This episode is an example of why Haikyuu!! is so great. It doesn't just focus on main characters. It shows the passion and drive of all competitors. And this is just the beginning. There are more to come and more feel to come with it.

One of the episodes that showcase Haikyuu's reputation as a premier sports anime.

I really loved this episode, I loved that they toke the time to show the other team and gave them depth to them and not just the other team that our main characters have to beat. It’s like no these are real people who also want to win just like our man characters. I like that it’s not just karasuno vs a no named team with no depth, I truly enjoy how realistic haikyuu is in that sense.

I love how this anime/manga gives multiple perspectives of experienced player and newbie, winner and loser, tall and short. I would argue that this is why this series has the staying power it has; it's employment of a variety of perspectives makes that story real and tells us that winning is not the only place from where one should grow. I can't wait for your reaction to Karasuno versus Dateko!

I don’t know if you catch that, so just in case. After Inter-high (this competition) many third years quit their clubs to prepare college entrance exam or job serching. And majority of them won’t play volleyball anymore. So this was a last chance for the losers in this episode. Btw you don’t need to apologize for cheering other teams, many haikyu fans including me have experiences to scream “I want Karasuno to win, but I don’t want the opponent to lose!” Lol.

Just in case you guys are wondering, yes, Daichi touched the net in that part when he and his former teammate (Ikejiri) joust and in volleyball that considered to be a fault. A net fault. This episode show what's really happening in sports and competitions. People come to compete and give their all but we can't deny the fact the there will be only one winner and the other one will be the loser. Yeah this show the side of the losing team this just prove the fact that Haikyuu is accurate when it comes to explaining the aspects of sports that we sometimes forget. Nice reaction again. Can't wait for more.

13:11 The foot logo is actually a pun. In Japanese, the word for foot is "ashi", so when you combine it with ICS it'll be read something like "ashi-shikusu" which is close to how the Japanese pronounce the sports brand "asics".

Even though Haikyuu is mainly about volleyball, it's a story that actually focuses on passion. How it actually feels like to be passionate about something, and the fact that to achieve anything that it may be, there's hard work behind it. The drive to get there and ups and downs to get there. When you finish it, you should watch Aleczandxr videos about it, his analysis and thoughts about the anime/manga(he usually warns about spoilers) are amazing.

19:00 the sad part is that even if you did do everything you possibly could, and maximized every moment you had to train, after a loss you STILL try to rationalize it with "I could've done this more, I should've worked on this, I needed to be better at that" because trying your hardest and losing still hurts.

Ughhh crying has literally become a norm for me when watching Haikyuu. I felt so bad for all the losing teams, and it's just so relatable to people because there will always be losers and winners. So, SO inspiring, as Ian said, and I love that you guys take the time to talk about all this because a lot of reactors just skim over the fact that this episode is really realistic and shows us how the non-main characters feel after a loss. Awesome reaction as always, can't wait for more!!!

More often if you watch sports anime, you will not see this reframing of the world 'losers' or dedicating an episode just for that. Agree with you totally! In life, we also will face the same defeat/rejection in many stages and we can always watch ep 16 to tell ourselves this is not the end.
