I was tickled with your comment of how farmers constantly watch the weather. Now I'm not a farmer, per se, but I garden and have goats. My children teased me for years about having a weather obsession, but it is important to know, I think :) Your ladies look just so beautifully healthy. Sending every good wish your way!

A garden and goats is pretty darned close to being a farmer… just sayin’!

One year ago yesterday we had our first snow of 2021 in the Welsh marches - it was only light dusting. Today, while its not warm enough to wear my speedos, I have got some laundry out to dry and its "warm" and sunny. i don't envy you your snow! Stay warm.

Love all your videos! This one reminded me of when I was growing up and made forts in the hay bales, what great fun that was. Good luck with all that you are doing!

Beautiful! My kids envy your snow cuz you know kids. Lol calves are growing beautifully and all that hay work paid off. I know you had to buy some but I know you are glad you took in a lot of hay.

Thanks for this great update. The roof rake was an excellent and timely purchase. Cattle look like they're doing well. Love seeing the little ones kicking up their heels in the snow. Hope you had a wonderful THANKSGIVING. The barn backlot looks very squared away. Stay well folks.

I love your reports. Thanks for sharing. It’s been interesting weather here on our tiny homestead in Western North Carolina. We’ve had no snow, but it’s been unseasonably cold. We are devoting a large portion of our resources and energy to building a cabin where the old folks will live. These old folks are proud of the way you folks have prepared for winter. I assume you will have to buy more hay. I hope you find adequate supply.
@vnthomas162 жыл бұрын
We may need to buy a little more. We’ll see. We’re in a much better spot than last year with the drought and it’s dismal hay production. Thanks for watching!

Great video love your farm and your content. As a Southern Boy it takes me a few days to get get climatized to the very cold and snow, you can keep it. I am hoping to get a A2/A2 heifer calf early next spring. We have a local diary that culls some bottle babies every year a couple days after birth. His whole herd is tested as A2/A2, says he. I have no infrastructure for cows on the Homestead yet. Working on it.

Good luck! We started out with just a shelterlogic structure for our heifers. It worked well while we were smaller. Thanks for watching!

Nice to see all is well at Clover Mountain Dairy. Any big plans for next year on the farm?

The big plans taking our time for a while is the Columbia Community Creamery project!

Your cows are looking good. How many head are you milking? How are you coming on the piping in the milk parlor? The farm is looking great. Have a nice day moving snow and thanks for the video.
@vnthomas162 жыл бұрын
The pipeline is coming along. All the stainless piping is installed. I need to finish up the vacuum piping and do the electrical and it will be good to go! Haven’t felt much urgency to get it done this season with only 3 cows milking, but with the herd bred for next season, we’ll definitely want the pipeline functioning then! Thanks for watching!

I’d love for a nice Chinook to blow through here and melt all the snow…
@natevanlandingham19452 жыл бұрын
Does the snow melt/slide off the upper peak on its own. It looks like it at least did for this video? When in the depths of winter (if it doesn't melt)do you walk on the lower portion to clear the upper first or after lower is cleared?
@vnthomas162 жыл бұрын
Yes, the snow slides freely from the upper section. In fact, the entire west side of the barn (which gets a little more sun) tends to clear itself entirely. It’s usually only the east side that we have to clear snow from the lower section. All the rest of our farm buildings clear their own snow from the roof no problem!

So you guys might want to check up on through your vet a friend of mine milks over here and where we live he had one aborted a calf and didn't ever breed back and I think the vet said ears if they abort a calf there's something wrong with the heifer
@vnthomas162 жыл бұрын
Our heifer that aborted last year was actually the first to breed back! Luckily we have very good large animal vets around us. Thanks for watching!
