Thanks for another great video. I've camped at that site several times over the years, but I've never seen it in winter, and so really enjoyed seeing it in your tour. Great night photos too. Very well done! I can't be sure, but some of those bear prints looked more like Yeti to me. The NH ones are smaller than their Himalayan cousins, and quite rare. Congrats on the sighting! ;-)

@@RachelWhelton In Memoriam, by Alfred Lord Tennyson Nature teases us with music in her tone and we embraced it as natural good. Her work seems so fair and splendid to the eyes only half revealed and half concealed. Nature brings to life and brings to death. Creation’s final law is ‘nature is red in tooth and claw.’ We battle against nature’s monsters to protect against our fragility, futility and fatality. Seems dark. But we hope for the best and are willing to challenge life’s adversity with fortitude. Best wishes!

Seeing bear tracks is both scary and thrilling at the same time……bears should be going into hibernation really soon if not already there ….

I am still waiting to put out suet for the birds. Winter is a bit slow in arriving this year. That bear must have been having a nice drink of water and looking at the new snow.

Another great adventure Rachel! You do such an amazing job with your videos and presentation! Your confidence is growing with each outing! I wanted to ask about the stove you’re using. I need to get one that’s good for low temperatures like you’re experiencing. Could you share what stove it is? Thanks in advance and looking forward to your next video! Take care!

Thanks. MSR WindPro 2. You can view the manual for this on the MSR website. So far I like it but I feel I am doing something slightly wrong because the can bubbles a bit of fuel out when I attach it (any can) even though the flame adjuster is tightly OFF. I am re-reading the manual and I might ask MSR about this. Other than that it is good because it works in cold.

It's always amazing to see how Wintry it can be in the mountains, but still so mild in the southern part of the state. We likely won't be able to make it up for our usual Winter hikes in the Whites this Winter because of an injured pup. I'll be living vicariously through you. Nice video!
@RachelWhelton
@RachelWhelton Жыл бұрын
Best wishes to the pup! It's true about the weather, as the rain is pounding down this evening here in the Exeter area. I feel like I am living two lives because I keep popping up to the white snow each week, then back down to the fall appearance of my town.

I finally found some Western Mountaineering knee high snow camp booties on sale and can't wait to wear them. Certainly they will appear in an upcoming video as soon as there is more snow in the situation.

This is a Slingfin tent. They seem to be a cool company. I just ordered the summer body for this same tent which will let me swap out certain parts and use it in the summer too!

All good. What’s your thoughts of carrying a frame pack instead of internal frame? I’ve been looking at your tent brand … what made you decide on this tent? Kind regards New Brunswick Canada 🇨🇦
@RachelWhelton
@RachelWhelton Ай бұрын
Hello Canada! The full frame pack was my husband's idea and I was quite skeptical. But I fell in love with my sleeping bag (Western Mountaineering) and that required a larger volume capacity than any of my old backpacks offered. The external frame pack weighs 6 pounds but it makes carrying loads easier than any other bag I've tried (not that I'm an expert whatsoever). I can hardly pick up the pack full of gear but somehow, once on my back and adjusted, I can walk with it. In summer, however, I like the ultralight pack (and my summer sleeping bag fits into it). The tent is a total splurge and I don't think I needed it to do this level of camping (but I didn't know what conditions I would face during winter outings). It's a SlingFin and I really love it because it has become my little home. SlingFin is a cool company and I feel proud to have one of their tents.
