Charlotte needed a small forward for years and finally landed the best forward in the draft and he's a great scorer. Guards are everywhere but great wings that can shoot are rare. I think it's a win.

people are so dumb about this Miller situation, he is the perfect fit, and even talent for the Hornets, because the fact is, Scoot might not get the return they might need, and having 3 amazing point guards all fighting to the death for minutes would DESTROY the locker room, add a very versetile wing, that can shoot incredibly well, plays good off ball, essentialy a 2nd coming of Paul George, that can play both forward and guard positions well, doesn't need to fight for minutes, can develop near other decently young stars and such, yall should sleep on miller

I wanted Scoot but I am very happy with Brandon Miller. Team needs were shooting, defense and some type of playmaking and Brandon Miller provides all of that. With that being said, that opened up the Hornets being able to draft for talent later considering they got their need/fit pick earlier in the draft. There were more athletic guards/wings later in the draft than there were shooter and overall just reliable scorers like Miller. I definitely wanted Scoot but I can’t be mad at Miller. Draft fit over talent is "always" the wrong choice. Really? The Kings took Keagan Murray over Jaden Ivey and Keagan literally had the most 3pt shots made by a rookie in history, shooting over 40%. His play with the Kings catapulted them into the playoffs for the 1st time in 16 years. Uhh.....but......sometimes fit is better than talent. Scoot is an incredible talent, but pairing him with LaMelo would not have been a smart choice, esp when wings are in high demand.

@xanderschablowsky9607 The Kings took the champs to 7 when no one thought they would be a playoff team, maybe play-in team but they got the 3rd seed after 16 years being out. A 1st rd exit was a huge success for a team that pundits laughed at. Who's laughing now?

I guess he failed most of his interviews too even though ive heard people make excuses & say he did it on purpose cause he didn't wanna go to a bad organization like Detroit but then ended up at 1 anyway in Houston. They apparently just let their young guys do whatever down there from what Gordon & Wall have said, which is why all that INSANE physical talent isn't equating to wins. Hornets fan here. Went into the draft on the Scoot train, was disappointed at first with the Miller selection at first, but im really coming around to it now. He will be an amazing fit next to Lamelo, i think he can play big ball SG, and will still be a great player. Will Scoot be better? Maybe, for sure. But as long as Miller still becomes a great player and the Hornets start winning, thats all i really care about. Also the Hornets did great with their other draft picks too. I think Jalen Green is also miscast as the "leader" of the Rockets, and until someone else takes on that title and changes the culture, there will be limited growth here. Compare Jalen Green's high school tape, to his tape from last year and the only difference you'll see is he makes more shots now. Still hunts poor shots, too often head-down only concerned about going 1-on-1... not a great example of hard work there. As a thunder fan i'm super happy with how the draft went for us. the bertans contract means nothing much really bc this is his last year on his contract if the thunder use his ETO, thunder have cap space to spare and failing that presti has never been shy of pulling off big trades, we have draft capital to spare and young talent to bolster a big trade if need be, the thing we didn't have was a contract to make the money right for a big player if that's what we end up doing. Size and rebounding are two things that the thunder lacked last season and bertans brings a bit of both, he's not someone we would have gone out of our way to get IMO but getting someone with his skillset whilst simultaneously securing the pick we wanted in cason is easily a win-win. taking cason was well worth it despite your reservations, i can tell you don't watch much thunder basketball bc anyone who does can see that cason fits perfectly with them both with his playing style and his attitude, he will feel very at home in oklahoma with his defense and selfless play.

I disagree that you should always be drafting talent over fit. There's a certain threshold where you SHOULD draft talent over fit (top 3 for sure) but it's not a guideline u look at for the whole draft. Especially in the later stages of R1 and early stages of R2. Also the point you made of Charlotte being huge winners if they had drafted Scoot is kind of moot because then they would have ended up with 3 young talented point guards or not had the chance to pick up the steal in nick smith jr.
@illDefine1
@illDefine1 Жыл бұрын
Unless you are clearly a contender you don't draft for fit. Even in that case, I would argue to draft talent because that young player will probably be a trade piece for an established veteran who can put you over he top. Get the most valuable player. But in reality, if you're drafting that high it is likely because you aren't a contender and drafting for fit around a core that has accomplished nothing is incredibly foolish.

He's also going to a club with Fred Vinson who fixes shots but not just that, he can maybe just refine that bit more where it's the most damaging catch and shoot for a young shooter. Look how Lonzo shot and percent jumped after leaving to Bulls. We just need CJ to actually pass the ball this year lol.

Here’s my take on the hornets. If you wanted to trade the pick away then you take scoot clearly…but they didn’t so they aren’t trading it away. The other thing is that I agree talent over fit is correct most of the time…except for ball dominant Point Guards. That is literally the only position that I think you take fit over talent.
@michaelahurt

Agree but is Scoot more talented? Brandon Miller is a better prospect than Tatum was at 19 and Tatum has made first team All-NBA twice by 25, been to the Finals and lives in the ECF.

Kings wanted to Draft Kris. But Portland took him over us. Which suck, but we needed a big cap space for a player in free agency. It sucks to give away 24th and Richaud Holms for Salary dump. However, Right now we’re in a situation to sign a player proven players with our cap space to address our Defense and depth.

Jordan Walsh at 38 I can’t believe he fell to the second round elite defender day one can step up and play 20 minutes right away for the Celtics and the offense growth will come since he doesn’t have to force anything in that offense. I wanted the kings to take him with 24, they’re huge losers in this draft they needed wing d and another ball handler and passed on them both

It's really not that hard. There's a pretty obvious range of outcomes for every player since 90% of it is dictated by physical ability. And history really is a good indicator 95% of the time. But, yeah, no one can predict skill development or how the game will change. No one saw Steph coming. Or Jokic. Or Kawhi. Or Fultz. Or Giannis adding 5" and 40 pounds of solid muscle. But the predictions are half the fun.

I will be impressed when I see him actually hitting threes consistently in the NBA. Potential is going but you have to actualize that potential. It's good he's showing his shooting touches but we need to see it in NBA games. Until then, I'm not hype by his potential because everyone has potential.
