Winnipeg Jets Josh Morrissey reacting to Scheifele and Hellebuyck contract extensions

No surprise that the focus after today's first practice on day 1 of the regular season was focused on the Jets signing Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele to seven-year contract extensions. Alternate captain Josh Morrissey has grown up with these two in this organization and he spoke about what it means to himself, the franchise and the city.

I feel good about this season, rolling 4 lines consistently will make the team faster and guarantee they will be fresh in February and beyond. Instead of running out of gas in the stretch run.

Rick Bowness did speak about that (feels like it was yesterday or the day before) how it will give them more flexibility. Of course he has the tools but we shall now see how he uses them.

It’s funny how Chevy has pulled the wool over the eyes of loyal Jets fans once again. He canvassed many GMs over the Summer to gauge their interest in trading for Scheifele and Hellebuyck and because both were demanding significant raises in a new contract, there were no takers so these long in the tooth warriors had no choice but to return to home base with their tail between their legs. Chevy then tried to save their faces by gifting them with about $2.5 M annual raises for seven years after 2024. Chevy is touting them as major contributors moving forward, but savvy fans know in their prime, they got the team no closer to the Stanley Cup than their disappointing loss to the Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final.
