So glad you mentioned leaving a beet plant or two in the ground for seed for next year. I did not know this. Can I still harvest the beet greens from these same plants I'll be leaving in the ground?
@dawnteskey3259Ай бұрын
Yes! That's how I found out that beets are biennial. I left some in the ground for greens.

The beet plant can be cut of greens and the beet root can be left in the ground to grow new tops for next year's seed, yes.

There are several ways to winnow seeds but this one is my go to method.

Great video. It's been raining for 5 days straight here in Southwest Ga. All my carrot seed heads germinated on the plant. I am so sad. Today I will prepare a bed for them and try to get them separated from each other and contact with soil.

I watched a great hack for dry beans on More than farmers youtube last week. Just pile the beans complete with hulls into a pillow case ,not too full,then bash on floor,not too fiercely as you dont want the actual beans to break,but the hulls pop open and beans fall out,check for readiness after a minute or two,simply scoop out the empty bean cases. They got bowlfulls done in minutes!

tip and slide a thick piece of paper or thin cardboard like shoe or soda box up under seeds like a scoop they will roll off paper card, junk will stay at the top of dish pan this will make it go way quicker

Okay now this is something I've never thought to do and would work fantastic! Thank you so much for this tip! I'm definitely going to try that ❤

Why no screen ?
@hippiechickoffgridmaine8625Ай бұрын
There are several ways to winnow for sure. I've used the screen method quite a bit for larger batches of seed and it too works. Here, I do smaller batches and as the seeds dry I winnow them. Larger batches the screen would be a lot faster to winnow.
