I’m so proud of you, Jason - look at you having favourites and knowing the names of plants 👏🏼, also thank you for slowing down Janey and pointing out the plants she would have missed 😂. Janey, it’s really awesome to see your vision coming to life. Love how you both seem to be enjoying this journey together.

Great tour, enjoy Jason’s input. If you don’t like the look of the dead foliage on your Russian Sage and hardy hibiscus during the winter, you can cut them back without harming the plant. I’m in zone 5 (we often get -20 temps, so a good 50 degrees colder than you), I cut mine back in the fall and they come back reliably.

@ 🤷🏻‍♀️I do sometimes leave a few inches of the hibiscus so I remember where they’re at come spring. I tend to move plants around a lot so remembering isn’t always easy😁. The russian Sage I use my hedge trimmers and cut it as close to the ground as I can, but I don’t know if you can kill Russian sage. Ive tried and it seems like it multiplies instead.

It’s so fun to see how different plants behave on different sides in the country. In California, it’s awesome to see begonias still going. Here in Louisiana, begonias usually will die down in the winter, however our petunias are winter flowers. We are a very humid zone 9. I also cannot get verbena to do well for me.

Have you thought about limbing up and tightening the shape of your citrus and fig trees think they would looks great with a good structural pruning. To allow the beauty of the trunks show a little more, and so you can see what’s planted near them a little bit better think a lot of things get lost under the unruly canopies.

Hi Janey and Jason, how about Little Bunny fountain grass for your lavender area. It is a 10-12” high grass which will fit with the scale of your area that the lavender river is in. You can’t have a grass that grows as full as some or it will be off scale. I love the Little Bunny!

We we we 😉 I love to hear you say “we.” I’m sure it’s a hard transition since you’ve been used to doing it all yourself for so long but since Jason left his job to do DPWR with you full time (which is super cool) it’s nice to hear you say “we” and “our” garden instead of “my” even if he isn’t behind the camera. Not a criticism at all. Just a happy observation with understanding that it’s still a new thing and a paradigm shift. You’re better together!

I think the more dusty colored plants look so good and really pop against a black fence or black mulch, but when they’re in a lighter colored environment they can kind of look dead from afar, which makes it hard to find the right place for them. Can’t wait to see what you plant in the yarrow’s place! 😊

Loved seeing your December garden! I believe lemon coral sedum is the trademark name for sedum mexicanum. It’s not patented, and can be propagated. Erin the impatient gardener has a great video where she talks about propagating sedum mexicanum on camera and sneaks in some educational content about patents (can’t be propagated) and trademarks.

According to AI, “De La Mina Verbena", has a lightly scented, citrusy aroma with a hint of floral notes, often described as a delicate lavender-like fragrance due to its purple blooms; the scent is considered "clean" and refreshing, similar to the typical verbena scent with a subtle herbal undertone. My favorite type of scents are subtle, citrusy, clean and herbal. Now I want a candle 💕😂
