Winter Chinook King Salmon fishing Date and Prawning BC Spots. Beautiful British Columbia.

Today, we explore a beautiful winters day in Westcoast British Columbia. Winter Chinook salmon fishing, prawning and crabbing. The day turned out to be one of the best winter fishing to date!
Fishing methods
Trolling for Winter Chinook, by way of downriggers with 12 to 15 pound weights. Todays strike zone was 150 to 230 feet below surface. Exercising the ball weight down to the very bottom and lifting/maintaining bottom 10 feet has yielded best results. Using a UV flashlight on anything glow; in my opinion made the difference today.
Prawning methods
We dropped 2 sets of traps (2 in each set, 4 traps total) and yielded a 250 limit! (125 per lisence). I found it helpful to use a 2 buoy system (visible from a distance and easy to pick out of the water upon retrieval). The bait combo proven to be effective is a mix of Uncle Freds prawning/crabbing pellets, Carlyle cat food and Procure crab/prawning oil. Video on how I prepare my bait (See link below).
Crabbing methods
We set our traps in 60 ft of water and had chicken back/bones as bait. Although we didn't yield a catch this day; This combo has worked well for us in the past. As the saying goes (Some days you get em' some days you don't😅).

what kinda boat you got? looking at these legend boats too. whats ideal size for getting out in the sound ??

I have an 18ft legend xcalibur. My boat is considered small for ocean fishing. So I choose the days when I go out. If I was to get another boat I'd go a minimum 21ft or bigger. Some say aluminum boats coating isn't best for ocean aswell so they opt out to fiberglass. Not an expert just passing on the info I know. Hope that helps, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Hi is chinook only in Salt water or can we fish them in fraser river as well ?

U can certainly fish Fraser tidal or non tidal for them. As long as it's open then it's totally do able! After all they all have to return one day.
