After I seen you hit, well you hit the ball like I do big bad and nasty. Keep in mind that running all around hitting inside out with the forehand all the time will get you more tired as that is a physically demanding shot to do. It will tire you out quickly within hours in the match. You want to use that sparingly so you don't get too tired. You have a normal backhand slice that drops the ball in about 4-6 metres inside of the baseline a little past the service line which is still good, but it sometimes also pops the ball up high in the air so I think you are missing that big deep low flat penetrating slice drive that drops the ball in just only a few feet to a couple of metres inside of the baseline that digs up into people's legs and shoelaces and pushes them backwards on the baseline because of the depth and the pace and the skid.. Because I do that all the time to the club players and they hate that type of low deep skidding ball that goes more deeper into the court. Because I do that with pace. Swing with no brakes with that buggy whip forehand, well I do like your idea because i do the same as what you're doing swing with no brakes on but I only do that if the ball keeps clicking in the court. When it comes to the serve I have no brakes if the ball is clicking in but i do put on the brakes if the ball starts missing.

Lucas uses the Nadal buggy whip forehand. That's why hes dangerous. He hits the forehand with tight spin with like I do that's why he hits those big crosscourts. The club players don't like those big fast crosscourts.

WoW! This was the first player (that I recall) that had several love service games against, Hermont. *Lucas is the real deal.* You can tell he's not in prime shape, (would love to see that version of him) but none the less, he gave Hermont a run for his money! A re-match between these 2 is a definite *MUST!* Looking forward to it!!!

Lucas is a big hitter of the ball. So its nothing new for me to see a power display from him for I do this same stuff down at my club to blast all the club players. Lucas uses the swing backhand. I use both the swing backhand and also the push backhand that Freedman been teaching his players to use. When it comes to the slices I like to keep the ball down low in the court rather than pop the ball up high in the air. As I know what happens if you pop the ball up high in the air on your slice, and it falls weak and short in the court, someone always comes along and crushes it. That's why I don't like sending up slow high floaters when it comes to slices on both wings.. Lucas don't have that big slice that stay always down low in the court for his backhand slice sometimes does unfortunately pops the ball up high and weak in the air or it winds up going the wrong direction sailing up and out of the court into the back fence. So hes not as solid on the slice as he is on his forehand. But he is strong on that reverse forehand. hes dangerous on that forehand. He does have some difficulty dumping the serves returns down into the net making mistakes because of trying to take full swings at the serve when he don't always have enough time to do the full swings so he gets jammed and cramped up with the ball as he is a big guy and takes a little bit longer for him to get his body out of the way of the incoming ball... This is why i use that little push drive instead when i don't have enough time to do a full swing whether its fast groundstrokes or fast serves. That's why i made the switch to use the push drive instead for the serves and approach shots. Hes just your normal big power server, sometimes his serve works and blasts all in and hes deadly on the court and othertimes it dumps all down into the net or misses the lines. So the serve is not fully tuned in yet probably due to being a little bit rusty.But still a dangerous opponent to face.

@@germanslice i thought you were hermont reading this, made it sound like you were playing him
@germanslice
@germanslice Жыл бұрын
@@samsterCS It looks like to me that Lucas was going for broke on some of those balls not sure if hes hitting at 80% or is going for max power in everything in some of these balls that hes crushing. Kareu tells us to stick to 70-80% power but if you are hitting at near max power and are missing the court, and you are down in points then its best to drop the power level down to 70-80 power at match speed level (serving and groundstrokes), but if you are smacking them in at your max level and they are clicking in at 100+ mph then by all means we don't fix what is working but when that wave ends and the ball starts going long then its time to go back to match speed. I think Lucas may have been trying to go for broke sometimes when hes behind in points. And that is a bit risky to do.

Luca's game reminds me of my own. As a fairly big guy (6'2, 235lb), I can say that while producing amazing winners, it's hard to maintain consistency in the long run. Lucas, being a big hitter, often gives away free points with balls stuck in the net or going too long. It's more of an impulsive game than a calculated one, relying on feeling rather than technique. His backhand could also use some work. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this match. Amazing forehand, powerful serve, impressive slides, and great overall performance. Hermont as always made great use of the court, knew he was overpowered but manged to use it to his advantage! Great match!!

At first I was like “why hermont been using slices on both sides too often?” Then i realized he was exploiting Lucas’ struggle to lower his stance to hit the ball well and lift it up the net. Very clever for Hermont. On the other hand Lucas was a really strong player, you can clearly see he must’ve had higher level when he was a bit younger. Hes serving about 120-130 mph, same as I do. Every one who has been taught the power serve can serve the ball with power like that... I was taught how to this type of serving by a national coach as this is taught in the tennis academies. The power serve usually takes a second or so to reach down to the opponent so its pretty fast and you don't have much time to react.. Its done with pronation that's what gives the ball that zip. Lucas has definitely got height advantage here so he doesn't have to focus so much on reaching up to the ball like the more shorter guys have to do in order to to hit it because hes already got the long reach with those arms because hes taller..So its a bit easier for him.

If the ball Is Hard and Crisp, not Soft or Wet or Damp or Fluffy.... @@germanslice Really..? Even a second sounds too long to me. I can react in 0.24 (measured) and sometimes I can't get my racket round quick enough and I shank the return and thats with no takeback just a block. @@spooky1304 I said a second of time OR less than a second of time. Or half a second on a good day. Man, after that first game I thought Hermont had no chance of winning! If Lucas was in great shape, I think Hermont would certainly have lost. Lucas is no UTR10 judging just by his strokes, but add in the fitness factor and I can see it. Lucas' backhand was a bit shaky at times, but overall was still pretty effective. I think Lucas lost mainly because he was taking more chances and couldn't quite sustain the excellent start, but kudos to Hermont for hanging in there and running down all the shots he did to wear Lucas down! Lucas started off super well, making incredible winners, breaking Hermont in the first few games. Then, his level of play began to decline; he began to make a lot more errors. This is all because of the mental game of tennis. Patrick Mouratoglou, one of the world's most renowned tennis coaches, told a story of him playing golf for the first time as an adult. Out on the course, in the first hole of his lifetime, he made par. In his mind, he thought, "Ah, this sport must be so easy." From that moment on, he expected himself to make par. After the first hole, he never made par again; he always hit above par. Upon reflections, he realized that having no expectation for himself made him play better, and once the expectation was set (after the first hole) of making par for the rest of the 17 holes on the course, he played much worse. It is expectations that drag us down mentally. Lucas, being out of competitive matches for so long, had absolutely no expectations for himself. After the first few games, only after the expectation was set for him to beat Hermont easily, he began to play worse. The stories are identical. So once again, I repeat, expectations drag us down in the mental game of any sport.

Really interesting video (thanks Winston). Lucas knows himself and his game better than anyone, so whatever he says, is more than likely right. He came out hard, but looked to be flagging from around the middle of the set onwards. Hermont just had to survive the heavy artillery in the beginning, and then was able to get back into it through a combination of his own consistency, and Lucas dropping his level. Winston, just a small point for you; I've said this to you before, and I think this video is a good example; when you have, and GO FOR, a big serve, it can win you a lot of points. You're a tall enough guy, so try training your first serve, and actually train to GO for it. Whether you decide to hit big on the second serve or not is a different discussion, but you should at least get that weapon in your toolkit.
