Carrying water for 3 horses in 100+degree heat this year when my water tanks were being repaired,up a slight slope ,only about 40m just about ended me..one day was OK.. but 3 weeks in I really struggled with pain. Never been so grateful for the day the tanks got refilled! 2 5gal buckets at a time, 10 or so trips per day. Then there was single buckets to all the other creatures 2 to 3 times a day,and some for the house. I'm well used to carrying water, but that spell was beyond challenging!

Im in WNC. You are correct. Things can happen in places ,where you least expect it. There is a bucket you can get to fit into a 4” well pipe. I’ve tried to order one, but they are on back order. For those with a well, you can find directions online on how to construct one out of PVC and it has a ball in the bottom. You lower it down, it fills and when you lift it, the ball closes the bottom hole. Keep cash. Even with electric, the pumps didn’t work. I was without cell (no text, calling or internet ) for a week. It was longer for other areas. ATM ran out of $. Keep cash. Im glad you speak about this. Even if you’re prepared, an event can happen that you never saw coming to your area. Side note: I’d monetize your channel and take that $ and get a well. KZbin is making $ off of you. There’s no shame in it. For me, I’d prefer you took that $ and had a well drilled. Enough said about that. This has been an exercise, for me, to see the holes. I was spared and have a lot of survivors guilt. Going forward, im happy to see channels like yours talking about this. I spent a week not knowing what was even going on! It’s too much to even cover. It’s not a matter of if… it’s a matter when it will happen to another small pocket of America.

Hello ! What a wise video ! You not only shared the "what" and the "how" , but also the "WHY"! For those needing guidance , this was so much more helpful that the usual "10 things you need to get NOW for SHTF !!!" , who rarely provide the background for those 10 choices . Thank you for your concern for us and for the time needed to put this together ! Bless you !

I agree! Even in my state, every year when winter hits…people panic. Like they didn’t know winter was eventually going to show up lol. People need to take accountability, look at their areas and determine what they need. Someone living in hurricane areas, mudslide prone areas, forest fires…their strategies will differ slightly from those who live in drought prone areas, those who have high tornado rates, or even those who live on the plains with limited trees. Unfortunately too many are willing to blame others for their downfall instead of accepting responsibility and trying to plan accordingly.

Thank you for your video! I shared it onto my FB page. Good advice that most of us have heeded and talked about to people who wouldn't listen. Hopefully, people will wake up. When disaster strikes it is too late. We never know what is going to happen. God gave each of us a working brain to be used. God told Noah to prepare! He loaded food and water into the ark. It is time for everyone to be ready for whatever may come. We can only do our best. We need to do our best, pray and care about each other. Again, thank you for caring and putting out this video. You are such a sweet person! God Bless You!!

Good evening Chick... I was raised living that way...except we didn't have compost in the 50's I don't even want to think either about all those people who were uprooted from their homes by water coming from the mountain...that was unexpected...family of 11 all died that day.....I've been thinking about the changes that are coming... Now we can filter water, I want to check where what I need is sold...I have a friend whose job was to test water... In the 50's we had a hot house...we had a well ....we don't use any plastic anymore.. Im glad you are speaking of this because we need to prepare for what is coming...and you giving this information is really good...I have been seeing people doing prepping....I myself am too tired right now physically.....but no Chick, I would've be a cryer...lol...I've lived this way long ago...I'm sure that if something comes fast...we will make it.....Thanks Chick..

Very good advice! I'm always shocked that the masses don't realise what's going on in this world! It's going to be a rude awakening. We have a well in the little river, but it usually dries up in the summer. Last year we had an excavator dig a deep hole, 6 by 5 metres and 3 metres deep. We don't have the money to build a cistern this year, but as the soil here is mainly clay, it holds about 30 cubic metres of water throughout the summer. We had to buy new batteries for our solar system because the others were destroyed by the fire. Even if we can't build the cistern, we will make do with the water. We have water filters, and if we can't get new ones, we will build our own with activated carbon. We also had to buy a new solar system. I can imagine that food prices will rise enormously next year. All the disasters, droughts, floods and fires have destroyed crops and the conflicts are also affecting food supplies and crude oil prices. I will be preparing my garden for spring this winter. I had a small garden after the fire, but we have built a chicken coop and a chicken run and many other things to prepare for the near future. Now is the time to get ready!

I’d say, generally, fire is the biggest threat to Maine. We have no stewardship of most of the forest. A hot breath could set it off. Tornadoes have happened in the county a lot. Other than that, our people are so out of shape and generally ignorant of the skills and knowledge needed to survive without systemic support. We have a strong core of highly capable people who bust ass all day every day. We have a plethora of lazy stoners and pill heads who do nothing but drink energy drinks, eat ebt food, and do petty crimes. Police are average 45 minutes to two hours away now, when everything is functioning. The biggest threat will be thieves and hungry people. Hazmats and laziness a close second. I’m glad I have Mexican friends, they understand reality.

2nd year after human compost is added the soil is DYNAMITE! Personally I won't use it the first year for root crops. But our urine and waste both have valuable uses unknown to modern society. I am a new subscriber and I am very impressed with your knowledge and your CANDID representation of off grid living. Glad I found you.

In Bermuda, the stepped limestone roofs help with water collection that goes to a cistern beneath the houses. I think if I remember correctly the limestone has some anti bacterial properties. I was just wondering if there is a way to use that technology in some format here in conjunction with a rain collection system for each home.

I’m disabled Navy veteran I lived off grid for many years before off grid was even a popular term. One thing I learned overthinking any situation can lead to confusion being overprepared can invite unwanted guests. I put my trust in God and thank him for each day and I’m still here 69. 70 in April 🎉🎉🎉✌️

Being off grid for years I have learned this information to be real. I keep telling people but they don't listen to me. Learning to use reusable items saves on trash, Learning about Composting toilets, Learning about water conservation and grey water use is just as important as food. Shelter, water and food are as important as any way to protect yourself. Also Learning herbal remedies, foraging and food storage without refrigeration or freezers. Collecting actual books for Learning, games/hobbies for mental health and knowledge of skills will get ya through.

I've been using the Humanure Composting System ever since I moved into my off-grid cabin 10 years ago. I have 2 compost bins set up to handle it, one sits and cures for at least a year, while filling the other one (and yes, the finished compost is used in my vegetable garden). The urine is collected and diluted approximately 10:1 and is also used in my garden, nothing goes to waste. I use rain collection as my main source of water, but during a drought, I can draw water from a pond that is about half a mile from my cabin that I can haul in an IBC tote and fill my containers. The rainwater that I consume, drinking and cooking, is filtered through my Berkey system, but I also have a distiller that is used for any water that I do not trust. My parents lived through the Great Depression and met after my father returned from WW II, they made sure I learned all the skills that was needed to survive the harshest lifestyles. At 72 years old, I still grow a good portion of my vegetables, hunt and trap for meat, and forage the surrounding woodland for wild edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms.

Yes, water! You have got to have backups to the backups to the backups on water! We are on a community well. We barely lost power at our house, maybe 6 hrs plus short random outages. Some of our neighbors were out for 5 days. The community well pump was on that same power line. One of the neighbors who has the generator for the well & takes care of it also had power so he didn't add 2 & 2 about the well pump not getting power (understandably). For 3 days he didn't know. Once my husband brought it to the guys attention there was only 6" of water left in the cysterns. He got it running. Then the generator failed, so he hooked up his own generator. The power came back on a couple days later. Then 3 days later a power pole snapped & the same neighbors as before & the well had no power again for 2 days. We didn't need it, but we had plenty of water on hand the entire time, thank God, and between us & the same neighbor we had plenty of fuel for the wells generator for the time we needed it. But had we needed it as long as some, with gas hard to find at first it could have been bad. We know a couple ways to collect rain water, like most do. The problem with that backup is it has hardly rained here since Helene. Not enough to fill a rain barrel and it's been nearly a month since Helene. We don't like to soley relying on anything that requires fuel from an outside source (gas, propane, etc.), just wood and this event has reassured us to why we don't. We would have been SOL & been lugging water up the mountain from about 1 mile down if we were like some people & still without power. Technically, we have a well, but it's dead. We looked into getting it up and running about a yr ago, but then I got sick & it fell by the way side. I'm kind of glad because we were going to go with an electric pump. I think I want to see about a hand pump well. I think the guy said we could but people have issues with them. IDK what those were but will find out now!

A trick I learned long ago was how to syphon water from any stream ,for that though you need a long narrow hose to get the water down hill to where you can use it. I use water syphoned from a natural spring 300m to a fish pond, not much pressure but it works. Enough to collect water to boil up for dishes or body washes..its still effort though.

With all the "natural" disasters happening, people need to consider their water even if they think they have it all figure out. Even if one of these disasters don't affect them directly. I have a spring well that has amazing water but of course the pump is electric so I have a solar generator designated for the pump and also a hand pump in my basement that pulls the water through the filtering system. When I first bought this land and house, it had sat empty for many years. I didn't know about the water. My county offers water testing but I didn't know what they would find and I sure as heck didn't want them finding something they didn't like and then come in here telling me what I have to do. So, I sent it to an independent lab. It came back with wonderful results. But, now I have to keep an eye on it because I'm just south of the flooding in Western NC. Not only do I have to consider all the septic tanks but multiple plastics factories that got destroyed. They use powered pfcs. All that got into the rivers. Also, they found nuclear waste barrels that somehow managed to float up stream 200 miles and never got caught up on anything. Eventually, all that will make its way south. Hopefully there is enough filtering done by nature between there and here. I will have to periodically get the water tested but definitely not by county or state labs. I've spoken with my neighbors to make sure if they test their water not to have it done by the county because if something is found, they will be in here in a NY minute with the epa. If there are problems the neighbors and I all agree we would much rather deal with it ourselves considering the govt has a habit of taking people's land because they decided something in the water or soil doesn't look right to them. My sons are working on a reverse osmosis system, but that would probably only supply enough for drinking, and I have animals to think about and their eggs and milk. No one wants a crazy cow running around with radioactive plastic milk.
