well done on your win Pete - hopefully the other three contributed a little to the win 🙂 On board 4 it is interesting if you choose the Qdiamonds (come back a heart - makes 10 tricks) instead of the King of diamonds (makes 9 tricks if you unblock)

Well done at GC. I saw one weird hand where you end up playing 2Dx for +800 top board where I assume you had bid 2D as response to 2 way checkback by partner who was weak with diamonds.

We had been pushing a lot lately but not this week. 3. I bid 4C after 2NT and partner put me in a moysian fit in 4S which made for 100%. 4. I bid 3C after 2NT and ended up in 4S again, this time a 5-2 fit. Unfortunately the bots found their heart ruff for the same -1 you had. 5. My optimism in bidding 3NT was rewarded. 🙂 6. My pessimism in not bidding 3NT was punished. 🙁 7. I bid out my pattern and ended up in 4H on another 5-2 fit. Going down 1 scored better than defending.

On board 4 I played the "better" line you suggested and got rewarded for it. In retrospect though, it only gains if clubs are 4-1 without a singleton 10 and they don't knock out the second heart, and the diamond is badly placed and the spades don't split. Meanwhile, I was possibly jeopardising a second heart trick if I cash ace of clubs. Not sure if I was right at match points. I think your line is probably better. On 5, I tried to play in 4D but partner insisted on 5. In retrospect, punting 3NT was the better option give the large upside if partner held QD and a couple of other tricks. Particularly true when the computer takes any attempt to go for a cheap sacrifice as an invitation to game.

I saw one of the GC hands where you bamboozled the opposition by leading 9 of K9 doubleton. I would have liked to have seen south’s expression when the 'sure fire' finesse failed.

Congratulations Pete. I am a novice but I would love to know How do you count HCP so quickly. You take less than a second.

I count them in blocks, if you have an AKQJ that is 10, AJ is 5, KQ is 5. I try and pair them up like those and then count the stragglers.
