all the important info. You did not mention interior length. And I sure like that you blend in the info for fridge size or bed size, that's much more memorable, why dont you make that a standard, its very neat and you could refer to that when explaining it, instead of saying you're not sure. And since you're a little shorter than most guys, It would be nice if you demonstrate where 6' is, where height is a concern. I liked a lot that you pointed out, that there is no room for your glass of water. I would have forgotten about that despite always me having a glass next to my bed as well. Maybe you could do a little comparison series with small trailers which offer a walk around north/south bed. I think other people would be interested in that as well.

Glad you liked this one and the structure we use. We do prefer fully caulked showers because why not? and yes everyone stands behind the click together being enough until it's not. The idea behind the click together does make sense but we often see big gaps where the clicking together just isn't working and where there is an opening there is a potential problem. Slides are always a challenge for manufacturers to use the best one for the situation and still mange costs for the customer. The Schwintek is an above floor system and will always take up some inside storage space but in these small trailers it still adds a lot of space without too much weight and cost. We don't have a numbers 'sheet' because it would not be helpful to folks as they would then have to click somewhere else to open it and if they are doing that then they can click to the manufacturers site where the numbers are posted and we would not suggest that a viewer click off of our video when they can always get the info from our Numbers section. We collect as much number info as we can get and then we include everything we have, in a ticker tape if we found it after filming and in the numbers section if we find it before we are finished filming. It is not always readily available and we have to work hard to get it for you. I will always say I am unsure about something rather then mislead a viewer or try to imply I know things that I don't. Our channel is built on straight forward honesty. We tell our viewers all of the time what my height is and as we mention all of the time our channel is filmed from our perspective so we would not try to explain anything from another's perspective. We have done some comparison videos and whenever the opportunity presents itself we will do more. We agree they are helpful to folks. We totally hear you with the water glass thing. It's a detail we always look for. Hope that addresses your concerns and thanks for watching.
