WINNING a Kayak Bass Tournament Due to a Boater’s UNEXPECTED Sportsmanship! | Lake Istokpoga, FL

Today I am fishing a Slay Nation Kayak Tournament on Lake Istokpoga located in Central Florida. I am coming into this tournament blind, however, I am very excited because I have heard there are giant bass out here! There have been over 600 trophy bass caught on Lake Istokpoga so I know there’s big fish out here… I just have to figure out what they’re doing! I fished 30 years of tournaments in Florida Istapoga was 1 of favorite lake my biggest fish was caught was 10 lbs 3 the tournament would have over 100 boats I caught the big fish in practice it would take 30 to 40 lbs to when win I was flipping a lot a lot jigs and craws

Congratulations on your 1st place finish. How do you decide on when to use a drop shot vs a shaky head?

Thanks Steven! For me the drop shot is always a last resort… or I use it if I the fish are small and I am trying to confirm that suspicion. If they are short striking the speed worm I always throw the drop shot as a follow up just for a different presentation and it works! I prefer throwing the shaky head… but if I know the bite is really tough the drop shot is always the way to go. I use the shaky head when there’s a lot of wood around. I will use the drop shot to finish picking a spot clean if I feel there’s still fish in the area that just might be finicky. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
