From mountains in Arizona - We have eucalyptus wood. It's the hardest wood West of the Mississippi. Absolutely fantastic wood for heating. No ash. No smoke. HOT heat. Love it!

That works on very light and very little snow. Over 4" and it simply can't beat a proper snowblower. We'll average 6-10FEET of snow per season. With multiple feet in single overnight accumulations.

Our winter here in Tennessee started out mild as well. Last night our coldest temps in 40 years we got 8 inches of snow alot for Southern Tennessee. Looking forward to the live

Also, you can have multiple inverters on one batt bank so you could hook up a solark or eg4 18k as a redundancy that also comes with more mppt's. Use a bypass to your home ac when and if your other two go down. The DC side gets extra strong and you have backup ac when you need it.

Put a light in the coop on a timer to give the chickens 14 hours of light a day and they will keep laying all winter.

Love these updates with little nuggets of info. I just got an old lister diesel generator. It works ok but going to strip it clean and grease everything and replace seals and filter. These proper old ones are great theres so few parts you dont have to be a mechanic to give it a go. Its less efficient but old enough it can run on anything so plan is used veg oil and clean it using pork gelatine. So quick and easy. Thanks to robert murray smith. a uk clever clogs that puts out a ton of content on different ways to generate power, heat etc. Well worth a look to anyone interested or living off grid.

Newer model machines need AT LEAST a minute of turning key (glow plug) on and off and immediately back on. Older machines have a glow plug button that can be held for a minute or two when it's wicked cold like this

You mentioned in another video that you were planning on adding a 4th solar array, what if when you did made two independent systems to power your house. That would mean dividing your battery bank into two . So you would have two solar arrays, two solar charge controllers, one inverter, and half the total battery rack as one independent system and you would have the same components on a second system so that if one inverter goes down or another component you still have the other independent system to power your home until the other system is repaired? In the US Larch and Douglas Fir are sold as one in the same as their properties are nearly identical.

Wise choice choosing that Schneider Electric, Low Frequency, transformer based inverter charger. It will produce a much, much high surge capacity and a far longer life expectancy than those Cheap Chinese made, lightweight, high frequency, transformerless, inverter chargers that everyone else is selling.

Dude, you need a woodshed. A simple wooden building, perhaps made from planks or even better, logs. You can have gaps between the planks so air circulates in the building and wood dries well. Also if you live self-sufficient, you need a brick or stone baking oven in the centre of your home to serve during the winter as a backup or main (free) heat source and capacitor and for cooking as well. Google a typical finnish baking oven and you will understand. It's a large oven that stores heat in the stones/bricks. Must have imo since wood grows itself and you can create the fuel yourself. By rotting your firewood outside in some shady shelters is dumb and lazy. The wood loses its energy potential and it's just terrible to pick it from under the snow rather than from a dry woodshed. Keep up the good work!

Great video Curtis, I was wondering what fuel type you are using for your generator and what model generator? I saw an old video where you where reducing EMF radiation for your old house, I was wondering why use a Tesla as they also emit EMF?
@offgridcurtisstone
@offgridcurtisstone Жыл бұрын
It's a Yanmmar and it's diesel. The Tesla emits less radiation than any downtown of any city. Considering that we don't spend days in the car, it's nothing we're concerned about. EMF exposure is most dangerous over sustained periods of time. We have so little up here in the mountains that overall, we encounter little to no EMF compared to living in a city.

i can't understand why nobody using steam engine to power the electric generator , especially while you have to burn fuel to heat up your house ,,, steam power is the most efficient
