I would imagine that the majority of people who buy milk never think, possibly, that there is anything more to it than milking cows.

Dry off is exciting time when you know there will be beautiful calves arriving in the spring to start the cycle again, not to mention a well earned rest from milking chores! 🥛🧀 great video-always learn something - Have a blessed day🌹

I have a book from the 1950s called the Stockmans Handbook, it was my Dad's. Lots of good stuff in it. Stay safe out there.
@vnthomas16 Жыл бұрын
It’s gone through many editions, and is still available today, but I’d probably put more “stock” in the older ones… pun intended!

It’s more like a normal winter… just started a bit earlier then we’re used to.

What that old book said about cows being with people who like them is very true. The cows that get mastitis always tend to be the PITA hard to work with (through no fault of their own) that get less attention/care. Self perpetuating cycle unless you take the time to treat and heal them properly.
@vnthomas16 Жыл бұрын
We work for the cows… That’s why they’re “bossies”!

It’s a Hearthstone soap stone stove. We really like it!

Virginia do you ever treat directly into the udder as some dairy farmers do? One I watched recently injected the udders for dry off.
@vnthomas16 Жыл бұрын
We’ve never injected anything into an udder. Just doesn’t seem right to us.

Enjoy the downtime from milking. Is Stacy going to get the pipeline finished before calves are born? I know he was looking for a part.
