does not matter what age they are they can all be trained :) I had a rehome girlie OK about 1 year old but zero training except for a show stand... did not take her long to get the basic and a few months later started to bring home rosettes for odebience :)

Very easy if you get your timing right, don't over exercise them when they are young and growing, take it easy let their bones harden up before really running them etc..

Patience is the real key and of course knowing when to keep your mouth shut :) I do beleive in letting the dogs (pups) work it out for them selves, takes a little longer in the beginning but you totally reap the rewards later on :)

Be careful about the slippery floor. When the pup sits he slides backwards. Slippery floors could cause leg joint problems especially where large dog breeds are concerned.

We are talking nine weeks here not nine months.. They won't be guarding anything at nine weeks and being puppies they will still be sleeping alot as they are growing very fast indeed etc. Up to about 4 months old 4 meals, then 3 meals until about 6\8 months (depends on their grow rate etc) then onto 2 meals etc. Note don't over feed thinking you will get a big dog at the end, you could end up with a big dog with poor bone growth... health first always, they get big in their own time :D

Rottweilers need a lot company so it sounds like she is a bit crazy with the lack of it. Special dog food ? what food, dry, wet, raw etc ? Bread and Milk, well just like us (humans) and most animals we can't break down all cows milk enzymes, I would give goats milk and mix heavly with water, i.e 1 part milk to 3 parts water.. Have you thought about using a Halti ? (halti.co.uk)

watch the video closely, the dog is more sitting on the hand signal rather than the command.... so by bring your hand up in front of their face and stopping just out of reach wait and mark with a "Yes" when they sit..

feeding with profine puppy chicken&potatoes, 4 times a day. I'm thinking to change after we reach 15 weeks old. Up to last week, I added water. But he started to refuse. Now he eats without adding water. I guess he liked to use the food also for "dental scratcher" for his coming toothes. Thanks again&again for your previous& upcoming guides.

He Just Needs To Learn How To Lay Down On Command, Along With Barking,Growling And His Fetching Is Pretty Good. He Gets It But Doesn't Exactly Give It To Me. He Lays It Like 2 feet away but yeah :)

Puppies get distracted so easy, so find a space where they are less distractions and speed is part of it, keeping things moving at a pace and of course making it fun. When my dogs see the training bag they go mad as they love training as it's a fun time. Also note if I ask for a down, as soon as they are down I mark it with a "Yes", if they get back up again it's not a problem as I have marked it when their were in a down and they can have a treat, then very quickly they start to understand what they are meant to do...

wow,.come train my pitbull 8 week old please 🤣. idk if you'll answer but do you push butt down for sit, than give treat? kinda lay them down and say good - down & try to get them to stay by placing treats down? How on earth did you train the food in hand trick. Great trainer! Bravo!!
@St3r3otype69
@St3r3otype69 7 жыл бұрын
No, you should be able to get the result you want with luring them with treats or toys. If you are going to be physical (hands on your dog), for a sit don't push the backside down, even puppies can resist and you could end up damaging them, I would place one hand flat palm at their backside (their tail going through my fingers) and with the other hand I would place it on their chest and lift their chest slightly upwards, this naturally makes them them want to go backwards, they can't as you hand is there and 99% of the time their backside will just go down.

Carly Montague thank you for offering me kind advise. I find your method of training wonderdul. I wish you were in my area! 🤣 I THINK Ihave a problem with a very aggressive pitbill puppy? The reason I say this is because he was just rescued a drug house & his parents are VERY, VERY animal aggressive to the point where the owner is in jail right now because my puppies dad killex & tore up a cat ( apparently not the first time). Therefore, my concern is Gunny's aggression with discipline. If for instance he is puppy mouthing, or biting & I tried Ceasor Millons way & that makes it worse! So, I was told to take him by the chin formly and say NO! HAHA yea riggt, he will fight me BUT I do not ket up & he'll finally stop, but sometimes whwn I take my hands off of his face he'll become aggressive again and I have to start over. again. When he stops Im using your method, YES, good boy.. We just bought him so we have a collar & leash on the way! This is a mess too now. He ised to come with treats and will when in a small boed in area. But as for outside, NOPE he will ignore me to a point where he'll go hide under something, sit, or laydown and look at me 🤤 like..Hahaha. The thing is this is not funny to me, this is a problem. I have no intensions of letting him go but HE'S A HANDFUL! What am I doing wrong? Has he picked up on his parents temperments? Is this normal behavior, because I can't remember my Rottweiler beinv like this or my pitbull. One more question, my husband has been putting him on his back, he is so strong & will NOT relax, he will fight you. Is this too young of an age to be trying to get him to submit, we want him to know who the pack leader is & he isn't having it. Once his leash & collar come than what?

It's hard to give real advise without seeing the puppy and owner together and how they interact with each other and how the puppy interacts with the environment in. In young dogs biting can be a few different things usually play biting is just part of learning, teething can be a problem to some dogs and have the need to chew and bite all the time and another top main reasons for biting is to gain attention. Fighting aggression with aggression is a path I would not go down. People really don't understand what a pack leader is, which in dogs is a very strong confident dog, do NOT confuse strength with aggression (they are 2 different things) which a lot of people do, so to be come the pack leader you have to show\earn the confidence of the dog. With regards to biting if I know it's not teething, I would say No in a firm voice and then ignore the dog, just do something else and then when I'm ready I will interact with the dog. Lady Lara was a nippy dog as she wanted to play all the time and this was her way of trying to get attention, what I did a lot was after she tried nipping my feet I would tell her no, not talk to her and go and get a toy, then I would start to play with it, of course she wanted to join in, I would carry on ignoring her and played with the toy, as soon as she showed some restraint (usual would sit or go into a down) I would then allowed her to play with the toy with me. With regards to a collar and lead, I start off by teaching my dogs the commands "Collar On", "Collar Off" and I train it like anything else, "Collar On" I then put the collar on, "Yes" and treat the dog, same for "Collar Off", so now the dogs go and get their collars when going out as they know they will get a treat (to be honest most of the time PoohBear gets most of the collars as he knows he will be double treated LOL ). Then repeat the same thing with the lead, "Lead On", clip the lead on, "Yes" and treat, same with "Lead Off", so most of the time if I just hold the clip of the lead they just come over as they know it's time to go onto the lead and they will be praised and treat (sometimes). Also teach them about the lead in the house, i.e. walk about with the lead on in the house so when you do out, the lead is nothing new for the pup to worry about.. What age was the puppy rescued? how old is the puppy now?

Carly Montague well unfortinetly, having had 3 powerful dogs before. This pup is not takibg NO well. He is exercised, has tons of proper chew toys, and hide, he is simply acting very aggresive after he is just play biting and were saying NO, and holding his face because nothing else is working, even this is a battle but were following through with it so he knows who's the pack leader. I don't believe or want anything to do with dog fighting, abusing a dog, or some put their finger in the dogs mouth when they get bitten & sqeeze hsrd on the gums, sorry but ai'm not partaking in that cruel method. I do my beat to stay calm & assertive, but he's so young. Anyway, regarding a question I was hoping to get advise on whst to do about this? IS laying him on his back a true way to stop this behavior, & waiting until he stops fighting it and simply relaxes? I will not raise this kind of dog and when he's old enough will hire a trainer once he's done woth his parvo series, and shots. I'm graspingasping for straws here 😢 You've been so kind thank you sir!

No, OK PoohBear was shown for a while, did well and qualified and went to crufts, as I do so much obedience found doing showing quite hard on PoohBear as he did not want to take his eyes off you which you need for competitive obedience but not for showing when running. You will need to research other youtube video's about stacking (PoohBear's command for stacking was "Show Stand", as he knew how to walk backwards I found it easy to walk him backwards into a stack position).

Must be going mad as I'm so sure I have answered this question, anyway, I use their meals during training, i.e. for a young pup they will have four meals a day, 2 they just have and 2 I use for training. As for walks don't walk a young Rottie too far, no longer than 1 minute per weeks old i.e. 14 week old pup, 14 minutes max..

with fetch I teach it from tuggy games, I do a lot of tugging and teach them to leave it when I have both my hands on it. once they have that, every now and then I will drop the tuggy to the floor and as soon as they pick it up mark it "Yes" start playing again, keep repeating, then throw the tuggy a little further away (we are talking feet here only), I also find playing in a narrow hall helps as they can't run away, if they do, I take the toy away, so I make sure the game is only fun with me.

Variety, mainly their own dinners when they are young, that way you don't unbalance their diet. When they get older and you are training in a hall then the more smelly and high end treats come out... I do give them small bits of heart as the fat content is low etc. when they are young and just starting to go to halls etc.

With Winnie I started at 7 weeks old I would train him a few times a day but only for 5 minutes (or less), but you can see at 10 weeks you can go for a lot lot longer... Note: at 14 months old he has won his first Open Novice (only the 3rd time worked in the ring, the 2nd time he got 2nd and the first time came about 8th as he broke his stays)..

it's really good that you want to learn how to teach a Rottweiler even more so before you get the dog... having a good trainer is important, find some different classes and go and watch a few them, ask the other people there what they think of the classes etc. All my dogs (including my 5 1/2 year olds) go to class every week (more really as they come to classes that I teach at too), OK, I do competitive obedience and I need an training to watch me to make sure I'm not giving away any signals etc

Hi Joe, If you have read some of my other comments you will notice that I train with some their meals, that way you don't unbalance their diet. Also what you have to be careful of if you have a really really hungry dog, it won't really be thinking about what it is doing, it will just want the food period, getting a dog to think about what it is doing is the best way to train it, and of course it gets treats as rewards :D

excellent, sounds like you are doing well... I always teach my dog a "down" from a stand (not a sit, as you get lazy downs from sits), I place a peice of food in the palm of my hand and hold it with my thumb, then I turn my hand upside down close the ground between the dogs front legs leaving enough room for the dog to get it's nose under, more often than not they will drop to the floor to get to the food, as soon as they do, mark it "Yes" and drop the food in the floor (important bit)...

Sorry, but they don't have to be on 4 meals a day. My father & uncle breed rottweilers & travel to the rottweiler expo every year in Germany: highly experienced with these types of dogs. They would tell you that 4 meals a day make them lazy & they do not make good guard dogs when you feed them so much. I have a rottie pup myself & I find that he is much more attentive & energetic when I feed him two meals a day. But I do agree that they should be with someone most times @ this age.

+Carly Montague you named your male Rottie Winnie? ha-ha.. so how much does he weigh now? I realize not all rotties grow the same, but normally a10 weeks Rottie would weight around 15 -17 pounds.. your dog looks more like 25 or so..

Winnie as in Winnie the Pooh or Winston Churchill.. He's about 46-47 Kg (that's about 102 pounds) now. I do keep the weights of my dogs recorded but I can't seam to find his at the moment..

Hey Carly, i have 6 week old Rottie.So, when should i start to train him?
@St3r3otype69
@St3r3otype69 10 жыл бұрын
As soon as a dog enters my house training starts, but nothing intense, first things to teach a dog is it's Name and then loads and loads of play, recalls however play is so so important I can't stress that enough, you don't see it in my videos but there is so much play going on in between filming, and to me this is how I start to bond with dogs...

So Carly in regards to your response to my reply, how exactly do you expect them to get proper training if you feed them so much meals and they are always full?? Ideally, when a dog is being trained with treats, they should be trained when they are hungry so that they can be more motivated

Hey I have a question, I'll be picking up a rottie pup at the age of 10 weeks, do you think it'll have negative influence on training since the puppy won't be as young as 8 weeks? What commands do you recommend first to start with a 10 week old pup besides "No" , "Come", "Sit" and "Leave" ?
@St3r3otype69
@St3r3otype69 8 жыл бұрын
10 weeks or even 10 months old, as long as you start off as you mean to go on is the important part, Roobie Roo did not come to me until she was about 10/11 months old, 6 months later she was in the obedience ring doing training rounds and 6 months after that she won out of Novice. So she learnt at this house we do a fun thing called training and a lot of it LOL Puppies\dogs name and then watch are my first commands, "sit" does not get no more attention than "Down" or "Stand".

He's so smart! I have a question. I have my Rottie for 4 days and he turned 8 weeks today. I watched your videos and I try to do with him the same things BUT he is hyperactive (of course) and it's very hard. For example, when I try command SIT, he always tries to catch the treat by its paws and jumps. I see your puppy was pretty calm doing this :( I know I can't expect much :) and we can do it just for like an half minute, because then he losts interest. Can you recommend me what should I do? Sorry for my English, I hope you'll understand :)

This is a good video to watch of Lady Lara being trained at 8 weeks, kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4LLfJ17e9dpjcU If you notice I don't flap my hands about, I don't lift my hands up so they are just out of reach, I hold food in my hand my dogs can smell it, lick it but don't get it until they do something, also note I'm down low with my pup, she does jump on me but I just guide her off, not making a fuss etc. The other big thing to remember is English is not the first nor second language for dogs :) I have not watched that video in a while and I noticed I did a lot of capturing which means the dog did something and I rewarded the dog for doing it but I had not ask for the dog to do it.. Capturing is very powerful.
