I wish we had snow to enjoy this but I can do without the ice. I workout at the gym 4 days a week and can pretty much walk and hike most days throughout the winter months.

I grew up in Upper Michigan with A LOT of lake-affect snow. So, I enjoy these winter activities. But I'm glad to be living further south as I'm getting older. When do you plan to start your CT hike? You may be able to enjoy a few snow fields then.

@@DavidonEarth I’m hitting Waterton Canyon on July 16. I know there was some large snowfields up around Lake Ann Pass last year with that heavy snowfall. My plan is to take the Collegiate West.

@@tangenttrails excellent start time! When I hiked the CT, I started on 15 July. West is a great route - of course, you know to watch the weather while you're above treeline for those 17ish miles. Just stay to the left as you approach the cornice on Lake Ann Pass - normally there's a good trench to follow by then - no biggie. But, as you say - depends on snow pack levels. Exciting!

Hey Dean. I've put links in the show notes. Love my military issue mukluk boots - they are 40 years old and still great in cold weather! The Tubbs snowshoes here are no longer available - but they do have similar versions (not quite as long as these). But, unless a person is getting into deep snow, these long versions aren't necessary. My Marmot down mittens are fantastic! I've used these up on 14k foot ridgelines in crazy winds. The pants are pricey but I'll have them the rest of my life - Pfall Raven has an excellent warranty and the local shop even repaired mine free after I sliced them open with my axe (no worries, my leg is fine... haha).
