What a peaceful, and relaxing afternoon. How fortunate you are to live in such a beautiful environ and close to the Spokane River. PS:, a little tip: A large toenail clipper set makes a cleaner and safer line cutter than a folding knife. Tie one with a line to your fish bag or vest, and you will always have it handy when fishin'.

that "wild" you caught was actually most likely a hatchery that was miss-clipped. The beat up dorsal fin is a tell tale sign it came from a hatchery. happens when they rub against the concrete pens they live in, still have to release them i believe but none the less a great video as always. keep doing your thing my man!

Nice job, great day with a friend n good food. I'm retired and fish with powerbait alot. One of the things I see people do is having their fishing rod almost straight up in the rod holder. I always have my rod at 45 degrees or less. When your rod is pointing practically straight up it outs an extreme angle on the line going through the barrel weight. The fish feel that. Also once I cast out I reel in 2 to 4 turns every few minutes. I swear the trout just stare at it and by moving it I get strikes within 30 seconds to 1 minute. Recently I was fishing from shore on lake Roosevelt by hunters. There was 16 people there all with their rods high in the air and never realing in. Those 16 people caught 2 trout and I limited using the same gear. It was a slow day. I also lost 2 fish that day. Fluorocarbon leaders are the ticket, fish can't see it.

In the winter during the daylight the water temps are warmer along the edge in the shallows because of the sunlight. At nighttime the edges cool faster so the fish move back to deeper water. Hope this helps!

I have found with that power bait if I don't expose the hook tip a little bit I tend to lose them more but I am usually using a single hook. Think I'll try a treble next time! When you’re in doubt that there’s a fish on the line, pick up the rod, hold it and reel in the slack. Once you do that, you’ll be able to tell whether you have a fish or not because the fish will either take off with your bait or you will be able to tell that it’s only the water current that’s taking your lure. One last advice: I notice your hesitancy. Don’t think twice about it. Just reel and do a sweeping hookset. If there’s nothing on the line, just throw it back out there. The fish aren’t going anywhere and you’re less likely to lose fish this way. Hope this helps!

Tell your buddy it's not lazy fishing it efficient fishing especially when you're a harvester and how you feed your family. I would love for him to say that to all the Cambodian old men that fish the lakes over by me that they are lazy, when their mission is to feed their families.
@NWoutdoorsadventures

Might be efficient, but its still lazy fishing . No one stated anything regarding providing for your family. That is exactly what we try and do.
@pnwtroutslayer253
@pnwtroutslayer253 Жыл бұрын
@@NWoutdoorsadventures I stated "providing for a family". But to say it's lazy fishing, then anything you use to attract the fish is lazy fishing, unless your jumping in the water and try grabbing them with your hands. I don't see anything about it that is lazy, your still having to figure out leader length, bait color or type, is they are out far from shore or if they are near. your still putting in that work.

Interesting! In 50+ years of fishing I have never seen or heard of anyone scaling a rainbow trout.
@willong1000
@willong1000 11 ай бұрын
Was common practice for my father in the 1950s and early 1960s to scale trout. A popular folding knife of the era that was specifically marketed as a "fisherman's" knife featured one thin blade with a cutting edge, the other was toothed for use as a scaling tool. I don't know if my Dad's practice was a carryover from his youth in PA where he caught mostly Bass and pan-fish, or if there was some other reason he did that. I do remember that we always fried our trout and ate the skin. I can't recall ever seeing my father fillet a fish. By the time we fished some streams in Olympic National Park in the 1970s, Dad no longer bothered scaling his trout.

There is very little food for the fish in the winter time so they are cruising the shoreline looking for things that have fallen or been blown into the water. They probably do not look at it that way, they just know that is where the food is.
