I live & die w My Jets, always have always will!! We went through this from about 92-95 finally losing the team so this talk makes me nervous!!! I'm not in a position to buy seasons tickets the best I can do is go to a couple games a year, if I could afford seasons tickets I'd 1000% buy them!! I think the economy is likely the biggest factor w the price of groceries having doubled since precovid!! True North has its work cut out for it getting back to 13,000 seasons tickets holders!!!

It's not about attendance, it's about corporate sponsorship. Many, many teams have poor attendance, but the NHL doesn't care if the seats are sold. It's the business community that needs to step up, not the average fan.

It's not about lack of fan support in Winterpeg, Manisnowba. They have the best fans in the league. It's time for the owners to face reality and understand that you have to adapt to the economy that actually exists there. Knocking down the prices at the concession stands would help as well. There are alot more things to take into consideration than just the price of season tickets when it comes to actually attending games and right now most Winnipeger's are feeling the pinch from what this Government has done to this country over the past 3 years.

Thanks for the comment. They are offering a 25% discount on concessions to season ticket holders.

@@SportsTalkWPG It not the season ticket holders that need the break. It's those that can't afford season tickets that do.

It really comes down to TNSE having about a 15% corporate share of seats when the other Canadian markets are at 50%. Honestly, I do believe that Chipman wanted to be unique by having actual fans buying the tickets but it looks like that will end. According to the Athletic article Bettman wants to bump that corporate share to 33% to remain viable. Canada has become extremely expensive post-Covid and that is terrible.
@SportsTalkWPG8 ай бұрын
Yup the corporate support is definitely a huge reason.

@mbuckley38288 ай бұрын
3:00 The part where you're indicating that most NHL markets operate at 40% to 50% for corporate ticket numbers are concerned? Is there an article from the NHL substantiating those corporate numbers being that high? That seems really high.

Chris Johnston who joined the show today wrote in The Athletic "They managed to fill the building for more than a decade despite having just 15 percent of their season seats purchased by businesses. That lags well below the norm in a league in which some teams sell 50 percent of their tickets to corporate interests, according to Chipman." Read an earlier comment by a fan that was removed due to its nature that revolved around their being unhappy with ownership because of their belief the league caters to so many women and people of color nowadays. That it's gone too Woke in the process. While I may not necessarily agree with such views, so much of corporate America looking to silence any view that may be viewed as racist being immediately removed as was the case here because it may bother someone else is exactly why this problem has exacerbated much of the way society has become today. Deleting and/or hiding some people's viewpoints as racist rants, misogynistic remarks, or what some may consider hate speech is only going to continue to get worse as society becomes more and more thin-skinned in their approach.

Not looking to host hate speech here sorry. Additionally if someone has a comment don’t spam the same thing over and over or I will have no choice but to remove them.

Please, yes you can. Both sides are both doing it now down here. Latest example is this Bama IVF issue and the courts and their ruling embryo's are kids. Common sense is going the way of the dodo. Too many have a view now and refuse to see anything but their way is all.

It seems Mr. Chipman is unaware that the reason the Jets' season ticket holders dropped off is because TNSE- including Mr. Chipman himself- was stupid enough to force mandates upon guests, thus discriminating them and causing them to decide to rightfully cancel their season tickets in response to being discriminated against. If he hadn't done that, I 100% guarantee that attendance would've NEVER dropped like that!

@@Al_Camino77 That was never the case. It was solely for the reasons I mentioned. Just because some morons believe the asinine "icing a terrible team" thing (which was never true) doesn't make it true! If it were true, then that would've changed this season, now that the Jets are amongst the top teams in the league! That should've been raking in fans from all over the Province, but it hasn't. Why? Because what I said was 100% true, and is the ONLY reason Jets attendance dropped off.

They get paid by TSN/SN for the broadcast rights. Some teams like Vegas/Arizona are putting the games on free Tv actually and are using it more as marketing. I don’t see this happening tbh. The Utah Jazz are doing this in the NBA too.

70.95$ + tax for the cheapest seat for the Arizona game. Add parking/transit/uber + refreshments. you're well over 100$ per person to see a hockey game. Thats a bit much for a night out in the nose bleed section. Good seats gonna cost you atleast 180$ per ticket.
